Okay, that's just plain not fair. Yesterday, I was bouncing around the house and questing down to the Seven-Eleven, and my toe felt fine. Well, not fine, but not really painful.

And yet today, when I have have to do important stuff - like go to Uni - it's hurting again. Stupid foot.

Oh well, I suppose the rest of the day had enough nifty to make up for it.

Said nifty included getting that damn assignment handed in, on time.

And FOUL, which was an experience of joy and crack today. There was messing around with junk and building random machine things!

It was just like being a five year old again, but with extra fire. And time spent trying to work out what the hell a "Zelaton" is.

I had to vanish off to class later on, but I apparently the final results are going to be YouTubed.

Incidentally, exploding rubber bands: Great idea or greatest idea?
Some more from the WTF Universe files: So, today my most recent eBay purchase showed up (a Haruhi Nendoroid, if you were wondering), and I went to leave feedback for the seller.

And apparently, they no longer exist.

See, I could understand vanishing into the aether if they were selling items that never showed up or whatever, but I was going to give them good feedback for fast postage that I wasn't even charged for.

So, that's an epic huh.

And whilst I'm on the srs biznes notes, since my previous attempts on this LJ at finding a child to interview for my Psych report ended in failure, I got permission from my tutor to use notes from someone else's interview. So I spent a while today wandering around suburbia to borrow notes from someone on the subject message board, get their notes photocopied, and then getting their notes back to them before they left.

And then I went to Sugar Ball. Which was... Sugar Ball. Though a bit more Halloweeny than usual.

My costume... wasn't really a costume. It was nice clothes I fekt like wearing (yay new top!) Though with a bit of make-up it became a Bride of Dracula outfit. Because hey, that's what one does on Halloween.

I suck at being photographed )

Most amusing comment on my costume, from random drunk guys driving past: "Trick or treat! Nice boobies!"
([livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's response: "That's what she said!")

And tomorrow I think I'm going to go to that con, Armaggedon, or whatever it's called. And then in the evening, I might go join [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away in summoning Cthulu.
So, today I got hit by a car.

Okay, I'm exaggerating. Today I was swiped by a car because apparently you don't actually need to stop for pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing. Arsehole.

My knee is turning some interesting colours, though.

On a more cheerful note, I seem to have an unexpectedly full social life this weekend.

I mean, today was Silly Night for FOUL - which was rather amusing and, as the name implies, silly.

Then, I ducked out early to go see Melbourne Model: The Musical. Some backstory for people who don't go to Melbourne Uni: The Melbourne Model is a reworking of the course structure at the Uni which has been incredibly controversial with a number of people, especially Creative Arts students. As a result, some have said Creative Arts students decided to protest it's implementation by... writing a musical.

It wasn't actually bad, though it was incredibly un-PC and exeptionally scathing of Glyn Davis and co. Very, very funny though, if in some parts down to the "I can't believe they just said that" factor. I especially liked Sam's Asia number, though the dude playing Glyn was hilarious.

And that was just tonight. Tomorrow I'm somehow trying to work out a way to both attend [livejournal.com profile] connikins's 21st, and catch up with Mum when she is in town for The Sister's birthday (which was today).

And I shall leave you all with an amusing quote from Silly Night:

A girl I don't know (to me): "Excuse me, can I feel your skirt?"
(After feeling my skirt)
"It's just, it feels just like I imagined. Kind of felty. Like Scotland!"
So, today FOUL had a Mad Hatter's Tea Party at lunch.

Which was, basically, live action crack. And thus the sort of thing I think should be done regularly.

I mean, aside from the insistence that everyone involved wear a hat (I brought my own), the excess of balloons that would randomly explode, the tea, the decorated biscuits, the delicious cake, the scones with whipped cream and so on, we also had:

- Guys having competitions to see how much whipped cream they could eat in one go.

- A pinata. Which was made with regular newspaper rather than paper mache, so it ended up less trying to smash it open, and more half a dozen people pounding it into the lump on the floor.

