Of Fandom Stupidity and Utter Fury.

Fandom is getting wanky yet again. And whilst hugely entertaining, it also starting to grate on a few of my nerves. *mutters about bloody Harmonians*


To go into detail: a certain big name Harmonian had a minor freak out when her sister got sick of hearing about the cruel, cruel non-believers mocking her ship. So said sister set up an LJ dedicated to telling off (in rather coarse terms) both the BNH and my dear HMS STFU.

BNH had a minor breakdown, and declared she was leaving the fandom. Less than a day later she was back, with an exciting new essay. STFU reported this here.

Starts out fine. A bit of mockery, but not to wanky. Then another prominent Harmonian (who is oddly fascinated with out comm) turns up, explaining why he likes Harmony. Certain people take umbrage to some of his comments. The ship war is on.

He gets offended, accuses the comm of being anti-H/Hr. Lots of fierce debating, from both him and others.

Still trying to justify himself, he comes up with an epic, three comment essay on why Harmony is Teh Best Thing Ever, and why HBP was effectively a Weapon of Mass Thematic Destruction of the HP books.

It's a shockingly wanky, biased entry, but the very worst part of it in my opinion is this one terrible, condescending, prejudiced remark:

As far as I can tell, R/Hr and H/G shippers usually don't think this way or don't read the stories for symbolism/thematic structures and overarching life lessons.

I am outraged. And slightly wanky, but still...effectively calling a large portion of the fandom immature and illiterate really grates.

No response as of yet, mainly because the offensive individual was offended by the reception he was receiving, even after insulting things like that. So he has swanned off, leaving everyone to gape.

Luckily, most people I know dislike them. I mean, my Mum has all Dan Brown's books, and my sister has read A and D and Da Vinci Code, but they'll both admit that it is trash lit.

My Mum's not, but she is in a Book Club (where they read highly literary, and generally quite boring, books). Still, she also likes thrillers. And John Grisham.

And Harry Potter, so I'll forgive her.
