Um, I started writing up some seriously cracked out Doctor Who meta-type stuff (I blame Nos for the idea behind it) but, um, I got bored and stopped. Maybe I'll try again after Army of Ghosts shows?

But it was seriously cracked meta, yo. I was looking up Bible quotes and everything.

On the subject of meta, I have come across someone who read my POV meta and managed to completely miss one of the points I was going for with it, which was that S2 has shown a POV shift away from Rose, and that seeing GitF from her POV? Not what the writers were aiming for. Getting your ickle feelings hurt because you over-identify with a character is your own damn fault.

Also, I have successfully managed to squick myself out terribly when reading a Nine/Rose fic. I can never read Nine/Rose ever again.

I HATE MY BRAIN!

Someone entertain me, plz. *looks pitiful*

I am too morbidly curious for my own sake. What was the fic about?

(As long as it's not the 'Rose, you are my mother!'-fic, that is. *shivers*.)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Actually, the squicking had nothing to do with the fic itself, and everything to do with my brain making a connection I really, really didn't want it to. The fic just triggered it.

Join the Brain Haters Club. I think I kicked mine out a while ago and it's somewhere in Cardiff now, trying to flirt with John Barrowman.

Do I want to know what the Master is doing with my brain?

I always get part way through my meta, and then get really annoyed by it. So I saved it in Word, and might finish it off sometime during the week. Depends on how Army of Ghosts goes.

Was it me? Eep.

Mind you, seeing GitF from Rose's POV is an interesting idea. There is that moment of "the Doctor is worth the monsters", after all.

What squicked you?

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Nah, no-one on my flist is quite that blindly stupid. Also, she wasn't kind enough to comment directly, I only found out her thoughts on it after someone linked me.

I think the main difficulty with seein GitF from Rose's POV is that so little of the actual story has Rose involved. Which is probably why those who over-identify with Rose have difficulty with it, I expect.

The thing that squicked me was my brain making a connection that I really, really wish it hadn't. Nothing to do with the fic, everything to do with my own mental processes.

Oh, good.

That's why a thoughtful story with her POV would be excellent. It would explain her attitude to Mickey, describe her reactions and all the things we didn't see.

That's probably why they over-react to that bit with the waiting, as well. It's not in her POV, so they think the worst.

I am even more curious. Heh.

It would actually be an interesting read. The problem is the only people who seem inclined to write about Rose at that point are the emotastic fanbrats. What I wouldn't give to see someone good take on that challenge.

But you might be right about the reaction.

And do you really want to know? Seriously?

From: [identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com

Mmm. All I've seen for GitF so far is Ten/Reinette. No proper chracter pieces for many of them, much less for Rose.

I hope not.

Um, yes?

(Icon love, btw... no idea where it's from, but it sounds delightfully out of context.)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It depends where you look for GitF. There's a few Ten/Reinette fics, but not nearly as many as there are "Ten goes begging to Rose for forgiveness" ones. Or just plain emo!Rose fics. That said, most of those are pretty terrible, so you are not missing much.

Okay, the story of how I squicked myself: For a long time - and I can probably find evidence for this - I have said that I have difficulty with Nine smutfics, because Nine reminds me of one of my old school teachers. It isn't that strong a similarity, but that haircut, and that fashion sense, but most of all that way of acting... it puts me in mind of this teacher of mine, who was one of my very favourite teachers.

Another thing is that Rose, at times, reminds me a bit of my sister. This is actually a stronger resemblance - they have the same taste in clothes, and a lot of what Rose says I can easily imagine my sister saying.

Well, I was halfway through this Nine/Rose fic, when I went and put these two comparisons together. And then I literally recoiled in horror, because that was NOT a mental image I wanted to have. Ever. And now I can't think about Nine/Rose without having it remind me of my teacher/my sister, and there are no words for how incredibly disturbing that is.

(The icon's a quote from a Harry Potter badfic, found at [livejournal.com profile] babb_chronicles)

Well, I've defriended T&C, so I'm probably not seeing the Ten/Rose begging ones. Ew.

*shakes head* Oh... you poor thing. I've had similar happen, with teachers like characters, but not to that extent. Squick.

(It sounds like them, too.)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

That was probably a good idea. It's entertaining in it's craziness, though.

Personally, I'm just amazed it took me that long to put the two facts together, since they've both been lurking around the back of my mind for months.

It also floods my flist and provides untold double-ups. Otherwise I probably wouldn't mind as much.

Maybe it was just something in the fic, and your subconscious decided it was the right time?