- Pass the parcel. With parcels that fell apart as you passed them, and got thrown at one another, and such thrilling prizes as an inflated balloon, and some soggy marshmallows (Don't ask me how the marshmallows got so soggy because I don't. Want. To. Know.

...Yeah, it was more than a little cracktastic. And terribly, terribly silly.

I deeply approve. More clubs should have them.
So, today there was a black-out at Uni.

As in, during the middle of the day, most of the power at Uni miraculously just... died. No idea why (though I wonder if that building they are demolishing might have some connection).

And where was I the very moment the lights all went out?

...At the toilet. YA, RLY.

Of course, naturally I didn't actually get to enjoy any of the advantages of said blackout, what with my Research Methods tute being in the Redmond Barry building, which naturally was completely fine during said blackout.

Not like, say, the Chem students, whose entire building got evacuated because the fume cabinets stopped working.

...And that was my excitement for the day. The rest of it consisted of getting my extension form (So I have til next Monday to complete that assignment), and Star Trek Club, which consisted of watching an episode of Stargate, and (as always) some Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, which is as funny as ever.

And now for something completely different: Yet another update to the unending Harry Potter Lexicon wank
See, I could theoretically post some comment on this weeks Doctor Who (which I have actually seen and all that) but, well, I'm not going to.

Because I'm lazy like that. And I have other stuff that I've been meaning to post about, and have been putting off.

So, I shall perhaps post on it at some other point. Or not.

Instead: RL Stuffs!

To start off with, Friday was the Second Floor Slave Auction thing. Which was interesting, though it must be sad not as much so as past years (Also, as our dear Auctioneer [livejournal.com profile] becker_ commented, everyone was very cheap this time around.

Anyhoo, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and I purchased Sheridan as a House Elf for the iPartment. And I got [livejournal.com profile] connikins, who is going to be making me jewellery once she's back in Melbourne. Oh, and I got bought by [livejournal.com profile] altheas (No RobCorp this time around, alas).

There was some amusing stuff, mind - bids of e and Pi for one. Also, a round of applause when bidding got to $42 (Naturally).

Also: Gratuitous appearances of Mongo the Gender Neutral Gorilla.

This was supposed to just be a photo of Tristan's totally pimptastic outfit... )

Notable sales included Tom's Amazing Pockets, [livejournal.com profile] chifley's Hat (Yes, that hat), the C and S Penguin. And Mongo, of course.

And of course, since no Slave Auction post would be complete without it, a collection of quotes I recorded on the night.

Just call me quote recorder, extraordinare )

...And that was my Friday Night.

On Saturday Night I went to my cousin's engagement party. Which was not so much a social event (since I knew like none of her friends) as it was an occasion to catch up with Teh Extended Family and all their gossip and so on.

Not that's there is much of a difference, once you've had five glasses of champagne and are attempting to liberate balloons into the open sky.

*coughs* Moving on...

Apparently, this has been the weekend for awesome movie trailers. There's the fabulous new Dark Knight one, as well as the equally fabulous new Indiana Jones one.

Also, I have a new haircut. *\o/*
So, today we explored the political situation of Joe Nap A.

[livejournal.com profile] chifley was the US, and Vidya was a deposed dictator. Laura was the UN, [livejournal.com profile] ranorith was Gaia, and I was a Third World country. Apparently. And then [livejournal.com profile] chifley became the reincarnation of [livejournal.com profile] ranorith

And the dead mouse was... a dead mouse.

Also, the floor was made of lava.

Yeah. FOUL? Is 24 carat crack. Even without alcohol.

Fun, though.

In other news, I bought a couple of CDs. Because the Foo Fighters concert made me realise I didn't have their live album, and then there were a bunch of other things going cheap.

So, I have new music which always cheers me.

ETA: Also, look at my lovely new icon. Ain't it pretty?

