Computers are evil

This was supposed to be a photopost and run down of Prosh Week and Scav Hunt, which was what has occupied me for the last few days.

However, last night my laptop went and died. Again. It's now out being tested for things, and I'm at a net cafe.

So, in lieu of interesting postings from me, I'll make a request of my flist: I've noticed that over the last few weeks, I've had quite a few people I don't know friend me. Some I've only chatted with briefly, some not at all.

So introduce yourselves, n00bs! Tell me who you are, about yourselves, why you friended me. And once my computer's back, I might chat with you a little more.

I believe it had something to do with that nice young gentleman in your icon.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. And the guy before that one too.

Aw, shit. You missed some fun stuff (http://community.livejournal.com/time_and_chips/2450805.html).

And it's on f_w, too, it seems!

My computer has bad timing.

Hello I'm Olive and I'm supposed to be working on a government essay on Australian foreign policy right now but frankly it's too depressing. I tend to amuse my real life friends who are in to fandom by managing to ship without really caring either way (case in point - I'm a Remus/Sirius and Remus/Tonks shipper just because I like being difficult).

I'd love to be a writer whenever it is that I grow up. Failing that being a librarian sounds fun. Or a speechwriter for a decent politican (although I don't know that I'll ever find one I'm pretty passionately dorky about politics so it is a nice dream). I worship Joss Wheddon/Aaron Sorkin/Terry Pratchett for their awesome writing skills, have a crush on both David Tennant and Sophia Myles and have what some think is a slightly annoying tendancy to see both sides of an argument fairly.

I friended you because I really enjoy reading your posts (and because if I can't have a science fiction club at UTAS I can bloody well hear about one in Melbourne) and love your Doctor Who posts because you always manage to say really interesting things that make me think about the episode.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I've never met someone called Olive before. *is with you on the Remus/Sirius and Remus/Tonks thing*

But it's nice to hear your reasons for friending me.

[identity profile] yattara.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I friended you after running into you over at JF. Go figure. ;) I liked what you had to say about the good Doctor.

Dutch, female, in my twenties, I hate bad fanfic. In RL I'm the only one who's into any fandom, apart from Mel, and he only reads what I link him to. Better for his sanity. ;) The screaming fits I have sometimes do tend to make my parents go 'Are you all right over there?' Ç'est la vie.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, good old JF...

Who's Mel?

[identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though we both know the truth of the best ship out there ever, I realised I totally havent introduced myself.

So belated introduction. I'm Caff (answers to any bastardisation of Catharine you care to chose though), I turned 20 back in May, and I live in Birmingham, England.

I'm a second year undergrad Law student at Birmingham Uni, utterly loving it, although I was nearly an English-Drama undergrad. I live in a happy little house with other students, and often in my own little world entirely.

I like an awful lot of TV shows, despite not watching them that often, and absolutely love books. I mainly go in for rock music, but I listen to anything and everything. I like going out to clubs and dancing.

I'm eclectic when it comes to fandoms and pairings. I'm not overly picky when it comes to pairings all in all, I just like the fic to be well written. My main pairings lately are Remus/Tonks (HP), Doctor/Rose (9th mostly, DW), Veronica/Logan (VM), and lots of others that are out of the attention span for now. Oh, and of course TICKYBOX/Doctor/Door. That one owns the lot.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
You are a Law student? One of my housemates is doing Law. He's also quite evil, in an entertaining way.

And TICKYBOX/Doctor/Door for the win!

[identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Seems to be a law prerequisite, being somewhat evil. Liking vast quantities of alcohol and not being in possession of all your faculties seem to be trends also. Although the last two can be said of most plenty other students.
My housemates are an ex-nursing student and a computing-based-thing student (I never do admit that I cant remember the title of his course). Student life ftw!

Doctor Who killed your laptop?

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the battery not charging when I have it plugged in killed my laptop. If you can work out a way for Doctor Who to cause that, I salute you.

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2006-08-23 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The amount of Who on your laptop reversed the polarity of the neutron flow.

There.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-24 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
That is so completely win.

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
*takes a bow*

I thank you.

[personal profile] fannishnonsense 2006-08-19 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Corrie and I friended you because of Doctor Who. Specifically because of your poll asking who the biggest fandom whore is. When I saw that I knew you were someone I'd want on my f-list.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it wasn't my idea - someone else on my flist asked me to do it.

But I think that sarcasm is a good way to treat stupidity.

[identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Cam. I like teh funneh and point at the wank. At night, I fight silly ship names.

[identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds rather familar.

Now wonder Doctor Who killed Snarry. It couldn't cope with the stupid smushed name.

You pimped your lists on F_W and I decided to friend you for further entertainment. :) I, however, am rather boring unless you like fish or publishing wank.

[identity profile] lizvogel.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi. I have no idea how I got here, except that you posted an interesting comment on some other LJ I read.

I've been in fandom longer than some fans have been alive. (I remember when getting anything other than 4th Doctor in the U.S. was still an exciting novelty.) Been lurking around LJ for a while, but only recently started actively participating. Still mostly a lurker at heart.

I friended you because you write entertaining posts, and because reading your LJ is way less time-consuming and easier on my blood pressure than keeping up on all the DW wankage on my own would be. ;-)
