So much for that

So, I sort of quit the door-knocking job.

Which ended pretty painlessly and all, manager guy says I can use him as a reference and what-not, but does mean I am rather without a job again. Though I suppose I can go to that volunteer thing that was open and yet I never got around to starting on account of full-time work.

So that's that, I suppose.

In other news, I am off to Mum's and then Bendigo over Easter - I think I'll head down on Friday evening. Plus, some of my online purchases showed up, so I will have a nifty outfit to wear to Supanova, whichever day I end up going on.

Hey, flistians, which of you guys will be going, and on what days? I really wish they had a schedule out already.

Also, I bought Tinkerbell pajamas

Rather like a couple of weeks back, I am due to be heading off away from Melbourne for work again. Not nearly as far as Wodonga this time around - it's Seymour for this week - but it'll again mean my internet access is somewhat limited.

On the plus side, I've actually gotten my email working properly on my phone, so anything that sends out notifications, or just plain emails should get to me. Actually catching up with my flist may take a little longer, mind.

But yes, work has been... work. Had a bad patch earlier in the week, but that seems to be done with, but I have decided I really, really don't want a job that involves spending all day walking around outside once we get to Winter, so if anyone knows of any job vacancies open (or soon to open up)... let me know?

I can deal with the long hours and the mediocre pay, but horrible weather on top of that is just going to be too much.

On the other hand, today I had someone's kitten follow me around as I knocked doors for about an hour. Really. And then I went and signed up her owner, so it was all good.

Aside from it seems that for Easter my family is going to Bendigo to see the Grace Kelly exhibition, and then the week after that is Supanova. I shall be there one of the days, not sure which till I get a schedule, and what I am wearing shall depend on the magic of International shipping and online purchases. If my stuff comes I shall wear it, if not I'll probably did out that Mari outfit again. My hair's long enough for it, since I'm kind of needing to get it cut.

Penguins and Shopping! (But not shopping for penguins)

Oh hey Penguindrum fans! (I know there is at least one on my flist) You can make your own flashback boards!

I even made one for myself (Please forgive the crappy Google Translate Japanese. Now, if only I could work out how to embed it...

For those who are curious as to what it's about, Mum was down in Melbourne last night, so The Sister and I went and had dinner with her. I was actually rather hoping for Mexican, but the place we looked at had an enormous queue, so we ended up back at the hotel restaurant. It actually wasn't all that bad, even if it meant I ended up walking in a great big circle in those absurd heels I was wearing.

But yes, family dinner then, which means I must now really got onto sorting out the rest of my Christmas shopping before I head back to Hamilton for Christmas itself (Or to be precise, a couple of days before - which, yes, does mean I will probably miss out on seeing the last episode of Penguindrum for a few days. No spoilers for it, plz.)

I also have to ponder what I shall get with the Harvey Norman gift voucher, which was Dad's present. I could be useful for the other iPartment residents, and get a food processor so they could use it too. Or I could be more selfish, and get a new digital camera - mine's a few years old now (5 years, actually, now I think on it) and tends to play up in really hot weather.

*sigh* Oh the great pains of having to think about shopping.

Some other entertainment (on neither shopping nor penguin related topics):
- The 10 best commercials of the year. I love it when advertisers show a little intelligence. And fun.
Also, the 30 freakiest ads, if you want a little more WTF in your advertising/
- Cello Wars. Ah, the Star Wars cello duel. Because what could be more niftily entertaining than that?
- There's a new Dark Knight Rises poster image out. Plus there's all that stuff about the prologue, but there are no special screenings of it in Australia. *pout* And I ain't paying for Imax tickets to see Tom Cruise's movie, sorry.

...I guess I'll just have to wait for Sherlock Holmes and the full TDKR trailer.

The best part of today was the rainbow table.

Well, one assignment has been completed (and as I was rather intending, before [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's birthday bash this weekend), leaving me just one thing to do this semester. And the thing I finished isn't even due until Monday. It also has a table with pretty rainbow colours.

Of course, it just happens to be the one which requires some creative use of ICT. Yeah, so I'll have to ponder that for a bit.

Oh, and speaking of [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's birthday party, (masquerade themed, for those not in the know), I have sorted out my outfitness. There was a mild issue with my mask and my dress not matching very well, but I have come up with a cunning plan to make my colour scheme work. Now I'll just need to work out public transport arrangements when wearing what is basically a ball gown. Huzzah!

So what is up with you guys in LJ land? Aside from the ones I have chatted to, recently.

And your daily supply of linked nifty things:
- I could legally get Batman number plates for my car. If I actually owned a car, that is. But points for that, Victoria.
- And since I'm talking Batman, the Book of Batman. Of course someone is making a Batman bible.
- Magic cards with googly eyes. It's hilariously adorable! And actually makes me think Magic is vaguely interesting for once.

Victory is not having your fingers stuck together with super glue

Oh weekend, how I had missed you so. Mostly for the chance to sleep in for once, but there you go.

But yes, after the far too much going on days of placement, it's nice to be able to just bum around home for a bit.

Sleep in. Do laundry. Get groceries. Watch the newest episode of Mawaru Penguindrum - things are really getting going now - getting crafty on accessories for my outfit for Manifest.