Oh, look, that cool change people had been promising finally managed to show up. About damn time.

Anyway, about Uni - Today was Ye Olde CHAS AGM.

Bad parts about this were that someone attempted to put their chair on my foot, and thus I now have a foot filled with owieness, and some potentially rather fascinating bruises in the works.

On the plus sides, CHAS was as cracktastically silly as ever. And there was pizza.

A couple of quotes from the AGM:

Piper: "Callum's reign of terror is over!
Piper's reign of terror is about to begin!"
(After Piper was elected President for the next year)

[livejournal.com profile] becker_: "Stop stroking the pizza!"

In actual class type news my first assignment for the semester (for Research Methods) is due in tomorrow. However, I have already finished it, so it's all good.

Oh, and I think my Creative Writing Tutor is attempting to scar me for life. She made us watch Un Chien Andalou.

*shudders*
Can't be arsed posting about classes today, as they were boring.

So, instead, I shall talk about lunch-time, aka Star Trek Club.

We watched Trials and Tribblations, which I approved of immensely, being a fan of Tribbles.

I also concluded that whatshisface, Sisko, had a huge crush on Kirk. Of course, when I pointed this to people, I got told off for slashing during Star Trek Club. ;_;

Oh, and I appear to be in a rather odd mood right now (aside from my randomly sore neck - I feel like I've pulled a muscle or something, but I haven't a clue what happened).

Case in point: I was watching this fanvid (multi-fandom, mostly movies everyone has seen), and ended up bursting into a tears.

I mean, yeah it's a decent vid, but it's not that spectacular. It was just... nostalgia. And my odd mood.

Eh. Anyone got anything glee-promoting they could link me too? I could use some cheer.
I've had three cans of energy drink today, and I can still barely keep my eyes open.

That's just not right.

CHAS tabling was reasonable - not nearly as members as the last few years, alas, but I don't know if that's a clubs wide trend, or just us. The other Second Floor tables seemed pretty similar in numbers, so maybe it was across the board.

Day started of terribly disorganised, but things improved after a bit. As always, the sherbet bombs were popular. As was my Dalek, for that matter.

I also did my own circuit of the club tables, so I'm all signed up for assorted Second Floorish goodness this year.

In other news, I have actually seen this week's Torchwood ep, A Day in the Death.

I actually thought it was a great improvement on last weeks episode. Might have liked a bit more Martha, but otherwise thought it was quite good - I rather liked it.

Oh, and one spoilery comment:
Spoilers, duh )
So, I've worked out what the hell happened to my comment notifications: Somehow LiveJournal ended up on my Blocked List. Haven't the faintest idea how that happened, but it is fixed now. I think. I need someone to comment so I can check. ;)

In other technological news, my iPod is now actually half full. Yes, that 80 gig iPod I got late last year. That's a whole lotta music...

And to add something actually, you know, important to this post: I won't be posting my normal Torchwood episode review tomorrow. Or any other TV review type discussy thing, unless they are brief. That is because I have actual, genuine, Real Life commitments that require being away from the computer for Thursday and Friday.

However (and this is relevent to those of you at Melb Uni. Or even just those in Melbourne), said commitments are to be helping out CHAS and other Second Floor type clubs' tables during O-Week.

So, if you want to come see me, say howdy be introduced to my remote control Dalek or whatever, check out the concrete lawns at Melbourne Uni between 12 and 4 tomorrow, and I should be somewhere around the CHAS table (It shouldn't be hard to find, lots of yellow and all that). If I'm not there, I won't be far away, so send me a text or something.

Like I said, this applies to both Melbourne Uni people whom I shall shamelessly pressure into joing CHAS or just other Melbourne types I know online.

...It's vaguely unnerving to consider, but I'm almost one of the Old School Second Floor people now. That's freaky.
WTF IS GOING ON WITH MY COMMENT NOTIFICATIONS?

NOT AMUSED, LJ. NOT AMUSED.

