So, now that the Doctor Who finale has been and gone, I have one question to ask of my flist:

What is going to cause the most wank in the upcoming weeks?

(I haven't seen the episode, but have been spoiled for it. Be as spoilery as you like in the comments)

From: [identity profile] malaleen.livejournal.com

I think it's going to be over the Rose ending. Some will be happy with the ending, and others will be appalled. I suspect there might be a lot of in-ship disagreements. But the most interesting will be behind flock, unfortunately.

I've already seen at least one shipper get their rage on.

This bodes well for entertaining wank. *gets popcorn*

Schism in the ranks over the Rose ending, I think. Between "OMG TRUE LOVE THEY BOTH CAN DIE!" and "HE DITCHED HER! THE BASTARD!"

Oh, that'll be fun. Ship wank I have no actual inverstment in, so I can sit on the sidelines and LOL.

There's some anger from the Rosefen. Or rather, a bit of schism between those who liked her ending, and those who hated it.

I bet it will be an interesting read. Either that or both sides will recognize each other as Doctor/Rose shippers and completely refuse to confirm or deny the others' existence.

If I've learned anything in my time in wank communities, it is this:

You can never predict exactly where the wank will come from.

So I vote some aspect that NONE of us have considered wanking over.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

True. But I've already seen hints of wankiness from a few directions (angry Donnafen, the Doctor/Rose schism...)

I'm just pleased I'm a Martha fan, since we seem to have ended up the happiest.

It'll probably be Ten/Rose vs Hand!Ten/Rose, but we might get some wank over the retconning of the half-human thing too.

From what I've seen - and to my disappointment - the wankiest stuff appears to be coming not from the batchippers - who are divided amongst themselves and hence cannot stand - but from the militant anti-shippers/anti-Rose people, to my disappointment. Some of it seems to revolve around fandom - some people's anger seems less at the episode, and more at the 'fact' that the shippers 'won'. Odd.

Also, Donna fans - though they have good reason, some of them are taking it too far. It's a out-and-out tragic downer ending milked for angst, but some people appear to be under the impression that it proves Rusty hates Donna. Or appear to have watched an entirely different episode in which Donna barely appeared and Rose did everything - which is so utterly wrong as to be simply incomprehensible to me.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Really?

I'm a bit surprised at that. Mainly because I have a fairly anti-Rose flist, for the most part, and they are mostly commenting at how they felt that the ending was incredibly messed up when it came to Rose's behalf. Pity, rather than anger.

I agree on the Donnafen: Anger and upset is justified, but some people take it too far. Shouldn't they be angry at Catherine Tate, too, for having a career outside Doctor Who?

ext_14568: Lisa just seems like a perfectly nice, educated, middle class woman...who writes homoerotic fanfiction about wizards (Dr Who Tardis)

From: [identity profile] midnitemaraud-r.livejournal.com

Whaddaya mean you haven't seen it yet? Go watch it, girl! :-P

As for the wank, on LJ it's going to be split between the Rose ending and the Donna ending. For Rose/NewNewNewHumanDoctorDonnaDoctor it will center around whether it was a sucky consolation prize vs. "Yay! We got our own human doctor who can haz babies!" or rage by Rose haters that the shippers were totally thrown a bone.

With Donna it will be about how her choice was ignored and she was mindraped, and she would have been better off dead.

With the former, well, I've always liked Rose - I adore all the companions so for me, these last few eps were big time fan service and I was ridiculously happy. I think Rose was being a bit petulant, particularly with New New New Doctor standing right there while she's being a bit ungrateful, but okay, it was a bit of confusion and it was kind of a shock, not to mention it was pretty rushed because the episode clock was ticking. *shrug*

But with Donna... I guess people would have preferred to see Donna come to the realization herself instead of protesting until the end, and I can see that. But it's also a television show, and Donna acquiescing wouldn't have held the same dramatic punch.

I'm more at a loss to understand the people who seem to think it would have been better if she's died - that the Doctor should have let her die if that was her choice. Because, no, just no. One, he doesn't do that, and two, I hardly think Sylvia and Wilf would have preferred it either. I mean, if any of the fen were the parent of a Companion... *shrug*

And honestly, since when to any of the Companions really get a Happily Ever After? The whole point is that while it's the greatest adventure ever to run with the Doctor, it's also a dangerous risk. They all get left behind. I'm also at a bit of a loss as to why Rose wanting to stay with the Doctor forever was horribly bad, but Donna wanting it was perfectly acceptable. Not to mention how Martha choosing to leave was twisted into all kinds of negative crap at the time.

I haven't looked beyond my flist yet, but I figure you'll eventually link to any of the good wank. :-P

Oh! Over at OG or whatever it's called now, the main wank's going to be all about the faulty science. The second Doctor and how he was created, with Donna being a Time Lady, and the second Doctor being half human, implying that the real Doctor isn't part human which contradicts older canon, and the earth being towed by the Tardis without the atmosphere bleeding off, etc.

I am rather behind on episodes right now. I'll watch it when I'm actually caught up (this is what happens when one has exams and assignments et al)

I'm mildly fascinated by the fact Martha seems to have gotten the best ending out of the main companions, after all the wank there was about her arc.

From: [identity profile] meester-bond.livejournal.com

I know I'll want to cause wank about the lack of the celebration mass orgy scene with both Doctors and his companions

From: [identity profile] ice-feather.livejournal.com

It'll be the Rose ending (Rose always brings wank, sadly) and possibly Donna's fate because I've already seen a few people describing it as squicky. Not that I've seen a lot of wank as I'm trying to avoid it this time.

Hope you don't mind a random person commenting. We have a few of the same fandoms and your journal is interesting. :)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I've seen some stuff about Rose (in-ship wars between those who like Rose getting her own Doctor, and those who dislike it isn't the real Doctor, as well as complaints about Rose being reduced to a passive love interest), though Donna seems to be where the real anger is.

It's times like this I am pleased Martha is my favourite of the three. After all the wank last year, she seems to have ended up the best of the main companions.

I get a few randoms, here and there. Don't be surprised if my LJ ends up being mostly RL stuff you have no interest in, mind.
