I don't understand negative people. They confuse me.

[identity profile] svilleficrecs.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Often, they have a big pit of negative about something in their lives that they can't or won't address directly. So they shit on others in order to make themselves feel better, consciously or not. When someone's quite obviously being negative for the sake of being negative or mean...I try to remind myself that they've got some big unpleasantness in their lives, and try as they might, unless they have some intitutionally mandated power over me (boss, landlord, parents) or they're someone I give a shit about...they're worthy of pity and that's about it.

Er, thus ends today's Dr.Phil.:)

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear Dr Phil,

Thank you for your show. It made me slightly less confused, even if I still haven't the faintest idea how people can have much negativity about anything, really.

Yours, a perpetual optimist.

negative people

[identity profile] mustangsally78.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck 'em.

Got no use for 'em. I get enough in RL, I don't tolerate that shit online.

That's the cool thing about being online, you can really IGNORE people you don't like!

:::is not negative, but amusingly cynical::::

Re: negative people

I'm an optimistic cynic, if that makes any sense. I can be terribly cynical about certain things, but that doesn't stop me hoping for the best.

*ponders*

I think it's that I tend to think the best of individual people, but am rather cynical when it comes to groups. Particularly fandom related ones.

They are confusing and eventually exhausting, I've found. There's nothing you can do except not let it suck all the joy out of things for *you*, even if that means resorting to a 'meh' and a handwave until they snap out of it, which doesn't often happen because they're normally enjoying bitching/moaning far too much.

Why yes, I do know several negative people in RL. Does it show? *g*

Living well is the best revenge.

[identity profile] livii.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I understand negative people, it doesn't bother me except when I get overexcited and start babbling on about a point in an episode, heh.

We all interact with different things in different ways, and I'm a bit leery of the comments here that are so against negativity, because you can bet your bottom dollar they've gotten just as negative about something before too. I won't deny that I haven't (omg GitF aaah!) ;)

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's just the fact that I always try to be positive, and am quite basically a great big optimist, and so I really don't get people who seem devoted to being aggressively negative. I can understand disappointment in something, but forceful negativity bewilders me.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-11 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
STOP CONFUSING ME! You don't normally.

I'm confused too: I don't understand what you mean by 'negative people'.

People who say 'no' a lot? Pessimistic people? Angry people? Antimatter people?

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Pessimistic people, mostly - the sort that have something happen, and only notice the bad aspects of it.

Though the image of anti-matter people is amusing.

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm slightly negative, because then I can use up all my negative and go around beaming at people and being optimistic.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I just find it an odd perspective, you know? The way some people seem determine to not like, to not enjoy thing.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I think that's an attitude I can approve of.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I will admit the fittingness of that icon.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
NOOO, don't let the hate take away from your love!

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
but what if i only love it out of hate?!

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
...HUH?

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Rose cries an emo tear! What if I merely love it because I want a ship and just hate Rose? LIKE THOSE OPPRESSIVE ROMANASHIPPERS? :(

[identity profile] ranorith.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Just start mocking them 'til they get all mopey, leave them to become negative about it, then they'll be negative negative people which of course are positive people. :)

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Maths: making the world a better place.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Loving something solely because you hate something else isn't a healthy reaction. In any circumstances.

If you love something, it should be for it's own sake.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think I love it for it's own sake, but what if I am wrong?

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Do not doubt the love.

[identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
It has a horsie in it.

[identity profile] fa11ing-away.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
if only it worked like that.

if a person posts 2 mopey LJ entries, is that the equivalent of one happy one?

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Everything is better with horses.

[identity profile] ranorith.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's just boring old -1 + (-1) = -2

But if they make a mopey post, and then make a post moping and bitching ABOUT that mopey post then I think it all cancels.

Two wrongs do not make a right, but three rights make a left. Hehehe.

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Better than saving it up, at least. :)

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Try being negative back at them and see if it repels them like negatives do in skience.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-13 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
But I don't like being negative! *whines*

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2006-06-13 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
The only other option is to get a really big magnet and point the negative end at them.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-06-13 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Note to self: Buy really big magnet.
