So, I got home from dinner with my father to find that at some point while I was out, there ,must have been a power surge or something at the iPartment.

And it managed to kill the power supply on my computer. We think.

Which really, really bites.

If it's the power supply, I may have things fixed by tomorrow evening. If it's not, or if I've lost data too - well, things won't be at all fun.

I'm currently on a kinda dodgy antique-ish laptop of the HouseMatt; tomorrow I may spend some time at the Uni labs, seeing what I can get done. Or I might just try and sleep in.

Either way, I'm really not happy right about now.
Firstly, welcome to n00bs from the Code Geass friending meme! Feel free to enjoy my excessive doses of random silliness. You can backread if you want, but my current lack of old tags *pointed look at LJ staff* will make things a bit more difficult to work through.

But anyway, I suppose on the plus side of not being highly productive at the moment is that I have more time to do random shit around the iPartment. Like, for instance, actual cooking experiments.

Well, not so much experiments, since it's following recipes, but I made pasta primavera last night and it was actually quite nice (even if I do now have another two days worth of pasta now sitting in the fridge). Plus I have ingredients in the fridge for vegetable soup (again), and a curry with tofu and sweet potato.

...I think I just wanted to have some fresh vegetables, really.

So new Harry Potter movie means new Harry Potter ship wank. I don't know what fandom would be like without it. Never change, HP fandom, never change.

I still haven't seen that movie. Anyone free later this week for a visit at some time soon?

Also (and I think [livejournal.com profile] lizbee will like this one), people now have evidence that there is such thing as flying squid. I eagerly await the inevitable terrible horror movie that this discovery will inspire.

ETA: On Twitter, the current topics trending all seem to be about either the North and South Korea thing... or Joss Whedon. What interesting priorities you have, Twitterverse.
So, Iron Man 2 last night. Really pretty fun, though not as good as the first one. It certainly had it's moments, though.

...And no-one much will able to talk about this until the end of the week because of us getting an early release for once. Huh.

But dinner and the movie with friends were a perfectly acceptable waste of an evening. Even if I was mildly disappointed in the absence of veggie dumplings at the place we went to. I HAZ A CRAVING.

And now The New Housemate is watching his new Avatar DVD in the living room. I suspect its ~*~revolutionary special effects~*~ will be somewhat less dramatic on our little TV.
So, yesterday after I went into Uni to hand in my SSRM assignment, I headed over to the Friendly Neighbourhood Anime Shop Of Dubious LegalityTM. Because I plan on doing very little other than sitting around and watching anime for the next few days.

And within 5 hours of me getting the Darker Than Black boxset, The New Housemate was sitting on the couch watching it. I hadn't even taken off the wrapper yet.

Admittedly, I wasn't planning on watching just yet. Still got enough of my To Watch list to work through. I'm currently two thirds of the way through Full Metal Panic, which I am liking. A highly trivial reason for this: First anime I've come across in which people shout my name a lot. Seriously, check out this video from 1:10 for the next thirty seconds. And the shouter is apparently also C.C.'s voice. Huh.

In other anime news, trailer and pictures for the next lot of Gurren Lagann Parallel Works, which looks very, very shiny.

And Code Geass seems to be doing that thing they claim that exciting new things might be coming, and then don't actually say anything. They're such publicity whores.
Oh, it really is such a small world. Especially when you come from Hamilton.

So, it turns out that my sister's BFF and housemate turns out to know my New Housemate - they went to school together.

And to think I had no idea he was even from Hamilton until after he moved in. Huh.

Anyway, I'll be heading off to Mum's with The Sister (and getting a lift from The New Housemate) tomorrow morning. Don't know exactly which day I'll be back here - Monday evening, maybe? And so goes my weekend of Easter and stuff-getting goodness.

I'll probably be online for a bit over the weekend, though I don't know how much time I'll have.

So, happy Easter, everyone! Try not to overdose on chocolate.
Congratulate me, O Flist, for I have discovered the most irritating sound in the world!

It is that horrible beeping noise mobile phones make when their battery is running low and they need to be recharged.

Particularly when:
A) It's not coming from my phone;
B) It's not coming from The HouseMatt's phone;
C) It is coming from somewhere in the iPartment; and
D) I can't work out where in the iPartment it is coming from.

Yes, I am being haunted by a ghostly mobile phone (with a low battery). Don't ghosts have chargers these days?

I wonder how much longer I can last before I go completely bonkers and start drawing on the walls
So, this afternoon, our hot water heater sprung a leak.

Aaand the plumber won't be showing up until some time tomorrow. (No, I don't have any more precise time frame than that. Just... tomorrow).

So the iPartment is currently without hot water.

Great.

