You know what would be a real bastard? A virus that worked by disabling virus scanners.
In other news: The virus scan thing has been running for 38 minutes, and still isn't finished.
ETA: And, finished at 40.36 minutes. 1 virus, 1 trojan and 7 spyware programs removed.
Damn, I hope it works better now. *goes to add scanner site to favourite links*
ETA (2.26): Okay, computer rebooted okay, which is a good sign. Then again, I thought it was working properly a few weeks back. And look what's happened now. Still as bloody slow as ever, though.
However... the file still will not work. Even when I save it to disc. *cries*

Your other choice...and I've done this too-back up anything crucial to hard disk then clear EVERYTHING and reload the original factory disks. This does work but is a bummer to lose your favorites, addresses, IM stuff-everything. V.time consuming but it works.

And I'd do that, except all the original discs are back home - correction, at my parents home. And that's 4 and a half hours away,

At least you got rid of those other nasty trojans/viruses etc. Did you say one of the things it found was in a boot file? If so, then even if the virus has been deleted the damage has been done to the boot files.
Have your mom express mail you the original disks?
