I'd really like to know why it's going off the air for a year. Maybe DT has other big plans in the pipeline? Or they're going to focus more on the two spinoffs? Hmmmm..

I suspect it might have something to do with the change over to filming in Hi-Def (which, supposedly, all BBC shows are going to be doing soon).

And Tennant is doing Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company next year, as well...

Both RTD and Tennant probably would like a rest. And the BBC really don't want to lose either of them. I still suspect the three specials will be RTD's swan-song... a transition period between his tenure and whoever comes next. It probably gives whoever is in charge of Series Five more time to prepare.

The future of Tennant is less clear. After a year off with only three specials, he might welcome doing another season. And if by then he decides to leave, I expect he'd be back for the start of that series - so that the new writer can kick start the next regeneration...
