dr who stories with live chickens

A thread at the (former) OG containing... exactly what it appears to contain. Information on Doctor Who stories which happen to contain live chickens.

Yes, really.

It's good to know that no matter how wanky and stupid fandom might get, there will always something as ridiculously awesome as this going on in fandom somewhere.

And whilst I am on the subject of things that make me giggle, news from Fandom Wank: Due to the epic Harry Potter Lexicon Wank The Leaky Cauldron is cutting ties with the Lexicon.

It's more amusing when you consider how big the fallout will be than in itself, but... yeah. Kind of puts the insignificance of shipwank in perspective.
...So naturally, this post is going to be all about fandom and other inanities, and have no mention of anything Uni related whatsoever.

Also, it's somewhat of a GIP given I went and nabbed this one just this morning. (What can I say, except Pimpin! Mello is Pimpin'. And too awesome not to have an icon of)

Anyhoo, there has been yet another FW post about the Lexicon Lawsuit wank. Ypu've got to love this wank, the stupid: it just keeps on a-coming.

Over in Doctor Who fandom, it appears that the extras on the S3 boxset contain a guest appearance by Unexpected Naked Tennant! Which has certainly gotten parts of fandom quite worked up. Quite understandable, since Mr Tennant appears to have been working out and has some nice shoulders there.

And more seriously, a BBC press release about the return of Martha Jones and a certain S4 spoilery monster. Link also includes some fab group shots of the Doctor, Donna, Martha and Teh Alien.

Martha is looking mighty swish in those icons, in her lab coat and all the blacks. Very stylish. (I shall leave the debate Re: Rings she may or may not be wearing and their significance to others on my flist)

Though, those pics now make me want a mildly spoilery phrases here! ) icon now.

And finally, I have discovered that no matter how irritatingly wanky someone might be, no comment, no matter the depths of it's particular stupidity, can ever possibly be taken seriously once you have gone and made the mental association between their username and Team Rocket.

Kudos to [livejournal.com profile] biichan for that rhyme and whomever first came up with the comparison. I can't look at half the new series threads wthout bursting into giggles any more.

ETA: I was originally going to quote that "Remember remember the fifth of November" thing in this post. But, I forgot.

Bite me, irony.
This is not the GIP you are looking for. Even if the icon, by [livejournal.com profile] calapine needs to reformat the scale of awesome given how entertained I was by it

Over on Ye Olde Outpost Gallifrey Forums, there is someone informing us that there is due to be an important announcement of Doctor Who's future coming up, embargoed until tomorrow (UK time). And it's supposedly good news, so it seems unlikely to be the impending cancellation.

Cue mass speculation.

The main thought seems to be official confirmation of S5, but it strikes me as a very odd time to announce something like that, especially given that S4 wasn't announced officially until the S3 premiere, and the rumours about cancellation or what-all have been quiet as of late. Which makes me think it's somehow tied to the whole Tennant in Hamlet thing.

I guess we'll see when the embargo lifts. Which, according to some quick mental calculations, should be about 9am Melbourne time. I should be awake to see it, then...

ETA: The person who scooped the fact there is an announcement coming up is hinting at contents.

Nothing spoilery is said, but you can infer spoilers pretty easily )

And in completely unrelated news. This song is completely made of awesome

So, today I went to the hairdressers, and got my hair done again, all shiny and new (I was long overdue for a cut, seriously).

For those who are interested I have a (admittedlt rather dodgy, since it was taken with the aid of my wardrobe mirror) photo:

Cut for picture )

As you can see, I am no longer blonde. So, that lot is ended. I was starting to get bored with it, anyway, and was too lazy to do my roots (also, thinking ahead, I've heard the stories about pool chlorine turning it green). Still kept a few little

But, yes, shiny new hair. I rather like it, and it's interesting blonde streaky bits.

Also, for those who are familiar with The Emperor and his works at the OG, it seems that Sparacus has started a blog. I expect lulz aplenty.
Another parcel arrived today - Pressies from [livejournal.com profile] misscam. Which consisted of some cute socks with Reindeer on them, and a silver rune pendant thing. Thanks, Cam!

...Which reminds me, I need to send my cards and whatnot off. That will have to be done on Monday, though - tomorrow will involve, you know buying gifts, and Friday I have both CHAS stuff and [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's cocktail party. Oi, [livejournal.com profile] tinyteddyqueen, what time are you heading out to that, as I'll probably need a lift?

