Mostly, it's just frustration over watching someone rip off that much material, then get rewarded on the basis of that work with influential friends, as many contacts as she could possibly need and, eventually, a book deal. (If I understand things correctly, she's got the same agent as Holly Black, which would kind of suggest she didn't have to try too hard at this.)
The other related thing that drives me nuts is that she could end up writing the best and most original book in years (although I doubt it), and I'd still resent the fuck out of it. I'm never going to read the thing, nor am I going to point anyone else at it. And I feel like I should be rooting for my fellow fandomers, you know? I just can't, not in this case, and it's really too bad....
It's always irritating when people get rewards that they really haven't earned. I mean, I've never experienced anything on this sort of scale, but the idea behind it I can sort of understand.
That said, I've always believed that just as we are all entitled to our own opinions, we are also entitled to accept the consequences of those opinion. The same goes for actions. We possess free will to do whatever we choose, and the price we pay for this is having to deal with the consequences of our actions.
Sooner or later, Cassie Claire will get her consequences. And this might just be them.
I don't want to feel bitter, and I certainly have nothing to do with it, so (other than this) I'm keeping my mouth shut. But yeah... occasionally one must flail a bit, and then sit back and watch to see what if anything happens. ;)
I get the horrible feeling that something will come of this you know, I can feel it in my waters and it's not going to be pretty. Honestly, the way resentments have been bubbling for the last few years . . . I shudder to think where it'll end.
But I'll be glued to it because it's better than any of the soaps.
I find this fascinating. If for no other reason that looking at it is like dissecting a research paper. It's like a book rec essay. I'm already checking out Pamela Dean on amazon.com.
Holy flying WTF. The MsScribe nonsense took me a week to read. Now this. *headdesk* But of course I will read it, or else how will I go on? Always wondering what I missed.
Sigh. I both love you and am irritated to have this brought to my attention, all at the same time.

I've read and enjoyed the VSD. I've never been in Harry Potter fandom, not really. I'm just reading this with astounded interest.

Otherwise... I think everyone is just reading in disbelief.

Then again, right now I'm wishing karma would come bite Someone Else Who Is Not Me on the ass.
Ahem.