Anyone else planning on going to Manifest? It's on next weekend, and I figure I'll be there for one of the days, don't know which yet. (Be nice if they'd put out a schedule already...)

And that would be that.

Have some lulzy pictures I have seen!

There's Portraits of Dogs as they shake off water (They are some of the best expressions ever, really), as well as some really great comic cover blurbs.

Teh internets, how you amuse me.

What's been up for everyone else lately?

I like the feeling of a finished assignment

Assignment has now been handed in, meaning I am now entirely finished with the semester (except for waiting for marks).

Which means holidays, huzzah!

So after doing my handing stuff in bit, I spent a bit of time chatting with Goldie at Union House, before wandering around and looking at shops, and basically just hanging around the city for a few hours. Ended up buying a couple of books from the Borders closing sale whatsit. And some turquoise earrings that were on special.

I also had a lavender macaron (I know, I was surprised to see that had lavender ones, too). And a hot chocolate with liquor in it. Which was not unpleasant.

Though yes, the absence of class means I am now rather more up for social type things in the city now. Anyone got anything coming up soon?

To finish, I shall link you to the wonder that is Samuel L. Jackson reading "Go the F**k to Sleep".

Because how could anyone not love that? It's pure class, really.

Oh planning, why so complicated?

So, it is once more Towel Day. And also the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May. All that great geekiness, all smushed together on the one day.

It's like a geeky smoothie.

In other news, I am kinda trying tow work out all my plans for my birthday this weekend. I've family stuff on Sunday, so that's sorted.

But I need a lift to/from Lara's thing on Friday (well, I suppose I could get a train out there if someone can pick me up from the station, but I don't know if the trains run late enough for me to get home...), because I would quite like to go. I can get into the CBD, if it helps anyone.

And I'm curious as to who I know who is going to the Melbourne Slutwalk on Saturday, because I'd rather like to meet up with people there. And then we can go have something to eat or drink or whatever for my birthday afters.

So... yeah. Some assistance please, people?

As a reward, have some YouTube videos.

I have this video from TropFest, which I found rather amusing. (It has animals!)

And while I have no intention of going to go see Fast Five, I have to admit this has to be one of the best movie ads I have ever seen. The tag-line is "Car chases make movies better", and you should really just watch it.

Oooh, shiny things

Apparently I was not alone with my bitching about the cold yesterday, judging by the papers today. Nice to know I am not alone there.

I have decided that it was really quite necessary to link this news report: Darth Vader reporting on the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi. For once, do read the comments.

And some shiny pictures that some people on my flist might like. We have some obscenely creative bookshelves, because everyone likes to turn storage systems into art, and a steampunk house.

Some people are so creative with their residences. I bet they don't have limits of what they can do because of rent.

Also, I have just noticed that the Melbourne version of SlutWalk is due to be on the 28th of May, aka my birthday.

Anyone up for attending and then afterwards going to go get something to eat somewhere? I'd suggest dinner but it seems to finish too early for that (Though I suppose it depends what we get up to after. Or we could see a movie or something)

Far too many silly costumes

So today was the last day of school (for school schools, not Uni), which meant that placement today was kinda... interesting. By which I mean the SRC decided to have a Harry Potter themed day, and there were a bunch of kids running around in Potterverse costumes.

I think the best was the kid as the Golden Snitch. He had a shaved head and had painted himself gold. All over (as far as I could tell- he was wearing shorts).

Personally I just stuck with wearing my wizard hat. ;)

But I have a busy weekend ahead of me, it seems. Supanova is on and I decided I was going to go on Saturday (ie. Tomorrow) - I know a few others on flist were planning to go, anyone want to meet up at some point. Or I could just check phone details and work out something when we are there.

Plus, after that my Father decided to inform me just yesterday that he was planning on being in Melbourne tomorrow and would I like to go out to dinner? He may just have to deal with me dressed in something ridiculous, because I don't really think I would have time to get home to change.

And then on Sunday I shall have to do homework. What a thrilling end to the weekend.

*insert gratuitous line from a Christmas carol here*

Well, I appear to have finished my Christmas Shopping, which is good. It was busy enough around town now, I'd hate to think of what it would be like next week. Yes, it was rather last minute-y, but it wasn't that last minutey. Really.

I will admit to being rather baffled as to why it is cheaper to buy 30 Christmas cards than it is to buy 5. Seriously, that's all sorts of ridiculous.

...And people keep asking me what I want them to get me, and I don't knooooow. There's nothing I especially need right now (unless I experience a sudden and unfortunate technology catastrophe in the near future), and all my personal shopping as of late has been of the "Oh that looks shiny and affordable, I might get that." I mean, it'd be nice to have a new and better iPod or camera, but the old ones still work fine at the moment, so it's not as if I need that.

*sigh* I apologise to everyone who is trying to shop for me, I'm being very unhelpful, I know.

The other Christmas thing I need to work out is travel arrangements, since I am planning on heading back to Mum's for Christmas. The main deal at this point is what dates to head there and back, and what the train timetables are like. Because everyone loves a 4 hour train ride.

What's everyone else got planned for Christmas? And for that matter, what's on for New Year's - Melbourne types, has anyone got something organised?
