So, they finally announced some more main parts for the next Batman film. (Casting spoilers, obviously. Not that they really imply anything about what the plot will be)

And naturally, comics fandom is being very... comics fandom about this. Of course. I'm currently choosing to remain quiet on the matter until I see some footage - after all, I remember a lot of the stuff being said about Heath Ledger back in the day. Plus you can't judge a story until you know what happens in it.

But at least things are moving on in that production.

And for the SuzaLulu crowd on my flist, which seems to have been rather active as of late, I found this rather good AMV of the two. (It's ambiguous, so could just be seen as a tribute to their complicated friendship, if you don't ship that way.) Just ignore some of the comments, that's my advice.

Also, Note To Self: It doesn't matter how much you feel the need for some fresh fruit in your diet, how much you like nectarines, or how much they are on special at the supermarket. After buying a carton and eating them for two weeks straight, you will get sick of nectarines.

I love Batman, and I'm extremely excited for the movie! As far as I can tell, both casting decisions were fine. Fans just like to get anal whenever something happens that isn't exactly how they imagined it. I like to think I'm not that bad, but I probably do this occasionally as well.

The main criticisms I've seen are "Anne Hathaway is too sweet/innocent to be the badass anti-hero Catwoman" and "Tom Hardy doesn't look anything like Bane, who is Hispanic." With some bonus whining about Bane's character in general.

Good writing and acting can deal with a lot of that, though the English dude playing a Hispanic character is a bit more of an eyebrow raiser.

I personally think Anne Hathaway can handle being badass. Just because she's never been in such a role before doesn't mean she's incapable of it. The Bane thing I can understand. I didn't know that Bane was Hispanic, so it doesn't matter to me, but I do think that it's better when the director pays attention to nationalities. It can be important to the story. However, I trust Christopher Nolan to know what he's doing. Hopefully he won't end up like M Night Shyamalan.

From what I've read, she's done some edgier independent films, so she probably can handle it; this is just something more mainstream.

Bane is Hispanic, but he is also sometimes written as a bad Hispanic stereotype, so on one hand it's whitewashing, but it might be whitewashing to avoid an uncomfortable cliche. I'll admit it made me raise an eyebrow, though.
