I think I picked a good time to get Teh Intarweb back. It's just right for news of fannish yayness.

So, we have S3 casting of awesomeness, and a freaking animated Doctor Who series! Complete with Anthony Stewart Head, and some shiny, shiny wall-papers. (yes, I have a new desktop)

And, there's already the amusement factor of the fanits whining about "Why didn't Rose get an animated series?" (which has already started, it seems)

Oh, yay for fandom and all your craziness.

*needs icons of animated Ten'n'Martha*

And, there's already the amusement factor of the fanits whining about "Why didn't Rose get an animated series?" (which has already started, it seems)

I plan to start a raft of conspiracy theories about why Nine didn't get all the peripheral stuff Ten did, like Totally Doctor Who, Doctor Who Adventures, Battles in Time...

From: [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com

I can't decide if it's merely that the BBC hated Christopher Eccleston and wished him dead or that they physically divined that Ten/Rose would be the real OTP of the show and kept the additional stuff back till the Sainted Tennant came along.

Of course the sane answer is that once they knew the series was successful there was a guaranteed market for this stuff, just like Totally Doctor Who can justify having a no-doubt expensive animated segment now that it's had a year to prove it's a success, but that's far too sensible.

Pah, sane answers are no fun! (Also, I heard that Rusty had a hard word with the people running Totally after the first few episodes, which might explain why it picked up towards the end)

If Ten/Rose was the real OTP, why is Martha getting even more stuff than Rose - the animation, a 12-inch figure as well as the little one...

Obviously it's a cunning mislead away from the fact that Rose is making a triumphant return at the end of the season! And Martha is the Master!

Martha Jones = Master Jonah? Master Jon Ha? Master Jo Han?

We might have a winner here, folks.

Fannish yayness indeed!

And as soon as I saw the news about the animated series I knew certain segments of fandom would freak out about it. Oh fanbrats, you're ever so predictable.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

There was the same "Why didn't Rose get one... thing over that bed rumour/spoiler thing.

Actually, watching the forums and whatnot, there seems to be a pattern to this - every new bit of Martha/S3 news is followed by a deep panic. It's as if, deep down, the fanbrat crowd is subconsciously terrified that Doctor/Rose isn't the OTP end all OTPs, and there's a little fear with every bit of news that this is going to be the evidence which proves it...

It's fascinating to watch - or it would be if it didn't get so nasty about Martha/Freema.

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

Oh noes! The Doctor might care about someone besides his Soulmate Rose!!! We can't have that!

I feel really bad for Freema. No matter how awesome Martha is there will be some segments of fandom that will hate her anyway.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I've been feeling for Freema for a while now. Especially when there are nutty lots like someone at TWoP who was bitching about Freema for supposedly not showing any respect for the job or something (which boggled me seeing as I haven't seen a single interview in which she wasn't gushing about the job, Tennant and everything else...)

From: [personal profile] fannishnonsense

They said she wasn't showing respect for the job? WTF does that even mean? Like you say, every time I've seen her talk about it she seems incredibly happy and grateful to be playing Martha. Of course, I probably shouldn't be surprised by anything the comes from TWOP. There are very good reasons why I don't hang out over there any more.

Hah, found the comment!

(It was shortly after a comment about wanting to punch Freema for having a "bitch face" if you want some of the context)

"Yes, it's got to be hard to replace Billie--but as rumor/anecdote would have it, she doesn't seem to be either 1. grateful for the opportunity to be on DW, or 2. making much of an effort to be friendly with the fans. Ungrateful wench."

O_O

That's ... much as Billie seems sweet and all, I've never heard of her making any connection with fans outside of book signings.

The crack is strong in this one.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Well, they love Rose, so that's a connection with them! *rolls eyes*

But yes, I agree on the crack. Especially with the "doesn't seem grateful" rubbish. (I'm actually fairly sure the first DWM had Freema directly saying "I'm so grateful for this opportunity")

I can't think of a single interview Freema's done (what is it, three?) where she hasn't gushed about how lucky she is to have the job.
