And... I think I loved it. Not nearly so much as School Reunion, which was awesome, but I really did like it a lot.

More later.

Also, it seems it has caused the fandom to go into meltdown - which just makes me like it even more.

(I have come to the conclusion that I am very contrary. I like characters that get a lot of bashing - Mickey, Jackie, even Adam to an extent. I defend Rose amongst old-schoolers, but when I come across n00bs fangirling her, I can't stand her. I am rather fond of Six's coat. And an episode that gets the fandom into uber-wank automatically gets put up a few notches.

I have no idea what this is saying about me, really.)

Oh, I'm going to need some new icons...

I'm sort of torn over this episode, really.

On the one hand, it was brilliant (scary, funny and sad at the very same time), and I loved it.

On the other hand, however, I'm still not sure whether to regard the Doctor as wholly in character when he thinks he might be stuck on Earth for the next 3000 years. He could have shown a bit of concern for two companions stuck on that spaceship. And I'm not saying this as a Doctor/Rose shipper, just as someone who thought that the Doctor always cares.

Of course, he might have found another way to get back to them, but the episode itself didn't say so...

But yeah, it seems to be pretty much the maximum credible accident for some parts of fandom, and that's rather ridiculous.

I have no idea what this is saying about me, really.

...that you do like fandom_wank? :D

I've somehow justified that moment in my head, coming down to the fact that Reinette was an actually historical figure who didn't die for a few more years, and so he had to save her. And the fact that Ten does seem a little "act first, consider the consequences later" - which actually works rather well with the hubris theme this series appears to have. It's not just pride before a fall, it's actions have consequences. And that's what School Reunion was about, that's what the Torchwood stuff is about, and considerin the Cyberman are supposedly back for the finale, I bet that's what they are about, too.

The thing is, even if he didn't say he had a a way back, the fact that I can think of half a dozen options off the top of my head shows it isn't the hardest thing to handwave. And I think his "Oh, shit!" face when he looked back at the broken mirror was him realising just what he had done.

Oh, I do agree with everything you say. I would just have liked to hear him say "Oh, shit!" out loud, so to speak...

My reaction to this week was actually kind of 'meh' - and I've liked every episode of the new series so far. At first, it seemed that everyone just loved it - the Asexualists were mostly content to say that -Hey, at least he's kissing someone with class and not that FILTHY CHAV WHORE: and now she ded. While the madshippers see it as a shiny opportunity for comfort!sex, I imagine, though they are a little upset about him abandoning Rose for that FILTHY FRENCH WHORE.

The only really negative reactions I've seen to it personally were on the TWoP boards.... though it's mixed with people filled with squee.
Are you going to be putting this stuff on F_W?

I've just finished watching it for a second time, and I think my opinion of it has actually gone quite up a bit. It didn't make me cry like last week, but it still came awfully close. And it was so beautiful, and shallow thing that I am, that really does work for me. This has nothing to do whatsoever with the fact that back when I did ballet, my favourite ever costume was in that exact style

But I was shocked at how overt the hate was at TWOP. I can understand the few at the OG that are like that, because you get a lot of asexualists, and new series haters, but TWOP is overwhelmingly positive. Perhaps it is all the extreme Rose!love they have at that forum. (Note: Rose = not my fave character. But I liked her a lot more this week than the past few)

Well... There was that remark about 'break a mirror; seven years bad luck. How about three thousand?' Or something. Damn. Need to watch again quickly.

Yeah, Mickey's one of my favourite characters too. I'm hoping he gets more airtime now he's part of the entourage.

I agree with the 'Act now, think later'-tendency Ten has. Him going down because of that would be awesome to behold.

OT: may I friend you?

Supposedly the upcoming two parter is a big one for Mickey. I'm looking forward to it.

And I think it works very well, as I mention above: the God-complex and then a fall, actions and consequences. I have a theory about how the season is going, and this ep feeds into it very well character-wise, if not so much plot-wise.

Sure, friend away.
