drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (Penguindrum: Sho and Penguins)
( Sep. 12th, 2011 10:34 pm)
Or, "Oh, FOUL" would probably be more appropriate.

Seeing how our delightful club FOUL has their AGM today, and it went... rather like one expects FOUL AGMs to go. Aka, everyone rushing to get through things so they can get to the free Pizza.

A remarkable number of inanimate items, mostly clothing, got elected to positions. Including my hat, which was unanimously voted in to become the "Rear Admiral of Commerce".

Yes, my hat is now higher ranked than I am. Ain't life grand?

Yes, the FOUL AGM was far more interesting than any of today's classes

And a randomly amusing quote from one my lectures today: "Who is Machiavelli, and why is he abstract?"

Also, I have some new icons! Seeing as I felt in need of some Penguindrum ones.
drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (FMA: Al All Grown Up)

So howdy there to all the new people who have added me from the [livejournal.com profile] fm_alchemist friending meme!

Drop me a line here to introduce yourself properly - because while friending memes might give you an outline of what people might be interested in, the don't always give the best idea as to who people actually are.

So: Introduce yourself, tl;dr about your favourite things, link me to introductory posts or profiles, ~theorise~ about what this new FMA movie will be, ask me questions about me, or just generally get some proper conversation going now that it's not actually the middle of the night in local time.

(Also, great excuse to show off new end of FMA icons. No, I'm not being gratuitous here at all *looks shifty*)
Okay, so anyone have any suggestions for what songs I should put on my new phone to use as a ringtone, or should I just stick with Imperial March? (Speaking of which, I kinda want someone to wring me, just so I can hear it play.)

...Yeah, there was more phone related fiddling today. And setting things up. And working out how stuff works. It was most productive. But as [livejournal.com profile] gryffinclaw pointed out, it is currently lacking a name. And possibly an original wallpaper.

Oh, and advice about any ~must have~ apps I should possibly download for it? For Google Android, and preferably free. So far the most useful thing I've found is a currency converter, which may come in handy for my overseas jaunts.

And I wasn't just messing around with my phone today. Got 500 words of my SSRM assignment done (Though, yes, they were the easy 500). I'm hoping to get it mostly finished by the end of the week, because I know once the last chapter of FMA starts to leak, my productivity will go down the drain. So, 1500 to go - tomorrow, I'll try and get the lit review done. Research. Fun.
So, on the subject of Facebook friendage, The Sister's boyfriend has also now decided to add me. I'm not sure what exactly what this signifies in the greater scheme of things, but hey! Maybe now I'll actually remember his last name.

Also, many thankies to [livejournal.com profile] robotlove for the LJ gift of... a sugary bunny. I'm not entirely sure why you decided to give this to me, but hey, sugary bunny!

I could totally go sugary bunny IRL, actually. How much longer until the post-Easter sales anyway? Do I have to resort to eating sugar cubes again?

...Yeah, this wasn't a gratuitous icon post at all.
...Suddenly having two new icon spaces isn't really a good reason to get a new icon just because it makes me laugh uncontrollably, is it?

Also, I totally called it in other post about FMA scanlations. They don't make things better at all. ;_;

Spoilers in this cut! )

Incidentally, my suspicion that FMA is going to end with 108 chapters is increasing. Because, well, this has to be the darkest hour before the dawn.

On a lighter FMA related note, there is this post, for all your inappropriately lulzy greeting card needs. (There are chapter 104 spoilers in the comments, though).

And the promo trailer for the FMA:B dub. Which starts in the US on Valentine's Day.

And, now for something completely different: A meme I yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] ypaladinofchaos.

Leave a comment saying, "COMMENT" and I will give you five words I associate with you. Then post about what they mean to you, along with this, at your journal.

My answers are: Behind the cut )
...Yeah, I think the icon says it all, really.

