I don't see what the problem with it is, really; it strikes me as sensible to stop watching something if you no longer enjoy it. I've got some people on friendsfriends who go on after every episode about how much they hate DT's 'panto acting', and horses for courses and all, but I'm not really clear why they are still watching.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

How can they know they won't enjoy it? She won't have her first episode for another nine months.

Leaving because you don't enjoy something is one thing. Deciding you won't like something almost a year before it happens is just plain stupidity.

I actually got into an argument with a troll who was protesting the npot-yet-released Hitchhiker's Guide movie. I dared to suggest that she was perhaps a wee bit premature in forming her opinion of a film based on a single extremely one-sided review.

People are fuckin' idiots.

I wonder if these people are aware that judging without any experience or evidence is the very literal definition of prejudice.

From: [identity profile] gypsyjr.livejournal.com

I dunno. All I know is I was called "catty," which amused me for days. XD

Nice to see our fandom has such open-minded individuals.

From: [identity profile] tavella.livejournal.com

Eh. Might know herself well enough to know what she won't like; I think we can count, for example, on Rose being mentioned very little if at all next year, and probably never after that, and if you like emotional continuity, being asked to immediately (and from the point of view of the show, it's pretty much immediate, within a couple of eps) to forget and reinvest nearly instantly in a new character is harsh.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Well, there's still the Christmas special to be getting on with (I am currently intrigued by how that's going to go, with no companion from the looks of things). And it's still, what, nine months?

Also, I sincerely doubt we are going to told to love her immediately. The Doctor will need to get to know her, and so shall the audience. But to do that, she needs to be given a chance.

*loves our fandom*

I want someone to label her a poodle or a coke bottle or a ferret so I can start laughing some more. At the moment I've no problem with her, I thought her acting was rather good in DW.

It's going to be several months of wank, isn't it? Just like the David Tennant wank last year, and I did enjoy that, being on the winning side and all.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's entertaining now, but I'm going to get seriously pissed if I see a lot of bashing. Walk-outs are just amusing, going around saying how crap she will be isn't.

And yes, the wank shall be epic. And unlike with the Ten!wank, it's not going to get resolved at Christmas.

From: [identity profile] doona-rose.livejournal.com

I shall ignore all the bashing. Like I did last time. I'll live in a quiet little happy place of fandom where everyone loves everyone and we simply speculate on the state of play, only occasionally straying into the real wank. Becuase I'm a scaredy cat.

So we're going to have to wait until April...that's *counts* nine months. That's lots.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I think I like your fandom happy place. Though I think I like having a few stupids around, for the point and laugh factor. On the subject of happy places, [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha. There are icons.

And nine months is a lot of time for crazy to build up. Lots of preconceptions.

From: [identity profile] doona-rose.livejournal.com

Stupids are fun: I think the people responsible for calling Tennant a toad/weasel in last year's wank gave me some of the biggest laughs of the year. I'm almost looking forward to the wank, which is bad of me.

The happy place is amazing. The pictures and icons are all wonderful and I'm already quite liking her. Which is also bad of me. Though I did exactly the same with Tennant. Thank you for linking.

By the end of nine months...there will be a group who love her, a group who hate her and a few intelligent people who remain undecided. Then the first episode will air. How silly are we?

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Yes, there was some lulz from the Tennant-bashers. I also got into a few flame wars, so we shall just pass on by that...

Nos decided to set the comm fast, so we could have somewhere safe for pictures and squee, and just generally hang out looking forward to seeing Martha. And once next series starts, there shall be porn.

And we are very, very silly indeed. I am currently going with my usual optimism, and have decided to like her until proven otherwise.

From: [identity profile] doona-rose.livejournal.com

The comm is marvelous: not a word of spite yet, which is impressive.

What do you mean 'once next series starts'? There will be porn as soon as possible. There was Tenth Doctor porn well before the Christmas Invasion. I should know, I wrote some of it. There will be Martha porn very, very soon. There probably already is.

It's taken me half an hour to go from being undecided mostly becuase I don't want to abandon Rose (whom I haven't) to loving her quite badly. She looks good with Tennant, thus, I like her. *is very deep*

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I've seen a few emoing about Rose's departure, and the walk-out promise, and a few mild "I don't like her" things, but nothing too nasty yet. It'll be worse after the finale, when Rose actually bows out, though. Then it's really over, and I expect a few to overreact.

Well, we kinda need to know a bit more about her, before we get Russelled into high heaven

Well, you can love two characters at the same time, it isn't betrayal. But I am with you on the shallow factor, I think she is quite pretty, and looks good with Tennant.

From: [identity profile] doona-rose.livejournal.com

I think, at the moment, people are having difficulty emoing about Rose properly becuase we they don't know how it is she leaves. Or something. That's what's stopping me: I'm too busy trying to work out the how to cry and bitch and moan. That will come later. Once she's gone and we're left with the Doctor and his TARDIS there will be enough emo to last the decade. I will spend a week in mourning and then move on: I'm like that. I think I did that with Nine.

Don't be silly. Make her a character: it's fun to guess and not impossible. Then write porn. Or just write very shallow porn. Or, as some (not me, yet) are doing, just write Doctor-by-himself porn.

I think I'll just like anything that is in a picture with David Tennant's smiling face. Some sort of psychology at work there.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Very true. I think all the emofic will probably give me a headache. And lots of mocking fodder.

I don't like working with the unknown, I'm paranoid about messing up characters. Won't stop me from reading other people's fic, mind

If she makes him happy than she must be good?

From: [identity profile] doona-rose.livejournal.com

Okay, admittedly, I might be writing emo fic. Though…it’s not really emo-fic, it’s more ‘How the hell is Rose going to leave but not die and then what?’ fic that was started weeks ago and is really just an excuse to write David Tennant and Jack prowling around the TARDIS is tight jeans. Honest.

Last time I tried to write a Tennant-inspired Tenth Doctor that people might like…and that sort of worked. I think. I’ll no doubt try to do it again during the big wait. That or write porn. Or both.

I think David Tennant makes everything good. I wonder if he’ll be doing any post-finale new-companion interviews. I’m sure he’d just gush about her given the chance. Which would upset everyone even more.

From: [identity profile] tessavance.livejournal.com

I find myself desperately tempted to poke the extremists on any side of a divide, like the old-skool curmudgeons who scream Timelords don't kiss their companions, people but misspell "Time Lord" and the traumatised little things for whom Doctor Who is meaningless without Rose.

But like the Doctor I shall take the moral high ground as well, 'cos they might be armed as well.

I'll just pretend I'm that happy fandom land too, content in the knowledge that there are Trekkies who wear their uniforms out in public living in Northcote. They're always fun to taunt.
