Stupid thing still has 20% to go

I am generally fine with RPF. I have, one or two times, even recced it to others. But I always go for fics in which there is a clear line drawn between the fantasy and the reality. The ones in which the RP ship is clearly drawn from who they play - your lead example is the Dan/Emma lot - they are the ones that I don't really go for. The fantasy/reality line gets a little too blurred for my liking.

So the Tennant/Piper RP shipping hasn't really been my thing. They have had a very close friendship (described at one point as sibling-like), and both have reasonably long-term significant others. If you make it crack fantasy, great, I'll read it. But seriously shipping it is something I just don't get.

And it's not something I generally read RPF for. I generally just skim past it when it shows up on my flist. But someone made a reference to the latest chapter of someone's Tennant/Piper epic, and I had to see for myself.

And thus we have... Sophia Myles getting hit by a car. And fanbrats squeeing over the possibility of her death, in order to preserve their cute happily ever after.

I don't think anything in fandom has sickened me so much in a long, long time.

She skated towards them to try and help, but stopped again when she noticed David's arousal through his trousers.

Hooray!

"I so wish that david tennant was shagging me but if i can't have the real thing then i suppose reading a fiction about him shagging billie will have to do!"

...this in no way confirms certain assumptions.

She skated towards them to try and help, but stopped again when she noticed David's arousal through his trousers.

WTF is that about? She's mad that he's a heterosexual man? Do the writers know any men at all?

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

Yeah, the fantasizing about a real person being in a terrible accident is real great story-telling, isn't it? What is wrong with these people?

She has trained his cock only to respond to her, and is angered by its rebellion.

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

How does one train a cock? Do you give it treats when it behaves?

From: [identity profile] van.livejournal.com

Yeah, as a some-times RPF/RPS reader/writer, stuff like that is really, really disgusting, and embarrassing. It's why I usually keep my RPF interests to myself, because I don't want to be associated with those sorts of people, ugh.

...this in no way confirms certain assumptions.

Oh no, not at all. *rolls eyes*

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's just... issues, much. I thought people had quit killing opposing characters in fandom fics because of lack of taste, so the fact it shows up in RPF. Is more than a little disturbing.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I like some RPF. Mostly the vaguely crack sort that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still I'm not opposed to the genre. I just find this utterly appalling. Can't they do it the traditional way, and just pretend the real GFs or BFs don't exist?

From: [identity profile] van.livejournal.com

yeah, I'm with you. There are much more tactful ways to eliminate the GF/BF or whatever, least of all being "ignores they exist." What's wrong with "They broke up"? Even, "She cheated on him" would be better than HIT BY A CAR AND DIED. And that the fans are cheering for this is . . . well. Frankly, immature and embarrassing.

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

Definitely disturbing. It makes me worry about their grip on reality a bit.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's just... do they realise what they are saying? That the damned production team sometimes reads this stuff? I want to know how they'd react if some of this got back to Cardiff.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I was expecting the "She's an evil bitch" stuff. Which isn't pleasant, but at least is blatantly fiction. That she wrote this is bad enough, but the fan reaction is... deeply disturbing.

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

God, I hope none of them ever read it. Especially Sophia; it's just really hurtful and she doesn't deserve such viciousness.

It's like a foul taste, these reviews. The newest has me very seriously contemplating deleting the link. Maybe I could fake technical difficulties for a few hours.

What kills me is that the writer's 15 and so are most of her reviewers. Nothing against 15 year olds, I was one not long ago, but...oh I don't know.

"She got hit by a car...Cute chapter."

Seriously.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Exactly. This is one bit of fic I sincerely hope doesn't get found by any of them.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Someone please tell me I wasn't nearly that horrid when I was 15. I don't think I could bare it. Kids these days...

The reviews just... it's like you said, a foul taste.

From: [identity profile] days-of-yore.livejournal.com

I am basically 15 (16 but I keep forgetting) and am now completely disgusted with my agegroup.

Did you see the note at the beginning? "I think you're gonna love me after this chapter! lol" Er... no.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

One of those "Stop making my age look bad" things? They are... not so fun, really. *sympathises*

Sometimes I really wonder about people.

From: [identity profile] days-of-yore.livejournal.com

Hee, I sound whiny now. OMG we r not all bad nd txt speakin hnstly. It's just weird because I'm not seperated from them by any age barrier and I don't understand them.

Consider though: while everyone is worrying about the happy slappy kids with ASBOs and hoodies, they should really be hiding from those fangirls who will KILL THEM if they get mad with DT OMG.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

My sister txt spks at me at times. And she's 18. But there are times when you can just look at people and go, "How can you think like that?"

People are strange.

The almighty DT army?

From: [identity profile] leoniedelt.livejournal.com

Amen to that. RPF should be kept in its own little comm somewhere, so i can take it OFF my list. i dont read it because these are REAL people, and their lives dont need to be fantasised about like that IMHO - their characters are enough.

Else i mgiht have to start writing tonnes of RPF wherein I shag Peter Davison senselessly day and night, despite the existence of his real family and 3 kids (one grown up though). Ahem.

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com

Tinhats have forever scarred me what RPF is concerned. It burnsssss...

What is with the recent Tennant/Piper upswing, anyway? Now that Rose and the Doctor are universes apart, they go for the next best thing?

I clicked that link and I now wish so very much that I hadn't. I really don't mind RPF if it's done with an awareness that this is fictional but this is just disturbing.
