drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (WTF Cat)

It just gets worse and worse...

And now we are up to Chapter 9 of the MsScribe epic.

And it has to be one of the most horrific accounts of fandom I have ever come across. Some pooor woman with cancer getting stomped on by a whole bunch of BNFs just because she asked one of them to link her fundraising website. After they had been going on about how fandom supports it's own and all that, too.

I don't think I have ever been so appalled by fandom as a whole. The things that were said...

It was sort of amusingly crazy before - like some big conspiracy theory. This just gets horrifying, manipulated or not. And it's terribly depressing when you're an optimist like me who always assumes the best of people.

I'm somewhere in between rose-tinted and cynical. But it's still... actually, it hasn't quite sunk in yet, that all the things I heard about when online for the first time were caused by one person.

Even if some of them aren't her, she was still responsible for a lot of it. And she did it to make herself known, to argue for the sake of arguing.

But it's actually appalling, when you get to Charitywank. I don't care if the girl had cancer or not. There was doubt on one side, and not the other? Such hypocrisy, and then the vitriol filled posts were despicable.

Even if she wanted the money for her own laptop, what was the problem? It's the same thing as the other lot did.

(Actually, hypocrisy is what gets me about most issues, and sometimes gets me arguing for the other side. Eep.)

Charitywank is the really appalling bit of it, I think. I mean, the systematic destruction of the reputation of a section of fandom is quite, quite horrible in it's own terms - and explains a lot about how vicious the ship wars are now - but at least they were a group. To attack one person like that, it's quite terrifying. Even if they were faking - which I don't believe, no one needs that sort of aggression thrown at them.

Exactly. She's attacking one person with seriously scary comments.

(If I got anything like that, I don't care if it's just the Internet, I wouldn't feel safe.)

I freaked out when I had a troll who was just saying offensive things about me, I have no idea how I'd react to something on this level.

I know how I'd react, if I didn't realise it was a thoughtless troll. And that scares me even more.
