Well, that was an experience.

I just spent a couple of hours at a hospital emergency ward because a bug flew into my ear and couldn't get out.

And then it died and the doctor had to vacuum it out. (Using a special... ear vacuum thing).

Though at least that was an improvement over earlier, when I could feel it flapping around inside my ear. I don't particularly want to do that again.

Yeah, I think I've had quite enough of being a living urban legend for one night.

Yuck. I realise that's not a significant contribution to the discussion, but yuck.

I had a patient once who came in with an ant in her ear. We spent half an hour running around trying to find the parrafin liquid - apparently you're supposed to use something oil-based to kill the beasty and float it out at the same time. Me and the then-intern cheerfully returned with our conquest to find that the ant was, in fact, already crawling around on her cheek.

The moral of the story : A bottle of olive oil is a useful thing.

Also, I have never seen one of those vacuum things for ears, but it sounds awfully useful.

We were at the Ear and Eye hospital, so they might have more specialised equipment for that sort of thing.

You're such a kind and loving friend.

It was a weirdly amusing experience. Except for the part where I could feel it flapping around in my ear. That was freaky.

I think we have somewhat different sense of humour. (I was honestly surprised I didn't end up having nightmares about it all.)

Oh my GOD, I can't even imagine how much I would've freaked out if I went through that. Even a bug buzzing by my ear is enough to set me off. I really hope you'll never have to go through any of that ever again!

It is not an experience I would recommend, certainly.

... that... that is definitely not something I want to try. Ever.

Rationally speaking I think I could handle it if it just picked my ear for a deathbed, but to have it FLYING AROUND INSIDE would just drive me crazy.

Yeah, the flapping was not the most fun thing ever. It caused a certain amount of flailing