It was either that or yammer about the TTGL movies and their awesome ridiculousness. I need more things to talk about.
I have new icons! Erm, again. Yeah, yeah, I know, 199 icon spaces and it still isn't enough. Ain't life grand.

Speaking of life, right now it's sort of incredibly dull, though I do have a few things of interest and/or educational necessity coming up. Which is what I get for being spectacularly uninterested in the Melbourne Cup. (I wasn't in any sweepstakes, so really...)

So instead I've been doing gratuitously Internetty things. Like, say, finding new icons. Or, after a certain conversation on my flist, going on an interesting AMV hunt. Which was... interesting.

I think my best find has to be this. "This" being a remake of the Utena OP with, of all things, Code Geass characters. And despite the kind of crack sounding concept, it actually pulls it off very well. Though I think trying to work out which character is substituting for which might make your brain explode. My favourite bit is probably the montage that is presumably set during the R2 21 one-month timeskip. Because LOL)

And to go off on a completely unrelated tangent - Well, not so unrelated, since it's also gratuitous and Internetty - I have been uploading my Egypt photos today.

Yes, it isn't a proper post for them, and yes, this is ridiculously, ridiculously late. But hey, you can look now. At some point soon I'll pick out some of my favourites and do explanations; for now, feel free to look through them and ask about any of them that strikes your curiosity.
So day two of interning was Saturday. Which was ...interesting. Mostly interesting in that my supervisor wasn't there, so I spent far too much of the day bot entirely certain I was doing what I was supposed to. Alas. Also, there wasn't any birthday cake today.

On the plus side, I can actually log into my computer today, so yay for that. Also some of the articles I read were kinda interesting.

...I think I need a more interesting life right now. Given I can't think of much to write, either here or for Creative Writing. Any suggestions, anyone?

Oh, and happy 21st to The Sister. Not that she reads this at all.
Okay, so it's not so much a gratuitous icon post as a gratuitous icon meme. But I'm apparently feeling quite gratuitous right now, so there you can.

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] peekaydee, but anyone is free to comment and join the ~chain of memery~.

Instructions are:

1. Reply to this post with 'Icons!', and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will - allegedly - create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

In which I talk icons )

So, let me know if you want in, and I'll suggest icons at you.
So the people I applied for an internship with have gotten back to me. Finally.

But hey, I meet up with them on Tuesday. And, yeah, things are looking rather positive.

Which is pleasing, what with the whole course credit riding on it and all. And I was just about to get all panicky at my subject co-ordinator.

...Yeah, I just posted because this icon makes me laugh.

I need my Xing characters goodness already. Pah. I am not at all amused by the current state of events.

I shall have to find my fannish entertainment else. Like this icon, which makes me LOL like a crazy person every time I look at it.

Watch him wiggle, it's hypnotic...
Because one of the downsides of swotvac and exam study aside from the whole having to study deal is how it sort of really kills my social life, and thus gives me not all that much post about, I am gratuitously memeing.

Ta to [livejournal.com profile] londonesque for this meme, even if it appears that the last time I made a meme post, it was this very meme. Hey, that was five months ago. However in honour of this recent memeage, I shall use only icons I have picked up since then. Which is actually quite a few. (Excluding the first two categories, which are Old And Boring Icons)

...Yeah, I am not at all waiting for the new FMA scanlations.

Note: I have also managed to make this meme mildly redundant before I've even gotten any comments, on account of some more icon fiddling. And so it goes

...Yeah, so I went and saw Star Trek again. What can I say, it was Cheap-ass Tuesday and I didn't have anything else on today.

Other things of awesome today include the new chapter of the FMA manga, which remains in the OMG EPIC phase the last few chapters have been in. Spoilers! )

This week's FMA:B episode was slightly less awesome - not on account of being bad, since the episode was good, just that it was more a set-up/character one than epic shit going down. Decent adaptation of the manga, though, and they seem to have somewhat ironed out the pacing issues from the first couple of episodes.
And yeah, this totally actually a GIP. And a Gratuitous Talking About Icons Posts (a GTAIP?), since I actually managed to astound myself and completely fill up my icon space. And since I have a permanent account that's like almost 200 icons.

