Because personally, I think New Year's Resolutions are a stupid idea. If you want to change your life, why wait for a new year? Change now.
Change because you want to, not because everyone else is, or it is the done thing, or you feel you ought to. It doesn't take a new year to start a new life.
So, instead of ye olde cliche, I bring on a few memes.
Which are equally cliche, but mean about as much in the long term.

*looks at the current world's population* You must have a lot of frustration then.
What pisses you off?

Wow. As memes go, that one is surprisingly accurate.
And, one I gacked from
misscam:
Don't you think Bush looks tired?
(If you get it, spread it around)
And my specially altered variation:
Don't you think Howard looks tired?
Yep, spread that one too.
Oh, and courtesy of
misscam's prediction Daleks for 2006, this is what my year shall bring:
"In 2006
drakyndra will have an unfortunate accident involving a Doctor Who action figure, John Howard's car and a vat of glittery pink haircolour. The incident will make BBC's 'In Other News' and spawn a whole new line of Aussie jokes involving John Howard action. The rest of the year,
drakyndra will spend all the money earned on interview rights on a ridiculous amount of Doctor Who stuff and exprimental haircare."

Man who run behind car, get exhausted.
New Year's Resolutions are silly. If you really wanted to change you would have already anyway. It's just silly consciousness trying to resist being commanded by emotions and genetics. Resistance is Futile.

Not everyone makes new year's resolutions for the same reasons.
Here are some other possibilities:
- it takes time to make a change. It takes time to prepare for a life-change, too. Particularly with giving things up, it can be good to have a tapering-off period followed by a definite cut-off date.
- if you want to do things for a particular amount of time, it's good to have a memorable date
- lots of people don't have a particular thing they want to do, so much as they want a project to work on during the year
- for the people who do take new year's resolutions seriously as a real prompt for change, doing it at the same time means they have support and company. That's not nothing.

Other people can make all the resolutions they want, but you won't see make anything coming from me.