On a less angry note, what stuff do you want me to bring for the CHAS and/or any other tables you want me to help out on Thursday or Friday, [livejournal.com profile] tinyteddyqueen? I'll probably have a dressing gown stashed in my bag because, you know, CHAS, but anything else you'll need to let me know about.
[livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha is running another friending meme, since it's been a while since the last one, and what with Martha's Torchwood appearances and everything.

So, if you like Martha and want some new people on your flist, go on, check it. *pimp pimp pimpity pimp*

...And apart from that there hasn't been a real lot going on in my life this weekend. I mean, coming up is O-Week, so I'll have to toddle over to Uni and sign up for my clubs for the year - speaking of, clubs people, what's going on with the tables? Anyone in need of my help and/or fandom related tat to display?

Oh, and I've been catching myself up on my televisual type media. Go me.

Things I watched:

- Episode Three of Ashes to Ashes.
Which I think is finally starting to find it's groove, actually. At least, it's starting to gel properly for me. The first two eps had potential, but somehow I didn't find them working as well as a whole - some rather jarring swings in tone and so in. This episode seemed much more balanced to me. I mean, it still hasn't achieved the heights of Life on Mars, but it's much better to watch in my opinion.

- The Pilot of Being Human.
Which, to my mild amazement, actually lived up to the reputation that my flist had of it. Mostly, anyway. I think I shall be rather cross if it isn't picked up for more episodes.

Some actually spoilery thoughts )

- Also, I may have also watched a certain Australian television show that shall not be named for fear of legal action. ;)
drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (Five and Ten In Costume)
( Oct. 23rd, 2007 10:36 pm)
I have a whole bunch of assignments and essays and whatnot due coming up. So, naturally, this post is going to be all about fandom, and random cracktastic stuff I meant to post last week and never got around to.

Thus, in no particularly important order:

1. In a move that has shocked precisely, oooh, no-one, we have Gay!Dumbledore wank. Hopefully the first in a long and fabulously wanky future. Bless you, JKR, for something this marvellous.

2. In another bit of news that has caused fandom to explode - this time positively (for the most part) - that casting spoiler for Doctor Who's Children in Need special this year. Which has gotten me this fab icon, and a great deal of enthusiasm.

And a deep curiosity to that omnipresent Doctor Who question: But is it canon?

3. Last week in Star Trek club we watched some episodes of Banzai, which is cracktastic brilliance. I was mildly disappointed (though not entirely surprised) to find out that it is a spoof. Still cracktastic brilliance though. Naturally, it was courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] becker_'s televisual experiences.

4. Of course, for cracktastic hilarity from that meeting, nothing goes past the Bukkake Milk commercial. Yes, really. I'm fairly certain this is also a spoof, but man, I was almost hyperventilating from laughing so hard.

5. When I was at the Secular Club's AGM (Don't. Ask.), I was informed that their club's main aim was trolling.

I asked (and have been given permission) to troll in their name. *evil laugh*

6. [livejournal.com profile] darthcorrie, you really, really shouldn't have linked me to that site. Now I am working my way through the Death Note manga. I still hate and despise you, I should point out

7. One of the unit's downstairs is being repainted. It is entirely possible to get high off paint fumes just by standing in the hallway.

8. I have found that we shall be staying in this hotel in Thailand.

For those who didn't know: I'm going to Thailand at the end of November. Huzzah!

ETA: Still no comment notifications. *sighs* That's going to hurt when they start showing up.
I've been lazy about updating again. Um, whoops?

Not that I've been doing all that much, for the most part. Fandom's been fairly quiet, daft rumours aside. And Uni has been, well, Uni. Though I haven't any more Psych pracs left this semester. Only lectures for those subjects.

I did have a rather interesting Sociology lecture on Thursday, though, on Aboriginal Embassy in 1972. Though it was probably made more interesting by the fact that our guest lecturer was personally involved in it.