And now I have to go through them and figure out which ones I want to delete, because I have a bunch more icons sitting around to add shut up, I just finished watching Utena today, and not only was it awesome but the fandom has a ridiculous number of pretty, pretty icons. It appears that Doctor Who and associated fandoms will be getting the hard end of the cull, on account of A. having a ridiculous number of Doctor Who icons already, and B. the whole having other fandoms I care about more right now.

But hey, it means more exciting new icons for me. Which is always nice.

On a vaguely related note, after ages of nothing, there should be a new anime review post later this week - probably on the weekend.

ETA: For [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, the first chapter of the Knights of Cydonia manga. Or "Sidonia" as they spell it. No idea if it's at all related to the song, mind.
This week's dose of Weekly Wednesday Weirdness has been suspended on account of today being insufficiently weird. Alas. Instead it just had awkward family dinners.

Anyway, in lieu of entertaining weirdness, have this nifty thing from my Psych lecture on Monday. Play with the settings, it's bizarrely fun.

Also: Howdy to all the new people on my flist from recent friending memes and fandom chat. FMA is the most recent, but belated greetings to the Watchmen types as well.

Yeah, this wasn't just an excuse for a GIP at all
Aaand we've just finished up our first ever iPartment Hour of PowerTM. And by "Hour of Power" I mean weekly hour of cleaning the iPartment in the hopes that we won't have to run around like headless chickens next time we are due for inspection.

I have playlist duties in two weeks time. Excellent.

Anyway, my bounciness of yesterday has carried on into today. Partially on account of Uni stuffs - stupid boring essay has been handed in, on time and everything, and on account of my weirdly sporadic Psych prac schedule and no classes on Friday, I only have one more class before Easter break.

But onto more important things. Namely fandom.

I has an icon of the shiny new FMA OP! It's so pretty.

And I went and watched the episode with fansubs, so I could actually tell what was going on (and they were actually decent subs).

Conclusion from seeing the episode with subs: It actually works much better, as it explains a few WTF aspects of the episode, and the jokes flow much better. And I can actually see how they could just shove manga plot after this and it'd work. Basically, I love it to bits. All of it.

That said, I'm rather curious as to how it worked for complete n00bs to FMA. I've seen a few old anime-only fans reactions (Mix of dislike for it being different, or confusion about the differences. Or just excitement) and the mangafen are torn between being annoyed it wasn't a manga episode, and squeeing at all the manga plot hints.

But I dunno how it works as an introduction, what with it being basically a case of HERE ARE SOME AWESOME CHARACTERS! HERE ARE THEM DOING AWESOME THINGS! HERE IS SOME (AWESOME) FORESHADOW OF EPIC PLOT! Then again, next week looks to be backstory central, before we get into the main swing of things. Which I can't watch live, 'cos of Cirque du Soleil.

Oh, how tragic my life is. ;)

*goes back to flailing*
You know, right now I don't even care that today was Friday the 13th. Because I've been having a great day.

I mean, to start with there was the announcement from DC that my darling Blue Beetle will be getting his own comic again! Admittedly, it'll only be as a short backup feature with the Booster Gold comic, but I like Booster Gold and love Blue Beetle and there is no way this is not actually awesome.

Well played, DC. Well, played.

Secondly, tomorrow I am going with Mum on a chocolate walking tour. I have absolutely no idea what this entails, but it has the word "chocolate" in it's name, so awesomeness is inevitable.

And thirdly, I have a bunch of nifty new Watchmen icons.

Class was class.

Yeah, I'm on another of my random inexplicable deliriously hyper kicks. Make use of it while it lasts.
You know, I would talk about Uni, but thus far this week it has been less than interesting. Well, possibly excluding Novels, in which when we had to come up with event to start a plot, I somehow ended in a group with this one guy who was obsessed with teddy bears. Yes, I know.

