Why is it series two of doctor who, did the 30 years worth of seasons of the 1st to 7th doctor, not count?

For no good reason it seems to bother me that I've watched a lot of the original doctor who and pretty much read it all (not the fanfiction) but suddenly all these people are calling themselves dr. who fans who would have to watch the first season a hundred times to have watched nearly as much dr who as me, I think it's just upsetting that some people seem to be forgetting that there was lot of doctor who before the newest series came out, bah, I'm probably just upset I haven't seen the christmas special yet

I'm calling it series two because that's what the production team/official advertising/whatever is calling it. I am aware that in reality it is actually the 28th season, but this way gets the message across to most of the people I talk about it with, and, you'know, it is series two of the New Series.

And sweetheart, I've done an awful lot of reading up in the last few months. Though if you want me to watch more, you could always lend me some of your videos...

And you haven't yet seen the Christmas special? Shame on you!
