The last time I will ever get to say that. *sobs* So much for working on my assignment
So, about that Ashes to Ashes big finale.

Take a look at the Lawman, beating up the wrong guy )

I'm looking forward to what the fanvidders do with this (these?) now. Normally I'd be on the lookout for fic - and I definitely still am - but Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes wouldn't be the same without the music.
Look what you have done, Arakawa! You've made me commit fic - well, drabble - for the first time in four years. I hope you are proud of yourself.

Incidentally, this was written on the tram into Uni. Please forgive any incoherence.

Knowledge )

And now to crosspost to the relevent comms.
So, who else started crying over FMA chapter 107.

I just... yeah.

One more chapter to go. Only one more chapter of FMA left...

This is the second last time I will ever get to say that. *sob*
...Suddenly having two new icon spaces isn't really a good reason to get a new icon just because it makes me laugh uncontrollably, is it?

Also, I totally called it in other post about FMA scanlations. They don't make things better at all. ;_;

Spoilers in this cut! )

Incidentally, my suspicion that FMA is going to end with 108 chapters is increasing. Because, well, this has to be the darkest hour before the dawn.

On a lighter FMA related note, there is this post, for all your inappropriately lulzy greeting card needs. (There are chapter 104 spoilers in the comments, though).

And the promo trailer for the FMA:B dub. Which starts in the US on Valentine's Day.

And, now for something completely different: A meme I yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] ypaladinofchaos.

Leave a comment saying, "COMMENT" and I will give you five words I associate with you. Then post about what they mean to you, along with this, at your journal.

My answers are: Behind the cut )
So, today the FMA fandom got a new episode, with an all new OP and ED, and a new scanlated chapter. Damn, it's good to be us.

Firstly, ZOMG CHECK OUT THE NEW OP AND ED HERE! I think I love them both ♥ and I definitely need those full songs.

But yes, lovely shiny awesome OP and ED, though there are screencaps and spoilers for the episode in that link. (From what I could tell the episode wasn't the greatest, but next week, eeee Hoho backstory time!)

I also have other thoughts on the OP and ED, which are both thematically kind of similar, and involve spoilers for those who haven't read the next arc in the manga:

Vague manga spoilers, ahoy! )

As for chapter 103 of the manga, it was a bit less HOLY SHIT FMA than the last few. But that just meant that it didn't end on an excruciatingly painful cliffhanger like the last few did. It did move a number of plot points forward and there was a lot of awesome (and a few amusing moments), both for our main characters and for the civilians, but slightly less ARGH HOW COULD YOU END IT THERE than last time.

And I was amused at the way Ed asked a whole bunch of the questions fandom has been stuck on for the last month. Oh Arakawa, you either planned this out incredibly well, or you hang out online reading the fan reactions. Or both!

...So can we have the next episode and chapter, plz?
Wow, it's been a long time since I've done one of these. As in literally over 6 months. Ah, whoops? I suppose that's what happens when one is busy with Interning and Uni and assignments and exams and travelling all over the place.

Unfortunate consequence of this: The first couple of things on this list I literally watched months ago, and so it's now not so much immediate impressions as considered reactions. Which is both good and bad, since it means fandom has had time to get it's claws into me.

Posting in order of when I watched them, and everything potentially has spoilers all the way through.

Death Note (anime) )

Code Geass and Code Geass R2 (anime) )

Read or Die (OVAs) )

Ouran High School Host Club (anime) )

So, that'd be that then. Of course, finishing up that lot means I am rather deficient in my "To Watch" list, since I haven't got a real lot sitting around at the moment. I do have some assorted manga catching up to do, too.

Anyway, I currently have the first season of Black Lagoon, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. (Yeah, I know. But it's a classic, so I figured I should watch it at some point. And it was on special at JB Hi-Fi) But beyond that, I am totally open to recommendations. My older comments and reviews should give some idea of the stuff I like; beyond that I would prefer completed series, either something I can grab a box set of, or just a season torrent with subs. Possibly something a bit more cheery and happy, since... yeah.
Huh. Free time, I'd almost forgotten what that was like.

Not that I'm entirely free - I still have to study for my (one) exam, and write up my reflective essay or my internship. But classes are done, all my other assignments are done, and as of this Friday, my Internship will be done, too.

So, yeah. I actually have a bit of time to kill now. Which would be fun if it wasn't so damned hot.

So in order to take advantage of this shiny wonderful thing, today I... slept in really, really late. And [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and I went to the pool. I haven't been to the pool in ages.

While I am on that note: Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away! *\o/*

For the more fannishly inclined, I am now all caught up on my FMA, both manga and new anime.

For the new anime, while I agree with the people who were somewhat disappointed at how some of the manga stuff on Ishbal was cut (there were some really, really good scenes), I'm not exactly going to raise a fuss, given it's entirely likely we may get more flashbacks later. I'm not sure how several straight episodes of flashback would mess with the stories pacing (The Ishbal stuff would really be more suited to a movie adaptation, anyway).

And as of the most recent episode... I really need a Kimblee icon. Because man, seeing him animated reminded me of what a brilliantly menacing psychotic bastard he is. Shine on, you entertainingly batshit whacko!

