Oh fandom, you so stupid.

I can't even link to any posts in particular, but just sort of wave in the general directions of The HMS STFU, the Cornfield, Fandom Lounge and all over goddamn LJ. [livejournal.com profile] gloatation is always good for linking to Teh Lulz.

Why? Well, it appears that Deathly Hallows spoilers have been, well spoiled. Genuine ones, too, not like some of the dodgy past ones. Despite myself, I've even taken a look (not at the scans, but just conversation about said scans).

And, yeah, the predictable is happening.

And the weirdest bit? It's all about the ruddy shipping in the end (and, by default, who lives to the end). I haven't seen a single word about the Horcruxes, or the Harry vs Voldemort stuff. Nothing about what any of the book covers represent. All I've seen is shipping stuff. Which isn't even plot. It's like... people bitching about the icing, without even trying the cake underneath.

And my one spoilery comment on the matter: I am also honestly amazed that people are shocked that Harry is getting a happy ending. Seriously, no matter how much I love them, these are kids books. The relationship with Ginny was set-up so Harry has something to live for outside the war. Ron/Hermione was the most obvious thing in Obvioustown, and they're Harry best friends, of course they live. As for the rest... I can't believe people are bitching about an epilogue without seeing the story before it. There's this thing called context, people.

Besides, the whole point of the epilogue isn't plot based. It's to show what happens to the characters after the plot. It's showing the happily ever after, pretty much.

And just to prove I haven't forgotten Doctor Who A small metawank. Amusing, due to the anonymity of everyone involved, which confuses matters in the best way.

That is the thing blowing my brain about this. Since when did a background ship trump the plot? (Of course, I've also wondered how in Who fandom the companion should be less changeable than the Doctor, which is also a but... "buh?")

I seem to have fallen through a looking glass. But I'm happy that the only spoilers are ship ones, as I really want to stay unspoiled for the meat of the plot in Potter.

I spazzed out about spoilers too, initially. And then I noticed that pretty much everything was shipping rather than plot, and sort of guiltily started peeking. To which I decided that it was all fairly predictable, was amused by the wank, and stayed away from anything that might have spoilers for the actual, you know, plot.
