I've had three cans of energy drink today, and I can still barely keep my eyes open.

That's just not right.

CHAS tabling was reasonable - not nearly as members as the last few years, alas, but I don't know if that's a clubs wide trend, or just us. The other Second Floor tables seemed pretty similar in numbers, so maybe it was across the board.

Day started of terribly disorganised, but things improved after a bit. As always, the sherbet bombs were popular. As was my Dalek, for that matter.

I also did my own circuit of the club tables, so I'm all signed up for assorted Second Floorish goodness this year.

In other news, I have actually seen this week's Torchwood ep, A Day in the Death.

I actually thought it was a great improvement on last weeks episode. Might have liked a bit more Martha, but otherwise thought it was quite good - I rather liked it.

Oh, and one spoilery comment:
Was really quite pleased that they actually kept zombified Owen. It would have been a bit of a waste of three episodes to do otherwise, but yeah, quite pleasing.

Huzzah for zombie!Owen.

Also, I note that though they haven't gone for the full on Nicky-from-Felix-Castor gradual decay thing, they have gone for the all wounds he gets remain forever. So even if he doesn't mysteriously run out of energy, sooner or later his body will just fall apart out of damage.

...Bets on if they forget about the broken finger/cut hand thing, or just resolve it by having Owen always wear a glove ala Luke Skywalker?

I'm kind of wondering what they're going to do with Dead!Owen - because having another character who's going to be around forever is kind of weird and the fact he can't engage in physical combat in case he gets bruised or broken is going to be pretty limiting, I'd have thought...

Ep needed MORE Martha/Tosh, and more Martha/Jack snoggage !

From: [identity profile] koshiroryuu.livejournal.com

I really liked this one a lot, it made me cry and everything. Not that that's difficult, as you know, but still. In fact, the only thing I didn't like about it was that they included the scene with the spray in the montage, because honestly they should know how people feel about that by now, and they didn't even give him dialogue about how he knows he's an asshole when they showed it, so there's yet another lost opportunity gone.

Still, though, that was my only tiny quibble, and everything else was wonderful, and Burn Gorman is awesome, and I think I actually really like Owen now and almost don't even feel guilty for it. And plus he's still a zombie! God, that must suck for him. Fun!

I wonder if they're going to keep him at the hub now and have Ianto do the field work in his place since he's all fragile and stuff. It would seem logical, at least until he's cured (it's inevitable, it's only been delayed a while), but Torchwood isn't always good with the logic, so we'll see.

NEEDS MORE MARTHA/TOSH. I am extremely upset that she wasn't in the goodbye scene. How awkward was that Martha/Jack kiss, though? AWKWARD.

In short, LOVE. OMG. Completely made up for the relative weakness of last week, I think. MARTHA JONES MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I honestly have no idea.

It does mean an end to playboy!Owen, though, which I hardly think is a bad thing.

I was surprised that Tosh wasn't at the Martha goodbye scene, I must say. That was just... random. And yeah, I know Jack was a bit stunned by the snog. But he totally should have grabbed her after for the classic movie snog, just to be charming and Jack-like.

I'm happy at the thought of no more Playboy!Owen (did like Martha's "stiffening" question - made me giggle!snort rather a lot !)

The lack of Tosh for the goodbye scene was weird - and I totally agree he should have snogged Martha back...

All in all, I can't help feeling that two of the three eps were wasted where Martha's concerned.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Given even Burn has commented on the negative response that scene got, I'm actually quite surprised it was included.

I've always thought Burn Gorman was the best actor of the lot. And yes, I love the idea of zombie!Owen. There should be lots of crackfic about Owen craving BRAIIINS!

...You know, I never thought of the Owen-Ianto role reversal before. That's quite clever.

I wondered why Tos wasn't at the goodbye scene. Given the way everyone else was, it seemed... odd. And I'm surprised at the awkwardness of the kiss, since Jack and Martha seem so comfortable together.

Yes, I do think it was much better than last weeks. Which in retrospect now looks like the had the "making Owen zombified" plot point to do, and then just tossed some random filler to kill time.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Oh, Martha.

I wouldn't call them wasted. I would have liked a bit more focus on Martha, but we still got to see Martha being all shiny and competent and medical-like (which there was a distinct lack of in Who)

Also, the ending seemed almost like a set-up for a return. Is it too early to call Martha being in at least one episode next series?

