Has anyone else noticed how incredibly slashy The Producers is?

Also, John Barrowman as Nazi singer dude, eee!

The songs are so much fun, though. But I say I prefer the stage version more, if only for the hilarity of Bert Newton as a Nazi.

...I really should stop watching musicals, shouldn't I?

I've still not seen that film *cries*

You should *never* stop watching Musicals. Musicals for the win!

The Producers is slashy, yes. Mind you, the original version is far slashier.

He is so camp! And blond!

The songs are fun and earwormy, but I'd rather have the old version (Gene Wilder and LSD).

Just as long as you don't start singing Springtime for Hitler in any public places. :)

It's out on DVD, you should be able to hire it out from somewhere.

I get this disturbing urge to join in the musical numbers. Curse my many years of stage experience!

The original will go on my "To watch" list. I mean, I've seen the new one and the stage version, I really ought to see the original.

And I don't think I shall. I hope.

*blinks*

You know whats bad.. I didn't even pick up the fact that he's in that movie.

I've been meaning to see it for a while, but also kinda dreading it, mostly because Will Ferrell is in it, and he grates on my nerves something shocking. The only time I've ever found him funny is his cameo in Starsky & Hutch.

But John Barrowman? Cool! I never realised... :D

Well, I haven't seen much of Will Ferrell - his movies aren't the sort of thing I normally watch - so he didn't grate too much for me. I can't comment on how you'de respond, though.

And yes, John Barrowman. With blue contacts and bleached blond hair.

If you sing it in some of the right places, people will sing along with you!

I'd like to see an amalgamated version sometime. Wilder and Mostel gave better performances, but the gay subtext isn't as dated as the drug one. Someone needs to make the ultimate fanmix...

He doesn't look like himself - with the bleach and the uniform, he's creepily like a Nazi recruiting poster come to life.

If you want to see him with his natural hair color, he gets to keep it (and also gets to both sing and talk... and flirt) in DeLovely.

Dude. If I had to stop watching musicals, my life might as well be over. *shudder*

I imagine I'd feel the same if someone took away my music.

Oh I noticed... but the fact that I saw the film alone with my mother prevented me from mentioning it. =P

I do love it though, it's a such a crazy musical-style hilarity thing. I don't know, maybe it's just my stage humour reflecting. Fantastic songs and physical comedy. And I think all the actors were fantasticly well cast except perhaps for Uma Thurman - whilst she certainly had the legs to play Ulla, her look and her voice just made the character odd. I never got to see it when it was on stage (14 years old, no job, and $150 tickets are not a good combo), but the chance to see Bert Newton and Reg Livermore camping it up... I wouldn't miss it again.

Oh, and NEVER stop watching musicals. The day you stop watching musicals is the day when a little bit of your SOUL dies.

BTW, did you go to Tintern, and were you in the school musicals there?

Stage humour is fabulous, but quite often it doesn't work as well when it isn't, well, on stage. And movie presence and stage presence are very different things, too.

The day you stop watching musicals is the day when a little bit of your SOUL dies.

I will remember this. *nods firmly*

And I went to Geelong College (well, The Geelong College, to be technical), and was in the chorus a bit. I have over a decade's experience in Ballet, Jazz Ballet, and various other types of dancing, though. Chicago is the most fun ever to dance

*nods* I understand. Often stage humour tranlates a big clunkily onto the big screen, which was the complaint of many reviewers for The Producers. In that case though, I disagree, I thought they managed to capture a lot of that stage presence and project it into the film. There were some clunks, but I thought it was generally very good!

It's crazy, you just remind me of someone who went to Tintern. I was looking for some exciting coincience, because I went to all the Tintern musicals (before I started being in them!) and I thought, wouldn't it be exciting if you were someone I knew! Ah well.
Chicago and all the other Fosse style ones are awesome aren't they? Love the dancing. One of the best high-school musicals I've ever seen was Chicago! Wish I could've been in it. =\