Tomorrow (I apologise for using my LJ as a to-do list):
- Drop in at Uni to sign up for the union while it's still discounted.
- Check a couple of subject things whilst at Uni
- In the city, to pick up some plain t-shirts for painting.
- Christmas presents for online types (and cards, if I haven't enough so far)
Feel free to drop me reminder links to your wishlists and/or addresses.

Also, plane tickets for Queensland have been booked. So, I'll be up there from the 1st until the 8th of February, if I recall correctly.

And random factoid from peeps at the OG who have seen the new DWM: Apparently for the New York episode, the director "and team" actually went over to New York to do some filming. Colour me impressed. Oh, and there's an apparent title for the Shakespeare episode.
I actually thought Torchwood was quite good this week. Colour me surprised.

The Beeb have been suppling some good stuff on their advent calender. The original Song for Ten the same day as the Soundtrack release - seems rather planned to me, must say.

Also, why is it that post-Doomsday reunion fic is always referred to as "fixing things"? Sorry dudes, canon isn't actually broken. It just went a direction you didn't like.

Oh, I have my parcel I was whinging about on the weekend. Turned out to be a bunch of Target novelisations I bought on eBay. Because it's not as if I don't have enough books already or anything. (I have, quite literally, run out of space on my bookshelf)

Also got another parcel, but it's contents shall not be mentioned, as the are possibly going to be used as Christmas presents. I'm still deciding whether I want to keep it for myself or not (though the seller did supply some lovely gift boxes...)

Oh, and the eBay kerfuffle of the other day appears to be resolved. I win, huzzah

Quote of the day (The day being, in fact, yesterday):
[livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away: "It's too hot to live, let alone wear pants!"

Oh, and over at Teh OG, I am having a 2000th post party. Other members, feel free to drop in and join the celebrations. Yes, it's a party celebrating my lack of life outside the internet, what can one do?
So, I was lurking on the OG again (having given up completely on the circular debate - someone who insists you are personally insulting them when you claim their theory has no textual support isn't worth my time methinks). Which is currently highly Torchwood-ified.

In any case, someone quoted a little bit of dialogue from the first episode. And, well, I now know of at least one title that is going to be used for far too many Jack/Doctor fics. *sighs*

Also, tonight/tomorrow morning (depending on your personal time zone) will be the US screening of The Girl in the Fireplace. Buckle up, kids we are going to be in for a bumpy ride.

I think I may wander over to the TWoP forums, just to check out the Shipper Apocalypse, as Jacob put it.

Oh, and for future reference: Varalys the Dark, aka Her that thought that just because she didn't have a problem with women being called "whores", no-one else should, either? If I recall correctly, her TWoP name was Doctor Quist. Keep an eye on out for that if you are another who plans to see the wankiness.

Can some please help me try and get it through to this idiot that refusing to accept anyone else's arguments does NOT mean that you are right! It means you refuse to accept you might be wrong!

ARGH! I hate it when people use stupid arguing like this.

And if I have to use the phrase ad hoc one more time, I just may scream.

So, I am apparently now on the Melbourne Uni SCA committee. Huh.

(My sole qualification was turning up for the meeting, so it was... odd. Oh well.)

Am feeling vaguely bitchy about my Psych tutor, as he said out Lab Reports would be back today, and they were - he just didn't tell us this until after the office they were in was closed for the day. Yeah, helpful.

Oh, and whilst still on Uni, today was our HPS lecture on Time Travel. Which was interesting, even if it didn't cover as much as I would have liked. We also talked a bit about it in the tute on Tuesday - namely, some different theories of travel (based mainly on two short stories, "All You Zombies" by Heinlein, and "A Sound of Thunder" by Bradbury). It was interesting anyway.

And, Doctor Who got a namecheck, which certain people on my flist may be aware of. ;

Yet another rec up. That's more than half, now. Um, yay? Though it does mean lots of icon changing, as I am trying to have suitable icons for each rec.

ETA: SOMEONE DISTRACT ME WITH SOMETHING INTERESTING, PLEASE! Or else I'll get in trouble from the OG mods for being mean to the idiot I am currently debating with.

