Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the HP fandom, we have... A Bad Penny write up of the Cassie Claire plagiarism fiasco.

Oh boy. I think The Shit is about to get very up close and personal with The Fan.

*gets out popcorn*

ETA: And the next section's up.

A rather interesting quote that gave me an amusing mental image: fanfiction.net's policy says "no second chances."

ETA2: Anonytrolls! The start of any good wank

ETA3: Section Three Up!

Scene that must be written: Rose strolls into the TARDIS and discovers the Doctor hard at work, modding ff.n....

this is so sad. But it makes me want to read those Pamela Dean books

I think that icon says it all - you just want to give him a hug, the poor woobie.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

He has such big puppy dog eyes, just like Tennant :)
The books in question are quite cheap, maye I'll have at them... although the summary at amazon sounds a bit like Jumanji to me *facepalms*

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

You gotta love someone with nice eyes.

I can't be bothered buying them or anything, but I might check them out if I see them in a library or something.

From: [identity profile] jonquil.livejournal.com

They're nothing at all like Jumanji; they're richer and stranger and predate it by quite a bit.

I'm slowly developing a crush on Five, he's so cute

Hey "Doctor Do-Me Davison" drop-kicked me through puberty!

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

His era as Doctor had finished before I was even born! *feels very young*

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

I am very jealous of everybody who had the chance to watch the Doctor while growing up :)

From: [identity profile] yattara.livejournal.com

Wow, talk about overload. I haven't been this overwhelmed with fandom-wank since the Ms Scribe-saga.

Oy vey.

*keeps reading.*

It is fascinating stuff, isn't it?

From: [identity profile] yattara.livejournal.com

Yeah, since I gathered CC still has a lot of clout in the fandom. Or am I just showing my n00bishness with that remark?

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

She has her lingering fame and reputation, but after the whole plagiarism thing that got a great big hole in it, and the HeidiPatrol stuff took a lt more away. She's a lot less important than she once was.

I am smugly smirking here. And about ready to find Draco Dormiens and highlight all the RD quotes.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

If you do, save it and email a copy to the woman writing this, I'm sure she'll apprectiate it.

I don't know if I can bring myself to do it, is the only thing -- because it'd mean I'd have to read the fucking thing.

I mean, I did read a bit of it, way back when I was looking for Draco/Harry stuff, but I got irritated at the fact that I, a person who doesn't even watch Buffy, could recognise the Buffy quotes. And it was still on FF.N, and I got sick of reading reviews that were praising her witty dialogue, and quoting examples, and those examples were quotes she'd ripped off from someone else.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Well, she definitely got called on some of that when ff.net blacklisted her.

Yeah. Best thing the Pit of Voles ever did.

(Worst thing they ever did was ban me for leaving NC-17 stuff up after the NC-17 ban. XD)

I mean, yeah. We're fan fiction authors, so to a degree we're all guilty of plagiarism of characters... but ripping off someone's work and presenting it as her own? That's what gets my goat.

I discovered via comments that one possible reason this history is going up now is that CC posted the last chapter of Draco Veritas... something like six years after she started it. Now, I've had WIPs go on a bit, but my longest was two years, and... and I'm not going to rant about her any more on your journal. Sorry.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

No, feel free to rant away, I don't mind. And I was boggling a bit about the 6 year WIP - I mean, I think I can remember when she just started the second one, and that was ages ago.

I'm reading the second link of stuff now. Heh. I remember FFN-Slashers-Unite. I used to be a member of that, until FF.N kicked me off. (I put my 'NC-17' stuff up under an R rating after they auto-deleted all the NC-17 entries, and evidently someone dobbed me in for having it, because I doubt the mods go through every fic to weed out the pr0n. I'm still pissed off that I lost all my reviews, but I'll live.)

You know what pisses me off? How people think the VSDs are so brilliant, and how CC wouldn't let anyone else continue them... and how they were totally imitations of Bridget Jones's Diary, and that diary format is sooo original anyway...

o_O Draco Veritas involves Sirius/Narcissa? Way to go.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

The Bridget Jones's Diary thing - I can't see how she could stop anyone continue them. I mean, all she did was take one fandom and put it in the style of another, which is hardly new. Or, for that matter, highly original.

DV got jossed liek whoa by OotP. But then, a lot of things did. Which caused some measure of the outrage surrounding it, I am sure.

I didn't mind OotP except for the CAPSLOCK OF RAGE. It got on my nerves.

Sirius/Narcissa, though, was illogical even before OotP. It just doesn't make sense to me at all.

I got myself a JF account -- ladylauren -- so's I can read all of bad_penny and fandom_wank on the one page instead of switching between comms.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Since I have... certain anger issues myself, I possibly associated a little too much with the Capslock of Rage. But OotP isn't the best in the series, regardless.

I think at thatpoint we didn't know pretty much anything about Narcissa, and Cassie Claire took a wild stab in the dark (and set her fic a couple of years forward from GoF, I believe).

And hurrah for getting JF accounts!

Of course, the only she's going to get over this recapping is to ask her 'fans' for another iPod.

From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com

Fandom: Where fame is measured in free electronic goods

When the hell did this start happening? "Gimme a new laptop, gimmie an ipod, gimmie a roomba." The sense of entitlement boggles me, but not as much as the fact that people are *granting* those selfish wishes!

From: [identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com

I missed out a 'thing' in that sentence. *headdesks*

You know you've made it in fandom when people buy you a laptop.

From: [identity profile] sweetvalleyslut.livejournal.com

Yeah, I'm enjoying the hell out of this one, since I was around for a lot of it, but I'm also sort of glancing nervously at HP fandom, waiting for some kind of eruption.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's a bit like waiting on the edge of a volcano.

And, no offense meant or anything, but who the hell are you?

From: [identity profile] sweetvalleyslut.livejournal.com

Oh, sorry, I wasn't sure if I'd commented in your LJ before. I've spoken to you on JF, I'm bastet over there, and you sent me here to your links lists :)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

No, I don't think you have commented before. But it's okay you commented, I just didn't connect the names.
