I am generally fine with RPF. I have, one or two times, even recced it to others. But I always go for fics in which there is a clear line drawn between the fantasy and the reality. The ones in which the RP ship is clearly drawn from who they play - your lead example is the Dan/Emma lot - they are the ones that I don't really go for. The fantasy/reality line gets a little too blurred for my liking.
So the Tennant/Piper RP shipping hasn't really been my thing. They have had a very close friendship (described at one point as sibling-like), and both have reasonably long-term significant others. If you make it crack fantasy, great, I'll read it. But seriously shipping it is something I just don't get.
And it's not something I generally read RPF for. I generally just skim past it when it shows up on my flist. But someone made a reference to the latest chapter of someone's Tennant/Piper epic, and I had to see for myself.
And thus we have... Sophia Myles getting hit by a car. And fanbrats squeeing over the possibility of her death, in order to preserve their cute happily ever after.
I don't think anything in fandom has sickened me so much in a long, long time.

Hooray!
"I so wish that david tennant was shagging me but if i can't have the real thing then i suppose reading a fiction about him shagging billie will have to do!"
...this in no way confirms certain assumptions.

WTF is that about? She's mad that he's a heterosexual man? Do the writers know any men at all?

What kills me is that the writer's 15 and so are most of her reviewers. Nothing against 15 year olds, I was one not long ago, but...oh I don't know.
"She got hit by a car...Cute chapter."
Seriously.

Kids these days...The reviews just... it's like you said, a foul taste.

Else i mgiht have to start writing tonnes of RPF wherein I shag Peter Davison senselessly day and night, despite the existence of his real family and 3 kids (one grown up though). Ahem.

Hey, write all the RPF you want. Just don't go killing off his family.

What is with the recent Tennant/Piper upswing, anyway? Now that Rose and the Doctor are universes apart, they go for the next best thing?

And I think that the Rose/Doctor thing is pretty much that. Cynical, but probably very true.

I'm an RPF (mostly slash) writer and I find this utterly disturbing and disgusting - and I used to be in LOTR RPS fandom. It takes a great deal to disturb me and this did it.
Though I admit I write Dr Who RPF myself and would really loathe to be tarred with the same brush.

Me own RPF fandom uses the personas that the people involved are projecting and sort of acting on-screen and is obv not really properly them and has fic with comedy coconuts and pink houses and people living in cupboards. I have no guilt.

See, slightly cracked out and obviously fictional RPF is another matter entirely.

It's just a matter of common decency - going around saying how wonderful it would be is so-and-so died is never nice, and doing so in order so that you can get a couple together? Is just so far beyond nice it's staggering. And the way people are going on about how wonderful it is in the comments? Is deeply disturbing. Especially since some of these are the same people who go on about how David and Billie must be in love.
Another thing to consider is that the Doctor Who fandom is one in which the creators have a heavy online involvement - things on LiveJournal have been known to get back to the team at Cardiff numerous times. For you, this might just be fun, but could you imagine what David - or, God forbid, Sophia - would feel like if he found that people were writing stories about her being grieviously injured? They aren't just characters, they are real people, and how would you feel if someone was writing stories about you being hit by a car, even if they said "it's just fiction"?
(Also, just as I disclaimer, I refuse to read fanfic, even if just with fictional characters, in which an opposing love interest is killed off on principle)

Yeaaach. What a distasteful and unfortunate nightmare that would be...
But now that I hear (missed the post, thank goodness) that they've taken it that one demented step further, and I'm even more horrified. (In that "holy-shit-they-said-WHAT!!!???" sort of way.)