I have to agree with one of is fundamental points, though: There's a hell of a lot of really interesting Australian history that never gets taught or anything. (Case in point: This lecture)

*sigh*

What else? Went and saw Phantom of the Opera last night after Uni. Interestingly enough, though I have the soundtrack and listened to it all numerous times, I'd never actually seen Phantom preformed at all. So, it was interesting.

Quite good, too, even if the performance was delayed because right at the start, something went dodgy with the chandelier (It wouldn't lift. Or something). Certainly makes more sense seen that just listened to. Costumes were fab, also. And unlike [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, I got to see Warlow instead of the understudy as the Phantom.

I will admit to being somewhat surprised at how... textual the Phantom's seduction of Christine was. I'd always assumed it was more subtext than anything else, but watching Music of the Night - and Point of No Return - felt disturbingly like watching foreplay.

Oh, and in a distinct change of tone (and class), tonight was Sugar Ball for FAS. Theme was Discworld, which was fun, even if costumes were rather more simple - mine was Adora Bell, and was basically gray skirt, black top, heels, hair slicked back. And a Chuba-Chub stick as a pseudo-cigarette. (My hair is rather too short to work for Magrat at the moment, alas).

There was some fun to be had, though. A deeply, deeply hilarious Eye of Argon reading, which had most people in utter hysterics. Some very primary school, but fun games. A couple of group races, in which I ended up getting a skinned knee from being dragged along the carpet. And somehow sitting on someone's head at some point.

And the piece de resistance, an Eragon pinata. Because there are few things quite so enjoyable as getting the chance to beat a paper mache Eragon with sticks, and end up with lollies.

Some photographic evidence )

Much fun indeed.

Have been slightly zonked out today, as last night I went to the SCA Midwinter Masquerade. Which was quite a lot of fun, even if me turning up was an incredibly last minute thing (I didn't know it was on until yesterday arvo).

...It's sort of depressing that despite being on the Uni SCA clubs committee, I hear about these things from [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away.

Anyhood, there were pretty, pretty outfits, and dancing about, and some yummy foods (Mmm, deep fried cheese) and Mulled Wine of which I may have had rather too much), and all in all was a fun night.

And that was yesterday.

Today? Was Doctor Who.

My thoughts:

OMG HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!

And I say this as someone who was completely spoiled for it all, it was still damned fun and entertaining, and I can't stop watching the last couple of minutes of it.

Also, One ickle spoiler )

IS IT NEXT WEEK YET? PLEASE?
So, I was at the CHAS barbecue today, and at the end of it, after we were hiding from the rain, I noticed that my umbrella (Not the freebie one, my folds-up-small one) had apparently started leaking - or something some flourescent green stuff.

So apparently the successor to Zagreus the Vampiric Umbrella is a radioactive mutant. Any suggestions for names?

And I don't even want to think of what the next one might be...

CCM was all about video games and iPods today - last classes for the semester, you see. Which reminded me that come a week, and Caspar (my iPod) shall be 3 year old. Got a lot of use, the poor thing. No wonder it looks so battered. Least it still works fine.

Also, note to self: get cracking on research for CCM essay (On online fandom as being an extension of older fandom types.)

And, disturbingly enough, the end of this week sees me having something of a social life. *shock horror*

Wednesday's that cocktail whatsit that CHAS is connected with, Thursday I'm seeing POT3 with [livejournal.com profile] connikins and co, Friday's Bistromathics, and Saturday sees a repeat viewing of POTC3 (this time with [livejournal.com profile] princesslaurene and... other co)

When did I actually start having a social life? *boggles slightly*
Over the last two days, I've had my first lectures for my other subjects this semester. Tuesday saw Developmental Psych, in which I discovered that later this semester I shall have to obtain a small child to perform an experiment on.

And today was Media, Politics and Society, in which very little subject matter was actually covered, but it certainly sounded interesting. We did have an amusing moment, though, when the audience was asked to give things that the media was used to supply, someone shouted out "Truthiness!"

