Y HALO THAR ELEVEN!

I have... absolutely no idea who this guy is. Never heard of him before today. But at least I already know what the major source of wank seems to be.

I am mildly disappointed it wasn't anyone I was hoping for, though

I never saw them. I'm not a huge fan of Pullman and I've seen enough Billie Piper for one lifetime.

I have no problem with him as an actor, but isn't he a bit young? It might be okay if they play it as Davisonesque old acting, though.

As soon as they cut to him on Doctor Who Confidential the first thing I said was "I have no idea who he is". And then lept onto IMDB and in fact sort of did as he was in the two Sally Lockheart TV movies. But having seen him talk on Confidential and the clips from his other roles that they showed, I think he's going to be great. He has that indefinable Doctor "look", which that Newsround picture shows I think.

IDK, I never liked Davison. I suppose this will prove if there is such a thing as too young?

I'm not opposed to his look, actually - or the fact they went for an unknown.

I just think he's another dude who'd be perfect in a decade or so.

It really, really will depend on how he's written.

And how he acts, of course. I think he needs to be somewhat less hyper then Ten, if only for contrast. More solemn and slow (though still with funny moments). But I dunno how that would go with Moffat's writing.

I monkey on crack would be less hyper than Tennant though

He is a bit young, yes. But watching him on Confidential (which is definitely worth watching as he says quite a bit - although it was torture for the first half, especially as they kept dropping all these hints) really sold it to me. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I keep seeing Simm!Master in my head looking at him and saying "You're a bloody teenager" then swatting him like a fly.

Hmm, Matt looks a bit like Morrissey in this pic. (Singer, not David Morrissey.)

Well, true.

But the way the Moff wrote Nine also had a lot of, well, nervous energy. If they don't play it different with this kid, he'll look like a Youtube Tennant imitator.

That would be his gothy picture.

Actually, I think I'd like it if they had the ridiculously young kid, and went with all the trad Victorian costume and mannerisms. In sombre colours. That could almost work.

Yes sweetie, but I'm in Australia. Where it is 5:30am. I kinda can't right now.

Oh indeed, I meant when it comes online and in your own time. :)

Definitely needs a more 'serious' manner than Ten (who is a lovable toddler who has had too much sugar.)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Which is my other mild worry. I loved Moffat for Ten, because he did fabulous hyper writing, and Eleven needs to be definitely different and god I hope Moffat pulls it off.

Davison was always my favorite but he's also the first I saw.

This new guy does look young, but I'm happy to give him a chance. I'm sad to lose Tennant, though, since I've enjoyed watching him so much. The comment below about a crack-monkey being less hyper than Tennant amused me.

He's certainly...unique looking, but having seen a couple of interviews with him, I must say that I really like his energy.
I think that he has the potential to be brilliant.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I liked him well enough from what I saw, but I always thought that given the companions and other characters he was surrounded by, he always seemed way too close to fading into the background.

Ten's my favourite Doctor, even if some of the writing in the last season or two has been putting him off for me, but I'll give him a chance. If I am still bothering with Doctor Who by the time he actually shows.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I actually agree with these points, as I have said. I just wish he was a decade or so older.

I've definitely been enjoying Ten the hyperactive and I'll be sad to see him go. But I look forward to meeting Eleven, and hope things go well.