I also confess to being highly amused by this.

As for the manga, Oh look, chapter 101 spoilers )

...Huh. Had more to say on that chapter than I expected.
FMA scanlations are up! But not on OneManga for some reason. Huh.

...And yeah, the flipping out from the fanbase was kinda justified. (If overshadowing some of the other major shit that went down in this chapter).

So taking it from the top, Away into SpoilerLand )

Yeah, lots of epic in FMA these days. Anyone willing to take a guess on how many more chapters we will have?

And to talk about something that isn't Fullmetal Alchemist: You know, I don't normally buy hamburgers. Well, vegetarian, duh. But I saw this one when I was in the city today, and I just could not resist.

A picture of the hamburger I bought:

And one with my copy of Unseen Academicals for scale:
Doesn't everyone want to buy a giant plushy hamburger? )

How could I possibly resist?
So, the last few episode of FMA:B have been kind of awesome, haven't they?

I'll admit I'm somewhat biased, since I'm one of those people who prefer the manga to the old anime and the recent episodes contained several things that I was most looking forward to seeing animated, namely Spoilers for the non-manga fen )

But yeah, now that they're past the previously adapted stuff and seem to have the pacing issues for the most part sorted out, I've been really, really loving the recent episodes. And really looking forward for the next ones, which is a plus and a minus (It'll be fun to marathon the lot once it finishes, and see how it is to watch that way). It possibly also helps that unlike some of the other mangafen, I'm not rereading chapters immediately before the episode, so I don't get upset when they cut a line/scene I like.

FMA:B was a bit on and off to start with, but I think it's really gotten into the swing of things now, and I am muchos looking forward to seeing the rest of the manga animated.

(Say, anyone know where I can find some really good icons of the last few episodes?)

Oh, and to spin off on a wildly different tangent, when you have time go and hunt down the new Batman: Brave and the Bold episode on YouTube (Or your current source of online video goodness). You won't regret it.

It's called Mayhem of the Music Meister and it's... a musical episode. Of a Batman cartoon. With Neil Patrick Harris voicing the villain.

And it is a thing of joy and hilarity forever. There are songs about taking over the world, and death traps!

This is why I call Batman: Brave and the Bold glorious crack. Because it is cracktastic, and it is glorious.

And since I finished my assignment and there's another week of break to go, I may actually be able to watch some new anime soon, huzzah!
Signs that there is something fundamentally wrong with the universe: You witness your mother dancing to MmmBop. Just... no.

But yeah, otherwise The Sister's 21st was rather fun. Even if there were only about three people there I knew that I wasn't actually related to. But it was still fun (Though some of the photos are probably going to be interesting).

And I actually got to have a chat about anime with the Sister's BFF whom I haven't seen in years. Which was interesting!

Incidentally, more parties should end with group balloon stompings.

In other news, today's interning wasn't nearly as cracktastic. Though I did get to check out the teeniest meeting room ever.

On the plus side, FMA Chapter 99 scanlations finally came out. So now I know precisely what the HOLY SHIT EPIC stuff going on is.

Evil. Pure evil.

...Yeah, so I went and saw Star Trek again. What can I say, it was Cheap-ass Tuesday and I didn't have anything else on today.

Other things of awesome today include the new chapter of the FMA manga, which remains in the OMG EPIC phase the last few chapters have been in. Spoilers! )

This week's FMA:B episode was slightly less awesome - not on account of being bad, since the episode was good, just that it was more a set-up/character one than epic shit going down. Decent adaptation of the manga, though, and they seem to have somewhat ironed out the pacing issues from the first couple of episodes.
So, apparently I am not the only one in the iPartment suffering from injuries this weekend. Apparently the HouseMatt got hit by a car when he was riding his bike on Friday. Fortunately, he got away with only bruises and grazes, but his bike was totally.

It makes me wonder if someone's gone and put a curse on the iPartment or something. Watch out, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, it could get you next!

Anyway, today I went to the football with Mum and The Sister. Which was entertaining - Richmond lost by a heap, so I got to mock The Sister's pain, which is always fun - and sort of puts an end to my organised Easter break stuff. I'll probably get all my homework done out of boredom, since I don't plan on doing anything that involves much walking until my toe is less ow.

In Internetland things, Amazonfail seems to be the big things, since half my flist seems to be posting about it. All I really have to say right now is: Amazon >:(. See if I buy anything from you any time soon.

And since my fannishness compelled it of me: new FMA episode review!

I've watched it twice so far, and it definitely worked much better the second time round, since I was no longer doing a compare-and-contrast between the episode and old!anime and manga versions (Actually, I've found this holds for most adaptations, you need to see them more than once to appreciate them as their own thing).

Incidentally, I remain terribly curious as to how an utter n00b to FMA is responding to the new series. Everyone in fandom is, well, in fandom and so they're all comparing it to the manga and/or the old series. I wonder how people without that background think.

Cut for mild spoilers anyone who knows FMA is aware of. Plus some episode details )

For what was basically a backstory-infodump episode, it was pretty well done.

And as I said in a comment to someone, it's an animated version of FMA manga plot, and it's decent. All they need to do is slow the pace a little and it'd be perfect.
