So, that was fun. Not the most fun I have ever had - I really need to get to more cons with fan-run discussion panels, instead of just Q&As with celebs. Or at least with more celebs I really care about. And I need to find some people I know to attend these things with me, for added lulz factor. Also, it was bloody hot in the building.
But yeah, it was a decent waste of a day.
Saw the cosplay contest (at least until it was almost over and everyone was starting to trail off boredly), saw Yuri Lowenthal's panel, was going to go to Gareth David-Lloyd's one, but decided I couldn't be bothered waiting for the crowd.
Wandered around looking at the non-competition cosplayers. There were the usual suspects in terms of who they dressed as, some utterly cracktastic ones, some amusingly bad ones - I'm looking at you, cardboard box gundams - and some really good ones, even outside the contest. There was a rather decent Suzaku wandering around, and half-way through the day he ended up changing outfits, from Knight of Seven to Knight of Zero. I have a picture of him, I think. Bless, his mum made the costume.)
And of course looking at all the stalls and merchandise and whatnot. I got some manga I've read but didn't own (including the last volume of Hellsing); second season of Black Lagoon, since I'd given up on JB Hi-Fi ever getting it in (Naturally, the contacted me a couple of hours later to say it had arrived); a Death Note (...what?); a spiffy white blouse from the gothic lolita shop; and a keyring that smells like cake. Really.
Oh, and there were also the signings. Cue evil laugh.
Anyway, Yuri Lowenthal is a lovely, lovely man and I have decided I won't hear a word against him. Not only did he sign my Code Geass boxset and have a picture with me, but when I asked him to say something for me to record, not only did he say what
robotloveI suggested, no problems, but when I showed him the picture it was from, he asked for another take so he could make it sound, and I quote, "more passionate."
Oh yeah.
...Yes, that is in all likelihood the most shamelessly fangirly thing I have ever done.I regret nothing!
Now who's going to record Johnny Yong Bosch saying Lelouch's part?

Last time I went though there were like a billion CG cosplayers though, which was fun, especially when they started acting stuff out.

I only saw a couple yesterday. The awesome Suzaku, a C.C. who I was chatting to in the autograph line, and there was a Euphie and an Ashford!Lelouch wandering around. I may have missed some.

I wish I had spoken to some of them, but I'm not really one to just walk up to people and start talking to them, usually.

Asking for a photo of their costume is a good way to start a conversation, I've found.

Huh. I'll have to try that sometime, I suppose. There were definitely a few costumes I saw that truly blew my mind and I should have gotten a picture of.

Well, generally people who put a lot of effort into their cosplay don't at all mind the chance to talk about it. So long as you don't interrupt them when they are doing something. It's a sign people are impressed by what they've done.

Oh, and since I really don't like using the review reply button on ff.net...
Good call (like, nearly psychic).
Also, since I doubt I've said it before, just wanted to mention that your reviews always make me smile, because good reviews are just so damn hard to come by, and yours are some of the best because its more than mindless praise (not that I mind being told I'm awesome... *grins*).
I never really bother with replying to reviews, but I do want to show appreciation (which I guess is usually best expressed by writing more), so there we go.

I'm not psychic, I'm just genre savvy. Though feel free to attribute whatever mystical powers to me as you so desire.
I don't think my reviews are that great - they're really just me babbling about things I found interesting and/or amusing. But hey, I think everyone likes to know they are appreciated.
And writing more is always good appreciation!

I went to Gareth David-Lloyd's panel, the line wasn't so bad, and I ended up about halfway down the seating. It was pretty fun, though I can't remember anything specific he said. But the line was massive, which was kind of funny, because when I went to get my DVD signed there was no-one there and I basically walked straight up to him.

When I was in the hallway, the line was massive, and I just couldn't be arsed.
I will admit, I half wanted to go to see if any crazy "Ianto must liiive!" types showed up.From:

I love you both. So much ♥ And I shall second that decision about not hearing a word against him.
If I'm not wrong JYB appears to have spent his weekend in Hawaii at Kawaii Kon (however you spell it. I think I got it right). Would have tried getting my friend there to ask him for the lines but by the time I found out she was heading to the panel it was a bit too late. Oh well.
His part is going to be considerably tougher anyhow ;D*so ditzy now*

Re: icon does not fully express my fangirly joy
And he totally deserves hearts. ♥
Now that I think about it, JYB was in Melbourne for a convention a year or two ago, but that was before I watched Code Geass, so I had him sign some Trigun stuff. And even now, I'd probably still chose him to sign that - sorry Lelouch, but Vash is, well, Vash.

Oh and yes, agreeing that cons are much more fun with like-minded friends. I've generally stopped going to the ones here because there were too many sweaty bodies, crazy people, and not enough stuff that interested me. We get the Japanese stars coming down for Anime Festival Asia, but thus far there have been none I'm familiar with.
also your video is now making its rounds on tumblr :D
I never watched much of CG's dub, admittedly, but I remember thinking Yuri's performance in the last Turn at least was more impressive than JYB's. (But then again it probably is impossible to meet the standards of FukuJun's ridiculous DRAMATICFABULOUSGRAND!voice without sounding like a retard in English)

Re: icon does not fully express my fangirly joy
Lulz, my 15 minutes of Internetz fame.
I've seen most of the series with the dub, actually - though I have both, and have done a bit of compare and contrast. And I agree that FukuJun wins out at ~FABULOUS~ or Zero stuff, though I think I like JYB best in the lower-key Lelouch moments (FukuJun sometimes sounds too old for a school boy to me, and it throws me off).
From:
Re: icon does not fully express my fangirly joy
Hm! I began my rewatch of Season 1 recently and yes, it seems that FukuJun deepened his voice considerably in R2 as opposed to the schoolboy moments heard in Season 1. While we're comparing though, I have to say I cringe at Nunnally's dub voice. Ouch.
From:
Re: icon does not fully express my fangirly joy
And Nunnally is... not great. Though she improves a lot for the last few episodes of R2, thank goodness.