Next rec up at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van! (You really think I could go all month without at least one Ten/Reinette fic?)

In other fandomly news:

Jacob's TCI recap is up. It's as pretentious and tl;dr as ever, but as far as I could tell the word "intimacy" did not show up at all. (If it did I blocked it from my memory). But, I am glad to note, it touches on the "Rose losing her self/humanity" theme multiple times - [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj might be interested to hear that. And there's a Peter Pan metaphor used in there at one point. You can kinda tell he's seen all of S2, really.

In fact, Mr Jacob himself went and showed up at the OG TWOP thread. And I was interested at his logic behind this strategy: "Plus, I have to conquer the shippers, don't you see? Or else S3 will be a bitch, and I'm ever so lazy."

On another fandom note, does anyone else find that when people they know and whose opinions they respect find something about their canon rageworthy, you feel vaguely... guilty for just liking the show, and not noticing these things? As in, you can see their point, and you know there are some deep issues in the writing, and yet when you are watching, you love it so much you really don't care? I feel like I'm a bad person for liking things, sometime.

And away from fandom, and onto Uni.

We used Clag in my Astronomy prac today. Clag! At Uni! It made me giggle wildly, it was just so strange. Oh, and Astronomy test results are back. I got 17 out of 20, which I was happy with, considering it's the test out evil teachers sprung on us unexpectedly, and I hadn't studied for.

Wardrobe notes: Hot pink fishnets over purple opaque tights looks really quite funky.

And, some amusing non-fandom wankiness: Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal spell-checker?

ETA: People who list their address in public posts worry me a little. No, it isn't anyone on my flist. Which is sort of the point.
drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (The OG)
( Sep. 21st, 2006 01:01 pm)
To all OG members on my flist: Come check out my 1000th post party thread!

Because at none of the other forums I've been in in the past, I've reached 4 digits (I tend to trail off after a coupld of hundred posts), and so I felt like celebrating. And a silly party thread seemed the way to go.

So, hurrah, party thread, come one, come all!
Sorry, for the temporary absence, but things have been a bit busy as of late, Uni-wise (The rush before the mid-semester break, you know. That said, no classes for two weeks, yay!).

Firstly: Yesterday, my Psych lab-report was due in Yesterday. As in, the worth 40% of my final mark one. So, much of Tuesday and Wednesday was spent completing that (just ask [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj, whom I chatted with whilst getting references). Still, that's in on time, and over and done with. And that'll the last I mention of that, since no-one is particularly interested in the correlations between intrinsic religious orientation and sense of humour, in relation to the personality trait of seriousness.

And, after the all-nighter that was spent completing that, I went and got a good night's sleep last night. As in 15 hours. I'm quite impressed with myself for that effort, actually.

Reasons why today's Astronomy prac made me headdesk: Because one really needs 13 years of education to enter celestial co-ordinates, and then press the "Take Reading" button.

Oh, and after Uni, me and the Creative Writing class went to see a play, written by one of our tutor's friends. It was... interesting. It had some really affecting bits, some terribly funny bits, and some painfully pretentious bits (including some trying to shove the agenda down my throat, which annoys me, even though I supported said agenda). Still, it was worth the 8 dollars.

I still don't know what I'm going to write my script on. But I think it'll be fourth wall breaking. I feel like writing a direct to the audience monologue. No idea what about, mind.

Now, some net stuff, for those who don't give a damn about my real life:

So, ten Doctors sit down for a game of poker... Or, fun with the [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho people.

From the land of unceasing crazy, aka the OG. Now, there is a certain individual at the OG, known for his extremely vocal (one might see even ravingly batshit) hatred of David Tennant's Doctor. And said individual has recently decided to start up a club of Tennant haters, complete with planned website, appeals to authorities to sack Tennant, and t-shirts. Normally, I'd be vaguely upset by this, but this guy's chosen name for his club? The Whovians Against Tennant Society.

(No, considering this guys prior record, this isn't a joke).

Now, I'm just highly amused by the fact I can legitimately call him a twat, and he can't complain. Or the rest of his (apparently) 21 and a half member-strong society.

Oh fandom, you so crazy.

Was lurking around a few threads on the OG, when I stumbled upon a recent - and rather unexpected post from Teh Moff.