*sigh*

On a less irritating note, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] csakuras I do believe, we have some fannish trivia I have just found out: Apparently, Hiromu Arakawa is a mother! Oh, and her son is about two years old - which means she managed to give birth and raise a baby without ever getting behind schedule on Fullmetal Alchemist.

Which is really quite impressive.

Actually, there's some speculation over at that link that the time frame explains a hospitalisation of hers a few years back (Just after the ED NOT DED thing) - which, if I have my dates correct, means that her baby was born at about the time that I started reading the manga month by month. O_O
FUCK YEAH NEW COMPUTER CHAIR! *\o/* Well, got for Christmas sort of new, anyway.

...SHUT UP, MY NEW COMPUTER CHAIR IS AWESOME! And you'd think so too, if you'd spent the last four years with an old chair you'd yoinked from a nature strip. (Look, it was free, and I am a Uni student. The logic there is obvious. I just had to put up with the fact that the stuffing of the seat was leaking, and it was no longer adjustable)

Look, it spins and goes up and down and I can roll around my room, and the back can be adjusted! It actually has a decent back...

Okay, I probably ought to cut back on the spinning, it's making me dizzy.

Anyway, last night I went to the tennis with Mum and The Sister. First match was Lleyton Hewitt versus Baghdatis, which started out with a set and a half of Hewitt trouncing Baghdatis, before Baghdatis retired due to injury. Which may explain said trouncing.

This was admittedly somewhat disappointing, given the two have something of a history of epic matches, but what can you do?

Next match was between two female players whom I had never heard of before. Which ended up rather more interesting than the first one, even if it was a straight sets victory, mainly because at least there were some decent rallies going on before people won.

Look at me, talking like I know shit about tennis...
Hey, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, you seem to have left some clothes here in the bathroom. Just what should I actually do with them, since I really have no idea.

On a similar note, I need your new address so I can forward mail to you. Via PM or email or whatever is fine, I just can't recall all your new details right now, and I assume you'll want your mail.

In other news, today I went to [livejournal.com profile] lena_supercat's birthday barbecue, which was fun and meant I could catch up with lots of people whom I haven't seen in a while. And, you know, having generally geeky conversations as we hung out by the Yarra. Which was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Apart from the sunburn. Ouch.

In fannish news, I read the newest Jasper Fforde book, Shades of Grey, and rather liked it despite it being rather darker and less comedic than his other books. Pun not intended. Anyone else read it or know of somewhere I could chat on it?

Oh, and over in wankdom, Victoria Bitter has decided to leave fandom! FOR REALZ!!one! Does it count as pseudocide if you say you still have 6 weeks to live?

And in serious news: So, I hear it really sucks to be in Haiti about now. I must go through the stuff at [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti and see if any fan-artists/icon makers/fic writers I like are offering their services.
And I am now in possession of a shiny new housemate, whom still I require a snappy nickname for. And it only took one car crash for him to get his stuff here!

...Yeah, apparently there was an incident with his car driving here. The front of it is kind of smashed up. But hey, no-one was injured.

And the iPartment now actually has someone who owns a car. Go us.

Incidentally, I am incredibly, incredibly greatful for the cool change. The weather has been utterly ridiculous for the last few days. And I don't sleep well in hot weather.

And I am now deficient one housemate, now that [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away has spread her wings for the distant shores of... New South Wales.

Okay, not that distant, but still. She has gone, *sniff* and The New Guy (Who is going to be referred to as such until I come up with a snappy nickname for him) has yet to actually move in, even if his bedroom furniture is down in the store room.

...Which means I am very shortly going to be the Token Female of the iPartment. I am not entirely certain how I feel about this. I must come up with a plot for making the boys my minions, since obviously I am the boss around here

On the plus side, most of the kitchen and living room stuff now belongs to me. And the dodgy washing machine. Thrilling, I know, but hey, more bookshelf space.

And in fannishness and a much more cheerful note, since FMA scanlations don't seem to be up yet and the episode with new OP and ED isn't until tomorrow, I give you THE RETURN OF BATZAKU! (Yes, remember that staggeringly brilliant idea I became enthralled with a few months ago?)

Courtesy of some random artist I found on DeviantArt. Also featuring Lelouch crushing Suzaku's dreams.
Well, it's a bit late now, but Happy New Year, all! (And for the Doctor Who fans, Happy New Doctor, since that has taken over my flist as of late.)

I've been busily socialising over the past few days, hence the lack of postiness.

On New Year's Eve I went over to Tristan's. It conveniently started raining just as I got off the tram, so we ended up sitting in his kitchen and/or living room, eating drinking and drunkenly watching anime (Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu, for the record. There was a drinking game). Oh, and at Midnight we went outside and stood at the tram stop shelter to watch the fireworks. Because that's the way to celebrate, donchaknow?

