Am I the only person who is finding it impossible to comment about Human Nature because it is such an unfinished story?

Unlike some of the two-parters, it really seems like one episode split over two weeks. And thus I am finding it impossible to come up with any thoughts, mainly because I need to know how it ends, first.

Seriously, it's like trying to come up with comment on Smith and Jones, after having seen up until hospital on the moon. Not only is it unresolved, but the major stuff hasn't even really come into play yet.

I did, but I couldn't say how much until it ends.

I mean, I'd give this episode 5 out of 5, but where it ranks on my favourite episodes scale depends on the second half.

I had a hard time thinking of exactly what I thought of it too at first. I was actually surprised at home much I could comment on it when I was done reviewing.

I agree that I really need to see the entire episode to make a true judgement. Though I'll admit to being worried about being let down with part two, as I've found most DW two parters fall flat in the second part.

I'd nominally agree with you on the two-parters, but this story has the advantage of being a pre-written plot, which hopefully means it will escape the... "oh shit, we need to end this" chaos that seems to happen in a lot of them. But the Doctor Dances worked out well, so it is possible.

The only 'comment' I can make at this point is to flail at the various awesome bits in the first part. Anything more substantial will have to wait, as you said.

It's sort of flail and wait for conclusive stuff to happen, really.

I have to agree, which is why I'm confining myself to flailing at this point.

I'll be amazed though if wank has not generated from this episode. Not only from Ten/Martha shippers, but also Ten/Rose shippers, who can use the opportunity to go "HA! You see??? He doesn't love Martha after all!! In fact he HATESORZ heeeerrrrr!!!" (Never mind of course that the Doctor isn't even a fucking Time Lord at this point and that that is pretty much the beginning, middle and end of why he falls for Joan, as the next episode will demonstrate very well).

Have to say though, I think the Family and the Jackstraws are one of the most chillingly scary villains to have appeared in this new series of Who.

And what the hell is with that Love Actually kid? I got properly stranged out by him.

I'm a Ten/Martha shipper, and I'm okay with it, seeing how John Smith is quite obviously not the Doctor. (That said, the Doctor will need to make it up to her, once he's Time Lorded up again. Two months being a maid treated like that?)

Also, to the Ten/Rose shippers, all I can do is look pointedly in the direction of Girl in the Fireplace.

Oh I know. I mean, as much as I did squee when Smith kissed Joan, it was a very UnDoctorish action. Tell you this though, Rose wouldn't have been able to cope nearly as well as Martha did. There would have been a constant array of tears and such.

I actually think these two episodes might be the third season's equivalent of The Girl in the Fireplace actually. I love how well the romance played out here. Hopefully other aspiring writers of Doctor Who episodes like Rowling should take notice.

Me, I just want Jack back. :(

Smith was just plain unDoctorish. Allowing a student to beat up another student, treating Martha in a racist manner?

I think the difference between Rose and Martha, is that Martha would like it if the Doctor loved her. Whereas Rose assumes he already does.

And yes, I think these are, in emotional terms, the GitF of this series.

You have only another 3 weeks to wait...

You have only another 3 weeks to wait...

That's still too long for me ;) I also want to see if this whole Professor rumour is true and that he is the Master who promptly regenerates into Simm!Saxon.

Tell you this though, Rose wouldn't have been able to cope nearly as well as Martha did.

Particularly given that modern mascara had only just been invented that year, and the tube-and-wand version wouldn't be around until 1957. Between the Doctor not doting on her completely and the tragic lack of mascara, her world would've been in tatters, poor thing!

We won't even go into the state of hair dye at the time. Her roots would be too terrible to even contemplate.

Yes - really, so far all I can say is "Is it next week yet?"

From: [identity profile] van.livejournal.com

Deinitely how I feel. I refuse to say whether I liked it or not until I see the second half. Because from the trailer for next week, the second half looks like is has the potential to suck ass, alas.