(From here)

In response to a previous commenter's "Writer Steven Moffat has all but admitted that The Doctor & Rose were sexually active as of the 'Doctor Dances' episode"

Teh Moff:
"I say, no I didn't! The whole scene was about the fact they WEREN'T at it - indeed, it was the Doctor being slightly hurt that Rose hadn't even considered him in that light.

There's precious little evidence they ever got up to anything, I'd have said - that it doesn't stop it being a love story, of course (it clearly was) but unrequited surely?

Oh, it's all sex with you lot, isn't it? And when the writer of Coupling says you're banging on about sex too much, it's time to start listening.

Steven Moffat

Did mine eyes just decieve me, or was the word "unrequited" just used to describe the Doctor/Rose relationship by someone in the know?

Uni has started back up again. To which I respond with a mixture of "Ack!" and "Yay!"

And extreme tiredness. Note to self: Get sleep-pattern back to something resembling normality. One should not be completely exhausted by 9pm.

In any case, onto my day.

The Psych lecturer wasn't fantastic, but we are doing personality traits, which interest me enough to make up for it. Plus, he used a Far Side image for one of his slides, which was For The Win.

Though, I think the fact that when I heard the name Kant, my reaction was to get The Philosophers' Song stuck in my head is not entirely good sign.

Random Psych factoid: Under Eysenck's model for personality traits, Creativity is classified under Psychoticism. This amuses me.

Astronomy this semester is Stars and Galaxies, so pretty, pretty pictures, hurrah!

But it means I miss most of the FAS events, woe. I only got the end of the Gandalf vs Darth Vader battle.

Oh, and in HPS we saw a video about the Milgram Experiment.

On the HPS note: Apparently, a whole lot of people on my flist are in my Science, Philosophy and History lecture. Now, some of you I know in RL, but some I don't. And I really don't know what you look like. Care to arrange some identifying features for next lecture?

I was the blonde in the black hat sitting in the front row on the left.

And in current fandomly amusement: The fictional characters hate meme.

ETA: According to Teh OG, there is filming going on in Cardiff RIGHT NOW. For some strange reason, this really weirds me out.
Do check this out.

(The story behind all this: People in the OG Doomsday ratings thread were getting a bit edgy waiting for the AI figure to get in. Someone idly suggested they bet that the Love Island forum didn't have this sort of thing going on. At which point someone from the OG promptly went and started a thread in the Love Island froum about this very thing.

They were then followed by a swarm of other OG members, and it soon evolved into a rather hilarious parody of the OG)
Well, since I had such an interesting response to my last Moffatt quote, I thought I'd go dig through some of his other past posts, to see what else he had to say. I remember being highly entertained by him on the OG after Girl in the Fireplace, and wondered if I could find some more fun remarks.

I think this has to be one of my very favourite forum posts ever:

(In response to "Indeed, everyone got carried away (including me) and accusations were flying about in all directions" from an over-reacting fan-type)

"Well everybody kiss and make up. Or kiss and make out. No, hang on, we're all asexual, according to me. Let's all have a-sex, that's sounds good.

In other news: due to popoular demand, I am even now working on my Pompadour sequel. It's called "This Time, Fellatio!"

Steven Moffat"

It never fails to make me sporfle. Ever. You da man, Moffatt!

Also, I would so watch that. What?

I'm just feeling the need for some good Ten/Reinette about now, and I've read everything on my Links Lists too many times. And I can't be bothered digging through my folder for the next Links List for that good one I read earlier this week. Yeah, I'm lazy. Woe. Why can't the good fic just present itself to me?

ETA: And said fic is Generations, by [livejournal.com profile] calapine. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rhipowered, the good fic did present itself to me. Go, read, all of you, it's fabulicious. It's Ten/Reinette, and it's a Reinette as companion AU, and it's got Susan and old school refs, and is all sad and lovely and wonderful.

Also, there was some nice defences of Tom MacRae and Rusty himself.

Nice man, that Moffatt. Srsly. If only I had the money (and, you know, lived in the UK) so I could bid on that dinner with him and Paul Cornell. But $696US? And still half a week to go? Never a chance. Woe.

An interesting post I dug up on the OG just today from Steven Moffatt, about that episode, and one of it's more controversial factors. Namely, a cut line where a few people have commented they thought a line was needed.

Cut for those who don't want to be spoilerised )

Look who was right after all.