Friday was [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's going away thing here. (Yeah, in a week or so I is losing a housemate. *wipes away emo tear* And I am yet to come up with a snappy nickname for the new one) There were about 20 people or so who showed up. And we had drinking and pizza and ridiculousness. And I wasn't actually the first person drunk, huzzah!

And yesterday, I was intending to go to one of the comedy gigs at 303 in Northcote. Of course, they were sold out, and in my great good fortune I didn't find out about this until I actually got there. In Northcote. Which was a waste of tram ride, and caused much grumpiness.

So instead I went back to the city and had a nutella crepe. Because what can't be solved with the judicious application of nutella crepes? Listening to Won't See Me Coming from Gankutsuou on repeat is also rather theraputic when one is annoyed, I have found.

Hopefully, things should be settling down a bit for now. Well, at least until next weeks housemate changeover...
Oh amusement.

So, I put out my presents for [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and the HouseMatt, since I honestly have no idea if I'm going to get another chance to see those two before, well, Christmas, what with heading off tomorrow.

So, when [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away got home from work, and started frantically rushing around to put my present together, she didn't have any cards left.

So, instead she drew my one. With a chibi Ed Elric in a Santa hat on the front.

It's really quite adorable. I'll have to take a picture or scan or whatever at some point.

Yes, it was blatantly inspired by the fact that when she asked for a few minutes to get things I ready, I told her I'd kill time watching the newest FMA episode.

And now I must pack for Christmas, since I've scrounged a lift with The Sister and her BFF tomorrow morning. God, I am getting so damned fed up with all this packing.

No idea how likely I am to update/read my flist over the next week or so. Depends on how busy I am, and how much Internet time I have.

But Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/[insert holiday greeting of your choice here] all!
So it turns out the inexplicable extra bandwidth was not a mistake after all! Just a change in the Internet plan set up. Which, well, I can so totally live with.

Also, I just played several games of a Cthulu based card game. I was winning the first game, until I lost my sanity. But I actually won the second game! And I didn't go insane! Huzzah! \o/

And in more serious news, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away just got an interstate job offer. Which is wonderful news for her and all, but it does mean that, as of the middle of January, the iPartment is going to be one person down. So, if any of guys in Melbourne are looking for a house to share - or know of someone who is - let me know ASAP, and we can talk over email or AIM or something about the details.

...Yeah, getting a new housemate is kinda important about now.
BATZAKU!

This is why [livejournal.com profile] khallandra is my favourite. Gold star for you, BB! Thanks for the lulz!

...Very fitting for Halloween, doncha think? Kind of makes up for my complete absence of Halloween parties. There was, however, a rather appropriate lightning storm a few minutes ago. And on the way home from Interning yesterday, our tram went past a car that was randomly on fire. At 7 pm. In the middle of Melbourne.

What is less entertaining is the fact that, according to [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, our washing machine is dying. Yeah, that really bites.
Well, that didn't go too badly at all. Didn't even end up with epic sleep failure like I expected, either.

But yes, there was a weekend! And I actually did things! I am astounded, too.

On Friday was [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's thing. Which initially looked like it was going to be a washout, because of all the piking pikers, but people did eventually show up. Gradually, and mostly quite late, but hey. There was chatty funtimes and silly and pizza and alacamahols. I drank my blackberry vodka I got in Jordan! Um, all of it. Which may kind of explain why [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away cut me off at like 11.

Though I'm not sure anything can explain why she made me wear that pirate hat. Such is life.

But 'twas fun.

Then on Saturday, I went to Armageddon. Which was also fun, though I think I have been to better cons, even in my limited experience. The panels I went to were alright, though there weren't many I was interested in, and yet again I ran into That Person I Run Into At Conventions, which makes three for three conventions this year (Her name is Matty... I think. I hope it is, because she remembered my name) I caught up with [livejournal.com profile] connikins at the end of the day, and we hung out for a bit, and had something to eat over at Crown.

I ended up buying some comics and a few manga volumes (Utena and Detroit Metal City, to be precise, and yes I can see the contrast there). And a Dr Horrible DVD. And some cat ears, because they made me dawww. Considered buying some DVDs from Madman, but the ones that interested me were still a bit too expensive for my liking. Maybe I'll wait until JB Hi-Fi has a sale (or Anime shop of dubious legality gets some new stock)

As for the signings, I got Nicola Scott to sign the trade of Secret Six I just bought (She was fun, actually). Over at the animation signings, I got autographs from Laura Bailey aka Lust, and Travis Willingham aka Roy Mustang, who is very nice but spelt my name wrong. Incidentally, I chatted with them both about Brotherhood, and recording has started. Oh, and Travis has watched up to episode 19, and he is very much looking forward to recording that. Really. There was evil laughter involved.

