From the people who brought you [livejournal.com profile] scifi_hate (which is starting to get into some good bitching on page three, anyway), we have: [livejournal.com profile] dw_hate.

An entirely Doctor Who hate meme. *dies*

I even rate a mention. But not in a hatey way, just commenting on my killing of Snarry.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] rose_goes types? We rate a mention. You know you have it made when someone starts bitching about your comm.

And it's totally lame as fuck.

Lamer than fuck, you can fuck sans legs if you're creative - or on the bottom.

Re: Doctor Who hate meme

I find the whole thing hilarious. But that may be because I haven't exactly done enough to earn much hate, and so the whole thing is just a big joke to me.

Re: Doctor Who hate meme

It's not even really hateful. It's just kind of barely snarky. It's the fandom equivalent of saying somebody's butt is too big.

New Who, however, has a real hardon for Tennant (and not in a good way). I like T&C because most of the fans are fairly sensible and have an ironic distance (they know this whole thing is silly)

The other problem with Doctor Who hate is that the BNF's haven't appeared yet. There's a lifespan to *popular* Internet fandoms and Who hasn't quite gotten there yet. There aren't enough celebufans to point fingers at.

Dude, I survived the alt.x.files flamewars of '97, the shipper wars, the Buffy resurrection of Season 6, the Spike/Soul wars, the Seeing Red wars, the Opening of the Hellmouth, and the Why the Hell do they light Marsters so badly on Angel debacle. This is NOTHING.

Re: Doctor Who hate meme

I think that's why it's so funny now - it's just so very petty. It's like watching a couple of siblings whine about each other to their parents.

And Doctor Who is a bit odd in that because the lines of fan and creator were so thinly drawn for so many years, so much of the fandom-type hate gets channelled into people actually involved in the canon. The OG forums got shut down for days when Eccleston quit because the mods couldn't cope with all the abuse he was getting, and everyone in the production team got abuse about it - Rob told me even he got hate mail.

And I am somewhat familiar with your involvement with the BtvS fandom. I read some of your fic, actually, when I was an ickle thing just discovering smutty fanfics.

And of course the people doing the show now *are* fans and they don't like having their fandom get dissed either.

At least you don't have people on the hate meme going around saying that if you like Ten you're agreeing to RAPE. That was a headache. That was not a good time to be a Spike fan.

somewhat familiar

Oh hon, I date back to the X-Files where I was one of the T Rexes of BNF's! I've been in fandom in one form or another for (gulp) thirty years now, almost as long as I've been alive. Longer if you can count my four year old fangirling of Mickey Mouse!

:::is old:::

I swore I wouldn't play that hate game after the Spike debacle. At the end of the day, there's a bunch of people working on the show doing their JOB and a good portion of what happens isn't tied in to one person. If I don't like Tennant's line reading, I remember that it's a LINE READING and just relax. I don't turn into Ten h8!

Although, I have to admit, I do like smacking the living shit out of rude fans.

Re: lines of fan and creator

Oh yes. There's been some verybitchy comments about the series from some people formerly involved. There is wankiness, but it's less fans, and more realish, it seems.

And I was a Spike fan. However, I only read fanfic, and had no involvement in fandom otherwise. Which probably kept me sane.

You make me feel like such a n00b.

And I try to keep perspective on things. Which means a lot of pointing and laughing. And, yes, occasionally wanting to hit people.

That's just people.

The Doctor Who hate meme is starting to get a bit nasty, with everyone heaping on one or two writers, whose only offense seems to be that they're extremely prolific and they crosspost.

Mind you, they have just a smidgen of a point, but that's what the scroll wheel or the space bar are for, people!

I stayed out of that one. I can see why cross-posting annoys (but I get a bunch of JF feeds, which are even more of a pain, so I'm used to it), but it's no reason to call someone a bitch.

Actually, I think that's what's going on with most of that - people have a slight point in a lot of cases, but it gets so ramped up that it starts to seem unpleasant.

I'm just keeping an eye on it for the extreme silliness in some threads.

We're in the fandom that pretty much invented fandom. I expected it to be much more explosive than it actually is. It makes me sad that it's all so tame.
