Note to self: Do not go immediately from reading discussions of The Girl in the Fireplace to one of your HPS readings on time travel (specifically, on personal vs external time). It makes you start thinking extremely stupid things. Like, that writing your subject paper on personal and external time, as demonstrated in this episode of Doctor Who might actually be a good idea. *facepalm*

And, the other big thing coming up is Torchwood, which is on tonight (UK time, anyway). Which, through my cunning means of time conversion, means that it'll be on from 6am to 7:40, local time. Add in a few hours for it to get online, and then a couple of hours waiting, and I am, shall we say, somewhat skeptical about whether I could obtain it before heading off to Uni.

So, after Uni it is. And, considering the way I expect my flist to go, means I shall have to be avoiding LJ for most of tomorrow. Oh well.

ETA: How does one decide which music to leave off their iPod? Yeah, I have three gig too much to have it all on there, but I love it all! Admittedly, I probably couldn't identify half of it, but what if I feel like listening to that exact song on the tram tomorrow? (Yes, I am the kind of person whose bags are always crammed full of useless junk, just in case I need it. And I never throw anything out)

I feel guilty about leaving songs off. As if they aren't good enough for me. *emos*

If it any comfort, I fully expect my digibox to break in solidarity. It does that.

so, 9 pm in the UK is 10 pm for me, two eps, time it takes the Brits to upload the eps, the time I'll need to download it... uh, I'm guessing I'll have it at 5 am. Which fits nicely because I have to get up for uni at 7 am

Fandom is killing me

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I shall try and be comforted by this. I am not sure how it is comforting, but I am sure it must be in some way.

Fandom isn't too bad for me, really, as I manage to get things by early afternoon. It's just that I have classes this week...

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Be happy. I've never been in any fandom that hasn't frelled with my sleep yet. Maybe I should start to watch German TV productions for a change...

*shudders*

That idea scared me very much

This sounds familiar... Of course, I could just decide to wait until wednesday and watch it on BBC 2...

Naaah....

I have never seen any German television, ever. Admittedly, it's because I don't speak German, but still...

Well, 'Der Clown' had its moments.

But that's about what I can come up with for interesting German shows, yes. Although there are probably some copies of British quiz formats floating around as well. Those could be interesting, maybe.

YOU GET BBC 2?!

And I was only jealous because you get all the things subbed and not dubbed ^^

What could possibly be more comforting than the suffering of others? "There are starving children in Africa? Good point, Mother! More cabbage please!"

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

You know 'Der Clown'? *boggles*

I've always been more of a 'Alarm für Cobra 11' girl, but when they changed the main characters for the hundreth time and packed even more car explosions into it I lost interest a bit ^^

*snerk*

I didn't mind cabbage. Now, tomatoes, you can't get me to eat those on pain of death.

Yup, most areas get BBC1 and BBC2. Had I had digital, and the extended subscription, it is even possible in most areas of .nl to get BBC3 and BBC4. Unfortunately, nobody of my acquaintance has decided to splash out for that.

I will eat them as fruit but consider their soggy sandwich appearance to be EVIL. And fried? What unholiness is that?

You really only missed bad acting and lots of bad plot

You have no idea how much I enjoy staying in a dutch hotel just for the TV ^^

Will probably be in Utrecht later this year, so tell me: Do you have Who already?

Was broadcast here in .nl on one of the commercial channels (in German, with subtitles. That sort of thing works both ways). It had a little bit of angstyness and a person with a secret identity. How could I resist? :-)

I've heard of 'Cobra 11', but I've never watched it. Any good to start with?

How do you mean that?

The Eccleston season has been broadcast earlier this year, partially overlapping with the broadcast of DT on the Beeb. I haven't heard anything else about when the next one will be broadcast, but it's entirely possible the same thing will happen again.

The first two or three seasons or so were okay, I think with 'Der Clown' it's still the show with the biggest budget (judging by the amount of cars they still destroy ^^). Clown even had a movie some time back, hadn't seen it yet. But Cobra's stories are usually not as good as the Clown's, but still the usual police stories (drugs, robberies, kidnappings)

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Veeeery good. That means I'll probably be able to get some reasonably priced merchandise :)
xwingace: (Default)

From: [personal profile] xwingace

Ah, but with hotels you could have bad luck and get one that decided to not subscribe to a basic cable package (which all include BBC1&2), and instead went for an international news package (which has BBC1 if you're lucky but most likely only BBC World). The selection of channels in one hotel like that boggled me extremely. (Not even Dutch channels beyond NL1).

Ah, well, then it would at least require a somewhat interesting lead. And it's hard to get me interested when the lead is speaking German (not impossible, as Der Clown 'proves', but hard).

*Helps you hope*

I still intend to dig out a HQ cap somewhere, print it out and have it transferred to a T-Shirt (just one, and just for personal use), because I don't think I've actually seen any Who merchandise yet. Then again, I haven't really looked all that closely.

XWA

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

The leads... oh.. as I said, they change a lot, it's always been two (not entirely ugly) men up to now, with Semir staying longest, his partner changed twice IIRC. They're in season 14 by now and it's really your decision but his partner at the moment is quite cute ^^

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I just really can't stand tomatoes. In any form. It's an odd thing about me.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

I saw a thread on the OG where you could print out a very simple TARDIS shape for a t-shirt. I think I'll do that :)

I'm hoping for the merchandise every year now, being on that Jaarbeurs thingy. I have slightly better chances if it has already been on dutch TV

*crosses fingers*

I doubt you will find any and if you do it will probably be expensive. The only thing I have been able to find in Holland were 4 DVDs of the fourth Doctor for 15 euro.
xwingace: (sinfest)

From: [personal profile] xwingace

That's about all I've found, too. Mind you, that 15 Euros for four stories is *really* *cheap*. To import these things from the UK (which gets you English subs instead of Dutch ones, but the releases are otherwise the same) costs double that for *one* story.

It's not quite as bad as for Red Dwarf, the fist season of which was released on DVD in .nl. Price ~10 Euro. No other seasons have so far been forthcoming. Price for an imported season: ~35 Euro. I love RD. I am not made of money. And the same goes for Jonathan Creek, BTW.

Maybe there will be some stuff now that the Sinterklaas catalogues are coming out. But I really doubt it. DW doesn't seem to have made much of an impact on the Dutch kiddies.

Omg you should so write the paper on that topic. and if you do I'd like to read it. XD

Yeah, I have that problem with my ipod too. I dither over taking songs off because what if I want to listen to it at one point? But I solve it partly by going through my main playlist and ranking all of them, then deleting songs that are only 1 or 2 stars, and partly by thinking, have I actually listened to this song lately, or have I just mostly skipped past it when it comes on? I can always add it back later if I have the urge to listen to it, like I did with Magic Dirt. :3

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

At the moment it's just my brain being cracked out.

The problem is, I have over 4000 songs to go through. And it's only, what, 3500 that fit on my iPod. And I am too lazy to rate them all.