Another Neuro lecture, too, which had it's own amusements.

The Lecturer (when discussing ethics in animal research at Melb Uni): "We swapped from animals, and now only use First years."

(On the subject of Neuro, I'm trying to decide if I should my obtained copy of Recovery before or after our next lecture, in which we discuss brain damage and it's effects on behaviour)

Attended Star Trek Club's first thing for the year, and thus got to witness most of the first Trek movie. And Spock and Kirk's amazing gay love.

Oh, and got meself subscriptions to the Age and the Herald Sun. Because without actual newspapers, I have a distinct tendency to lose track of current news, and thus over holidays my knowledge of current events tends to extend only to what's shown up on LJ ie. Fandomness and dead celebrities.

Onto fandomliness, it appears that we have an official start date for S3 of Doctor Who - 31st March. And lo, the fandom did squee.

There's also some good stuff in the new DWM, which I hope actually arrives for me (grumbles about things getting lost in the mail) New pictures, preview of the first ep, episode titles - one of which I took a wild leap of mental association, and thus am somewhat squeeful about - more later, perhaps.

Over at the OG, people have been posting bits of stuff from it, including some Martha dialogue I quite like. Once there's a bit more, I'll go post it over to [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha. And thus my diabolical scheme to get more people to join that comm via posting S3 news there exclusively continues...
And ye olde Uni has started up all over again. Today I had one Behavioural Neuroscience lecture, and a bunch of stuff for Contemporary Culture and Media. CCM looks to be terribly fun and interesting, in that mildly pretentious way that a lot of Arts subjects seem to have.

Also, for one of our assessment tasks, we have to keep a blog. THE HORROR! *chuckles*

And Neuro's not bad at the moment, though I shall have to try and memorise all the different parts of the brain and their functions so I don't get too horribly confused. However, since we're currently doing historical theories of how the brain works (which are interestingly wacky), I have a bit of time to do so.

Oh, I just realised I never commented on O-Week and the CHAS table. Things went reasonably well, I do believe - there were less people around than last year, plus the whole Union thing causing weird price alterations. But we still managed to get about 90 members, which is pretty damn good. Though I had hoped for 100

But how could we not do well, when our t-shirts had something as truly awesome on them as this... )

Some Quotes of amusement:

[livejournal.com profile] chifley: "I had sex with your mother, and it was unsatisfying."

My CCM lecturer: "For those of you who aren't aware, the Sony Walkman was what we had before we had iPods."

ETA:
drakyndra is happy.
You're a rosy-cheeked ray of f'ing sunshine 24/7. I bet you smile a lot and little things don't get you down. Must be nice. Fuchsia's definitely your color.
wanna know your lj's moodring color? enter your user name and hit the button. (discussion thread)

It's like it knows me!
There's something terribly odd about having someone whom you have in the past disagreed with, fandom-wise, to the point that you classify them in the batshit category saying to you, "Yes, I believe you're right."

Weird.

On fannish oddness, manips of amusingness, and the fic what inspired them. Because the victims of character-bashing for killing off batshippers dreams really ought to stick together. Especially when they are awesome.

In RL news, I must get into Uni to speak to someone about this semester's enrollment, since only three of the four subjects I've listed have shown up. At least my time-table seems to work okay, though. Even if I might want to switch pracs so my Thursdays are less excessively busy.

Maybe I'll toddle in tomorrow. And then go pester The Sister in her O-Weekness. I should get into some decent sleeping hours before Uni starts next week...

Oh, and I have been requested to bring copious amounts of Doctor Who stuff for the CHAS table. Current list: My remote control Dalek, TARDIS USB hub (because that's just cool), a pile of DWMs and that Tom Baker scarf (on specific request).

So them, and me (in a dressing gown, of course), shall be around the clubs and societies tables, Thursday and Friday, from about 10 to 3ish.

On that note, shame on you all for not giving me any quote suggestions to stickerise!