Also, next week we are discussing American Psycho. I feel a sudden urge to have a business card made.

I'm going to get back to the interesting stuff, aka fandom. And it turns out this is going to be a sequel to my last post, since the exact same fandoms turn up.

Anyways, after Uni on Monday, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and I went to see Watchmen at the IMAX. I went again, partially because I wanted to see it on IMAX, partially because I wanted to see if the comments I heard about it being better the second time were true, and partially to see how someone who hadn't read the graphic novel would react. (Her reaction, as far as I can tell, seems to be along the lines of "It was quite good, especially with the shades of gray stuff, but I never want to see it again." She did pinch my copy of the novel to read, so...)

And in vaguely related news, I seem to be finding movie!Veidt distressingly attractive. Which is wrong on multiple levels, starting at the fact that this is, you know, Adrian Veidt we are talking about (and I certainly never liked comic!Veidt like that) and ending with him being, as [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away put it, very Mardi Gras.

Curse you, Matthew Goode, for making him so damn pretty. Especially in the scene in my icon, which wins a prize for moments that shouldn't be hot but are. It doesn't hurt that there's actually been some decent fic floating round. Or fanart, which is currently with the screencaps I've nabbed in a folder on my computer. Named "Boys", for the lulz factor.

And to jump over to my other fandom du jour, there's a new chapter of FMA up, and it's really kinda epic. We're definitely getting close to the end here, but oh boy, it's fun right now.
As people may have noticed, I now possess Watchmen icons. So huzzah for that.

And while I'm still on my Watchmen mentioning kick, despite whatever criticisms I may have had for the movie, there is no denying that the opening titles were a thing of brilliance. And now they are available online, so you don't have to resort to crappy handheld camera versions if you want to see them again.

Incidentally, there is already Watchmen movie wank. Bless you, mockable idiots.

Also, something that only really struck me during my icon hunt was the mildly strangeness of how going to Egypt has affected the way I watch/read the Ozymandias parts of Watchmen.

Mainly because I keep having stupidly random thoughts, like wondering if Gibbons based the chair in my icon on the one in the Egyptian museum. Or wondering how close movie!Karnak is to my photos of the actual one.

Or how exceptionally fitting the name "Ozymandias" is for Veidt, because aside from the subtext of the poem there's also the fact that the real Ozymandias, aka Rameses II, was apparently the publicity whore of the pharaohs, judging by the amount of monuments and statues I saw of him. (Which is why I am mildly confused by the poem, but I digress)

Any, onto other fannish stuff: since the new FMA anime is less than one month away now (!), there seems to have been quite a bit of news on it in the past few days. We've got a new cast (for the first few episodes, anyway), which has some major changes, so that's certain to cause wank. Plus there's the inexplicable new character no-one knows anything about.

There's a new trailer, with a new ending theme. Actually, there's been several new trailers, but this one only came out today.

Oh, and we seem to have confirmation that it's at least manga based, due to certain scans, even if it's not a 100% direct adaptation.

So yay for that.
Note to self: Before purchasing any of the nummy looking Sangria at the Night Market, make sure you consider the following facts. A) Your ridiculously lightweight-ness when it comes to drinking, B) Just how large the damn glasses are, and C) How little sleep you had the night before on account of Inauguration watching.

Just for future reference.

Anyhow, it appears I shall be having a rather busy day tomorrow - at least compared to my recent days, in which I have been doing, um, not much.

But yes, I shall have to toddle over to Carlton tomorrow to see the Doctor (nothing important, I just require another needle jabbing), and then I have to buy some vital supplies for Egypt. Like shoes and new underwear. And a replacement Suduko book, for when my current one runs out.

At least I should be able to get to bed decently early tonight.

And this post is now officially a GIP, because I feel like it.