I just called that over on the LoM discussion thread... In fact, I'm wondering if she's going to go to TW permanently (maybe make her a UNIT liaison?)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I can't really see her being permanent - not unless Burn Gorman leaves, anyway.

But I can certainly see her as a recurring character, ala Rhys or something.

Who knows - I don't try to figure out the workings of RTD's brain 'cos it makes MY brain hurt !

Which in retrospect now looks like the had the "making Owen zombified" plot point to do, and then just tossed some random filler to kill time.

"Okay, we've got an incredible opening, and this really wonderful and deep ending, looks like we're all set for Martha's three... wait. Three? OH, CRAP, WHERE'S THE MIDDLE? There's all this explaining to do! I'M NO GOOD AT EXPLAINING! WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO? ACK!"

"Well, there's always that guy who wanted to write for Buffy, for some reason he just won't stop calling ever since he heard James Marsters was gonna be on. Maybe we could get him to recycle some of that devil crap from 'Satan Pit' or something?"

"GREAT! YES! Throw in a bit of crap CGI and some age makeup and I'M SOLD."

"We buy age makeup by the bucket, boss. We know how you love the stuff."

"AWESOME. How about maid's uniforms? Can we work in some maid's uniforms?"

"Hmm... that might be difficult. How about the disembodied hand schtick again?"

"YES! I AM THE GREATEST WRITER EVER OMG! Just, y'know, remember to put some plot in there or something, maybe, and don't forget to explain how Owen's a zombie now. Just half-ass it if you have to, they'll buy it. Oh, and Tarot cards! A creepy little girl playing with Tarot cards! I WANT ONE!"

"You got it, boss!"

"I AM AWESOME. I LOVE THIS JOB."

From: [identity profile] marymac.livejournal.com

And I'm surprised at the awkwardness of the kiss, since Jack and Martha seem so comfortable together.
Really? I wasn't, it looked very much like because Jack was having a bit of a 'Martha's kissing me. Martha kissing me. But, wait, no, THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT GOES!' As in, not that he wouldn't, but its not her that he thinks would start it. And then isn't entirely sure what to do with it. I mean, he never ever has the moves put on him by someone else. He probably doesn't know how to cope with it anymore.

(Also suspect that the year-that-never-was thing has made her one of the few people who he wouldn't dream of chasing the way he does pretty much everything else that moves.)

From: [identity profile] in-the-end.livejournal.com

And wasn't it fantastic? *is gleeful*

Personally, I thought we'd get a lot less Martha action so I was rather pleased.

I just hope that she's as kick ass when she returns in Who.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Given the comments about Martha hardly being in the episode, I was, like you, somewhat surprised at what we got. And pleased we didn't get another stupid excuse to sideline her.

I suspect her Who appearance will be somewhat less medical, but kick-ass in other ways. And there will be that point when the Doctor and Martha discuss him getting her the UNIT job, which I am so looking forward to.

From: [identity profile] hacked2death.livejournal.com

It might be also to set up her return in Who. With all of these guest stars, it'll save Russell having to explain what she's been up to in the meantime.

Well, we've seen Ianto put the moves on him. But good point, otherwise. He looked like his brain had just shut down and he was going WHA?

And you might have point on the year that never was thing.

From: [identity profile] in-the-end.livejournal.com

Yes, there's no way they can brush over that bit.

You know, I’ve got high hopes series 4 might go a long way to fix some of the problems with series 3. I hope I’m not disappointed.

From: [identity profile] marymac.livejournal.com

It wasn hilarious to watch. Jack being surprised to be getting kissed is a new one altogether :)

Well, I've never quite believed that going through the world ending means you're going to be attracted to the people you went through it with. Its a whole different level of binding, I think. Especially, I suspect, for someone like Jack, who isn't so good with the deep emotional attachments.

From: [identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com

They just don't make energy drinks like they used to.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Did you hear that bit a while back where Tennant said something about there being an apology from the Doctor to Martha (not anything individual, but a sort of general sorry-ness). I get a distinct feeling that the UNIT job conversation might be that actual conversation.

I hope you aren't either. I'm just trying to remain neutral so I don't get let down right now.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Ah, but Martha returns in the middle of the series for a few episodes, before the big finale with everyone in it. I suspect we'll get explanations then.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

They were some random Coles Supermarket in-house brand drinks that were being given away for free.

Which probably says a lot.

I must say your Dalek is exceedingly hot and sexy.
