Multiple clubs had their meetings today, so it was quite interesting.

CHAS was first up. Very short meeting, and I managed to get myself on the general committee for another club, which is of the good. I feel so very important. Even if only three people went for the three positions. Oh well...

Though I discovered that apparentally Doctor Who is covered in the CHAS constitution, making my nice DW top I was wearing today at least somewhat relevant. No, it had nothing to do with the Torchwood announcement, I swear...

And then there was the Inaugural Joss Whedon Appreciation Society. A club which is Teh Coolies, seeing as we have Joss Whedon himself down as an associate member. And anyone who replies to this post with "Who is Joss Whedon?" is going to be lynched

But, that was quite fun. Talked a few Second Floorians into joining, was involved in the most rigged election since the US Presidential ones, all was well.

Then, along with quite a few Second Floorians, went to see Serenity again. It was still spectacular, still hysterically funny, and still made me cry, even on the third go round.

Oh, I am so getting the DVD of it.

Then, we toddled off to Wing Loong's. (sp?) I didn't have any food, as they had very little vegetarian, and even that scared me a little, so just had an iced coffee. Mmm, iced coffee.

Then toddled back to college, where I walked straight into Charlie, whose tutorial I just blew off to see Serenity. Oops. Luckily, he's pretty easy going, so he didn't mind much.

And, almost got pulled up by an undercover ticket inspector raid on a tram. Luckily, I had the Eternal Ticket handy, and managed to look innocent enough to get away with it.

Note to self: Stay away from cute little Chinatown clothes shops, especially when they are having "Nothing over $30" sales. *cringes slightly*

Still, at least I am now in possession of a truly shiny maroon metallic fake suede jacket, with a detachable faux fur collar. It's so pretty!

The Joss Whedon Appreciation Society will probably be dragged down by Clubs and Societies when they read your constitution. You may not have already been told, but a club can not exist where its aims interfere with a pre-existing club.

If FAS^2 has been disbanded then you're fine. Otherwise, Joss' work comes fairly and squarely under FAS^2's banner. This has resulted in II nearly being disbanded before for interfering with the aims of the Chess and go Clubs by claiming its members wanted to play all kinds of games.

No offence or anything, but there's every chance you held a meeting and an AGM for nothing.

Yes, but the person who ran the meeting has been checking this stuff out, and said that she wasn't allowed to have a Buffy club - or a Firefly one, for that matter - but was allowed to have a Joss Whedon one.

I mean, doesn't CHAS technically also come under the same banner as FAS? They certainly share some of the same interests.

And she appears to have had a lot of contact with C and S about this - as in, has been working on things for most of the year.

*shrugs* If it gets disbanded, then I'll just drag them all of to FAS. Which still exists, BTW. And I should know, I'm on the committee for that, also.

The line exists where CHAS primarily supports drinking and watching stuff, whereas FAS is supposed to support writing and discussion of stuff. It's not how it's ended up because no one in those clubs who was organising events read both constitutions, but hey, that was the theory I was going by when organising stuff.

Frankly, because FAS is Alcohol-free and Angie knows that, there's never really been a problem.

And if the I recall the constitution correctly, it will probably more along the line of CHAS, with watching things than writing them.

Well, as far as I know, the JWAS will be alcohol free, also.

To be honest, I don't care. I just want to try and help so you know why the club gets rejected if it should happen and maybe help you get the thing up and running. I like Joss's work, but I'm not the raving lunatic fan many second floorers appear to be, so I suspect I'll steer well clear.

Be aware that the FAS T-Shirts currently have Buffy and Angel printed on them as part of what the club does and that there will be arguments with past members. Other than that, enjoy.

I'm only a latecomer to the club, really. There are about three or four people who have apparentally been doing most of the had work, and they've been working on it for quite a while now.

And as for the FAS t-shirts, I'm pretty certain they contain a whole bunch of shows that are also officially covered by CHAS - I mean, Doctor Who for one, that springs to mind. (I may be wrong, considering I've only ever seen the one person wear a FAS T-shirt.)

If they set up the consitituion to be about admiring JOSS they may get away with it, cos C&S may not know who he is.
also, bear in mind that as of next year Angie and her office wont be there, nor will MUSUi, so the rules may have been rewritten.
The best way ot get a club up is to be buddy's with the Activities (c&S) office bearers.

should be okay - enthusiastic second-year types have been organising/ researching/ fine-tuning/ rehashing this stuff since...well, about a year ago. constitution/aims suitably different. in theory.
