Do not click this unless you want some BIG HONKING HUGE spoilers for the finale of Torchwood S2. As in actual confirmation, not just rumours of things to happen.

Oh man, there is going to be some epic wank from fandom once this airs. It looks like some people have already started on certain places online...

(Also: Expect lots of BIG HONKING HUGE spoilers in the comments, also.)

ETA: I predict I may, at some point, have to duplicate this old post of mine.

Oh god, this is going to be epic but kind of scary. I'm going to hide away with some chocolate until it's over (also until I've come to terms with it).

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It is going to epic. Just wait until we start getting all the hate on the replacement characters, whether rumour holds and it's Martha or not.

Going by past form, that wank's never going to end.

From: [identity profile] shaggydogstail.livejournal.com

Oh, god, I think I'm going to cry. Too upset to wank. *sniffles*

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I'm not sure if I haven't quite come to terms with things, if I've just discovered that I don't care enough, or if the people shreiking about how this is obviously made up are amusing me too much to get upset yet.

I'll cry when I actually watch it, though.

From: [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com

Less epic than if it had been Ianto, but fandom is still very likely certain to go boom, yes.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Is it wrong that I'm too busy being thrilled at the impending wank to worry about the actual content?

From: [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com

I feel kind of bad that I seem to be the only person who really doesn't mind the prospect of losing Tosh and Owen. And I'm looking forward to impending wank and Jack/Ianto/Gwen h/c shagging in fic. So I'm even more wrong than you...

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I don't care about Tosh at all, really - the production team seems to be allergic to giving her any form of ongoing character arc - so I don't care either way. Owen has only really interested me since he became zombified.

To be honest, if we do get Martha as a full-time replacement, I'll be pleased.

...And I'm still looking forward to the wank more than anything else.

From: [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com

I'm reading some of the threads now. If I had a pound for every time someone brings up that interview where Burn Gorman mentioned being in season 3... (I've been good and only responded two or three times with "yes, and Billie Piper said she was in season 3 of Doctor Who")

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Hey, it might still be true. Flashbacks, memories, what have you.

Or, you know, the lying thing.

From: [identity profile] biichan.livejournal.com

It's weird, but I don't know if I mind anymore either. I mean, I like her, but I'm not really invested in any of the Torchwood characters enough to get upset if they leave. Now the SJA, that would be a different thing altogether.

From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com

I seem to be the only person who really doesn't mind the prospect of losing Tosh and Owen

They've written Owen into a corner. It's a pity because it finally showed what Burn can do when he's got something to work with, but there's nowhere to go with his character with this whole zombie thing.

And Tosh - Fragments seems to exist to spike her as well, along with the whole "black widow" thing going on.

What fascinates me is that bogus spoiler that went around a while back - remember? That Torchwood would lose half its cast (possibly true) but they listed the *other* half as leaving!

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Hey, as fond as I am of zombie!Owen, it was pretty obvious as soon as that line about not knowing how long the energy lasted that they'd just given themself an excuse to get rid of Burn at any time.

But Tosh... critical failure to anything much whatsoever with the character.

I don't remember that at all. Got a link or anything?

From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com

I don't remember a link because I thought it was such bullshit that they'd kill of half the cast and get rid of Captain Jack. Well, obviously they can't get rid of Captain Jack... but it turns out that Tosh and Owen aren't the characters they're *keeping* if these new spoilers are true.

From: [identity profile] malaleen.livejournal.com

Hmmm, should be an interesting few weeks I suppose.

Though I feel like I should care more about the spoilers. Ah well.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I'm currently more interested in watching fandom that the episode itself.

I'll still probably bawl when I see it, but right now? I'm LOLing over fandom.

From: [identity profile] hacked2death.livejournal.com

Change is good. It's a given the Doc will always be around in some form or another, and I don't think there's going to be too much death on Who, but having the more adult show vunerable is a brilliant idea. It's one good way of getting Martha back for good after s4's finale.

The only thing I find disappointing is that Tosh won't get to meet the Doc again. I don't know why, I thought that would be a cool moment..

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Tosh meeting the Doctor would be rather interesting. I imagine they'd get on rather well, actually. Though, I don't think they'd work as a Doctor-Companion team for audiences - the Doctor's personality would steamroll all over Tosh's.

From: [identity profile] hacked2death.livejournal.com

Nah, I'd just like a moment or two between them.

Doctor - I remember you.
Tosh - You don't look familiar....

From: [identity profile] shannonsequitur.livejournal.com

I don't really watch Torchwood due to complete apathy towards pretty much all of the characters, so I've been saying for months (even before we knew about Martha's departure from DW, actually) that the show would be vastly improved by Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies, thus leaving Jack and Martha (and possibly Mickey at this rate *crosses fingers*) to fight crime.

Since maybe the BBC is listening to me after all, I want Bill Nighy for the Eleventh Doctor, with two full-time companions. I'd also like my own pony.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's not so much Everyone as Rocks Fall, Half the Case Dies.

But that's some neat little power you have there...

From: [identity profile] shannonsequitur.livejournal.com

It's actually a pretty crappy power. My serious, considered speculation always ends up dead wrong, whereas jokey throwaway remarks end up having a kernel of truth.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

It's says a lot about me that this is what popped into my head, but I'm suddenly reminded of a HP fandom crack theory someone had, which noted that random sarcastic comments Ron made had an uncannily large proportion end up coming true.

You have Ron-like prophecy powers!

From: [identity profile] hacked2death.livejournal.com

Please also wish for me the return of Sophie Aldred, I'd be happy then ;)

From: [identity profile] in-the-end.livejournal.com

I, too, am looking forward to fandom's reaction. Although, there won't be much time to deal with it as S4 starts less than 24 hours after the finale of TW airs. I'm not fussed at all about Tosh, but Owen... Well, I've become quite attached to him this year.

I've convinced myself that Martha will be joining TW next year, which IMO, will be good, and I'm looking forward to it. However, I'm trying not to think about the set report that [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4 posted on LoM last week, where Mickey leaves with Martha and Jack, because OMG, HOW. BLOODY. AWESOME????

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

True, true on the time difference - which will be even less notable for us overseas types. And I'm with you on the Tosh vs Owen stuff (though it took Owen being a zombie for him to catch my interest).

Martha being in TW seems more likely than not, in my guessing. Mickey is far more of a crack theory, but if true, yes, COMPLETE AND UTTER AWESOMENESS.

From: [identity profile] doylefan22.livejournal.com

Why did they have to change this to Friday?

I'm going on holiday Friday morning and won't see it until I get back! I'm going to miss all the wank! Er....I mean, the episode...

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

*is mildly gloaty about time zones meaning I'll be getting said episode the middle of Saturday*

Sad to see Tosh go, but they wasted her on Torchwood anyway - never really gave her some development.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that I'll start laughing. You know, that however serious they'll try to be, it'd be such crack that I don't believe it.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I agree with you on that: Tosh really never did get much of a decent plot.

And I know I'll most likely cry when I watch it. And then get deeply, deeply amused as I watch fandom freak.

From: [identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com

Or it could go the way of the DH potterocalypse (or whatever it was called) amd not actually happen because everyone's done all their wanking over the next few days.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

True, there is that.

I do expect another flare up of bashing and wank once it's announced who's replacing Tosh and Owen, no matter who it actually is.

From: [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com

Maybe they'll replace Tosh with her hitherto-unmentioned identical twin (or cousin), the Dr Sato who met Nine in Aliens of London.
