So, Torchwood's response to all the criticism they've gotten over the break?

Seems to have been, "So, they keep claiming that Torchwood is like fanfic? Well, let's damn well make fanfic"

With all the shippiness, silliness and snarkiness that implies.

It's almost scary how much better Torchwood is when it's willing to totally take the piss out of itself. It's silly as hell, but at least it admits that.

(Also: Need clips and caps and discussion of the series trailer. Especially the Marthatastic bits)

Now, talk with me, people. Talk!

ETA: Owen reporting on the between series goings on. Also, Doctor Who S3 finale. Apparently from the Official Torchwood site. Haven't LOLed so hard in ages.

I love how even though they realise they're silly this time, they seem able to be taken more seriously somehow, BECAUSE they realise it. If that makes sense!

One word: fab. I need to go watch it again. ;)

BLOWFISH!

Oh, God, wasn't it? I just about fell out of the chair laughing. :)

Chris Chibnall, I've doubted in the past, but talk about redeeming yourself... this episode was so much win. :)

I literally had to pause and watch it again, just so I could be certain I wasn't hallucinating.

On our way back, they told us Harry Saxon had won the election, then he murdered the American President, then he was shot dead by his wife. A week really is a long time in politics.

Hahahaha!

I love the reaction of people with Aliens now.. The old lady simply shrugs it off with a "Bloody Torchwood" remark. Not just TW, but Who as well. I like the fact that humans in the Whoniverse are getting used to Aliens like it's a common thing.

Also everything with Marsters = brilliant. And that "you're good with rooftops" had me laughing..

If you can find it online, look for the first Sam & Max game. They did the same joke (well, it's Lucasarts - they always make those kind of jokes)

Yep. I still have the original CD-ROM, Macintosh version, thanks very much. :) I loves me some Sam & Max. And one of these days I HAVE to take advantage of Boot Camp and install that XP disc I have lying around so I can play the current run of games on GameTap....

(I did a couple rounds of usability testing at Microsoft, which had its advantages. If they want to throw free software at me so I never actually have to buy their OS, I call it a win.)

Never tried gametap, but the official s&m website with the new episodes has a terrible purchase system. The credit card payment system doesnt work, you have to use paypal and the authorisation system to unlock the full game never worked. Mind you, this is the first time round. Maybe it's better now (doesnt matter, im becoming addicted to WoW - dodgy, I know. :P)

I suppose one adjusts. Eventually, anyway. You'd have to, given the number of invasons that have gone in short order...

Masters was not half bad, even if he was basically Spike again. And there were some good lines (and self-mockery).

I hope, hope hope that they'll keep it going and the next 12 episodes are just as cracky.

Me too, sweetie, me too.

Hey, I found your journal through Life on Martha and I see that you are a fellow Whovian (or whatever we;re called) who goes to Melb Uni. Mind if I add?

As for Torchwood: I have really severe doubts that it can keep up this episodes level of crack - at some point it will try for emotion sincerity and just Fail. Completely. I'm sure it will still be amusing though.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Feel free to add away! What course are you doing?

Well, the episodes written by Cath Treggena last series weren't half bad on the emotional stuff, and she has another two coming this series, so it might work. But crack is always of the good.

From: [identity profile] suburbannoir.livejournal.com

Cool. Added. I am your typical Melbourne Uni arts bum. You?

Did Cath Treggena write the Captain Jack Harkness episode? What else? I didn't really keep track of the Torchwood writiers, except for Chibnall.

I'm Arts/Science. Which means more time, but more letters after my name at the end.

She wrote that one, and Out of Time (with the people from the Fifties) Wikipedia has the complete list. Naturally.

Hmmm, maybe there is hope then? Is it wrong of me to just wish they avoid it and stick to the crack instead? Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang seemed to have the right mixture...

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Crack is always good. Especially with Torchwood. The "Let's all have sex/I thought the end of the world couldn't be any worse" exchange in the series trailer certainly cracked me up.

Crack and Martha pwning all. That's all I ask.
