In a move that is shocking probably no-one, there seems to be yet more silliness going around in Doctor Who fandom.

However, rather than wank, we seem to have attracted an outraged "Think of the children!" type, who is utterly shocked, shocked that people are publicly writing "immoral and degenerate writings" about a children's show. Obviously, she's never seen the Harry Potter fandom.

The thing that has captured my interest the most is how on earth our Helen Lovejoy (namely [livejournal.com profile] nyssaisbest) managed to stumble across the fic in question.

See, the writer of said fics, [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1 isn't exactly a BNF. She's one of the more prolific Ten/Martha writers, admittedly, but that just makes her a prolific member of a minority ship. (Yes, it's a minority ship. One of the larger minority ships, but still one that's a minority) As far as I am aware she doesn't post her fics anywhere other than LJ. She doesn't have a huge flist.

So, as far as I'm aware, the only awareness of her fics is for the 900-odd members of [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha, any members of [livejournal.com profile] smith_n_jones who aren't also in LoM, and whoever's read the relevent [livejournal.com profile] who_daily post. In total, that's what, 1000-2000 people? Tiny compared to the internet.

So, why [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1? If someone has a problem with adult fic, why not go after one of the BNFs? Or one of the adult fics on the Teaspoon, which is easily googlable, and just this week has had fics with overt sexual references in the title? Why, when she has the entire of the internet and Doctor Who fandom to be outraged by, is the one person she's decided to make her stand against "filth" to, a prolific but not hugely known author in small corner of fandom?

I just don't get it.

(I'll also add that the apparent "real" name [livejournal.com profile] nyssaisbest - Susan Costello - is terribly reminiscent of a certain Torchwood character, which does nothing to ease suspicions of someone sockpuppeting)

Oh fandom. *shakes head*

On the subject of fandom, that Doctor/Martha ship manifesto I am doing is due in in a week. Just a reminder if there are any recs, quotes, ideas or whatever else you want me to include, here's the post to let me know.

*This post title was brought to you by the exceedingly silly conversations I had over dinner today, in which we amused ourselves by seeing just how much more hilarious everything became when "...IN YOUR PANTS!" was affixed on the end of sentences.

Indeed. It's all angst angst angst or crappilyhappily ever after. (Well, and lots of Doctor/Master slash. Which I love, but sometimes I'd like to read some het, too, you know?)

Also: I'd like to see more long, plotty fic with Martha. Not necessarily shippy, but just plot stuff involving Martha. Though I have seen very little plotty stuff that didn't involve bloody parallel universe reunions as of late.

I'm waiting for [livejournal.com profile] violetisbest's sequel to her fic "Nothing but Flowers". I suspect it will be wonderfully plotty, smutty and long.

But I know what you mean about lack of Martha fic. Unless you are hanging out at LoM, the only Martha fic you tend to find is ones that have her standing back helping Ten reunite with his precious Rose.

And I'm starting to think we need to fight those all reunion fics with fire, as they seem to be choking the life out of this fandom

I've vaguely been considering having a [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha Martha ficathon, sometime after the [livejournal.com profile] telling_a_story thing is over and done with.

We need an S3 ficathon at some point, anyway.

I've been sort of thinking the same thing for LoM as well. There was also a suggestion we could do an Advent type thing for Martha too, that wouldn't necessarily have to be fan fic... could be graphics, fan mixes, art, fic.

Just this weekend, I had a very interesting challenge idea of "anyone but Ten" where you could have Martha interact with any DW-verse character, but Ten couldn't be one of them. So many possibilities, but challenges have never worked well at LoM.

Well, I'd hold of on anything until the Story comm challenge is over and done with.

But occasionally putting up posts that take suggestions for comm activities - which those of us who miss out on the chats can access - might get some discussion and enthusiasm going for something more.

I wasn't planning on doing anything right now. Was more thinking of Oct, Nov, Dec time frame.

But a suggestion post about what activities members would like to see happening wouldn't be a bad idea.

Maybe I'll do that after I get that Mod thing done.

*bounces up and down impatiently*

Yes, we all need that.