Oh, and in what is becoming a convention tradition, I got photographed by some random dude, and I also got asked who I was cosplaying as. Which is slightly more justifiable than previous times, since I was wearing a kimono and a top hat.

...You know, one of these days, I am actually going to do what I have been tempted to, and claim that I am actually cosplaying as a character from some incredibly obscure (and completely fictional) anime no-one in Australia has heard of. Of course, that would entail having to come up with a name for it. And the character I am pretending to be. And possibly a plot if anyone asked.

Flist, you are totally welcome to help me invent a bullshit anime.

And today, there was the horror of having to go into Uni to complete our group assignment. Which actually went quite well (apart from the "going into Uni on Sunday morning" part of things). I basically just had to redo my work so I was citing things in footnotes rather than in text, and then help write the intro. And someone else is going to hand it in tomorrow, so that's that completed. Took less than two hours, even.

And that was my weekend. Onto reading that new Hitchhikers-Book-that-isn't-written-by-Douglas-Adams. Thus far, I don't hate it. It's not Douglas Adams, but I don't hate it. Any further opinions are pending.

So... hows about that new FMA:B episode? I hear Shit Went Down.
Oh God, CLASSMATES! >:(

You know what really bugs me? When you are doing a group project for Uni, and your group specifically decides (and emails everyone as a reminder) to ensure you work is uploaded the Thursday before it is due, so you have time in class for edits and reformatting and conclusions and stuff. And half the people don't bother. And it's due on Monday.

GRRR!

So now I have to head into Uni on Sunday morning, so we can meet up and sort that stuff out. Which is irritating and blatantly not fair. I finished my section on Tuesday

...Which means weekend reworking. I'll have to go to Armageddon on Saturday, since I don't know how long it'll take on Sunday. As far as I can tell, the only thing I'll be missing out on is the AMV winners, which is sad, but livable.

And on Friday evening, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away has decided to have an impromptu... something. Which will involve alcohol. Which I don't mind (Hey, party type things are always fun), per se, I just hope I get enough sleep.

...I have a social life again. No idea how that happened.
Oh, argh. Surprise Daylight Savings went and screwed up me good today, and that was on top of finding out in the middle of the night that my phone battery had died, and my phone didn't even have the decency to do that obnoxious beeping to remind me to recharge it. Which meant I missed several calls from my mother informing me she was in Melbourne and wanted me to come out for dinner with her and The Sister.

Yeah, that was kind of annoying.

On the plus side, the other day the HouseMatt came home utterly smashed, and proceeded to provide [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and me with much entertainment. And lulz. Lots and lots of lulz.

Amongst other things, we ended up quoting large chunks of Romeo and Juliet at each other. Don't ask me why, since as far as I am aware the HouseMatt was the only one who'd been drinking.

And so ends my mid-semester break. *sigh*

In fannish news, I really hope the translators are quick with this weeks FMA, because there is flailing about it on my flist, and judging from the screencaps I've seen, I really want to see it. (And then there's rumours the next episode is going to include some anime-only Hohenheim flashbacks, and, well, it's Hoho!flashbacks. How could I possibly resist?)

And I am totally open to discussions of Unseen Academicals, since I am finished (and looking at [livejournal.com profile] discworld, so have some others). I quite liked it, though that is a given seeing as it's a Discworld book. It doesn't top Night Watch or several others of my absolute favourites, but I'll have to reread before I decide about where it fits on my personal ratings
Sweet Tinkerbell Jesus.

I have carpet. Lots of carpet. Which is actually visible, instead of under piles of... stuff.

It's even theoretically white (Yeah, that probably wasn't the smartest move).

Wonders never cease.

Yeah, so further LJing shall be temporarily on hold for a bit, until after we've finished steam-cleaning the ridiculous white carpet. Or until the fumes have all cleared out. WHEE, FUMES!

Well, that was a rather productive day. Rather long day, too, since I had a 9am exam and in order to get to Uni and have breakfast and have time for last minutes going over my notes, I got up at some ridiculous hour.

Anyway, things what I achieved include:

- Exam. Duh. I know I passed and think I did decently on the short answer questions. The essay was rather craptastic, though.
- Haircut. Though it's nothing particularly different.
- iPartment Inspection. Not that I was actually here at the time, but hey, the Landlord isn't kicking us out or anything! \o/ We were just told the carpet needs cleaning.
- Catching up on TV episodes. Which was mostly just this weekends FMA, which I really liked. Kinda strange, given I never cared much for this arc in either the manga or the old anime. Ooh, the good stuff's just about to start...

...I never actually said anything about the last chapter of the manga, did I? Well, I'll just say it continued the trend of being EPICALLY AWESOME. Oh Arakawa, she loves us so.

Yeah, anyway, I now have only one exam to go, and that's next week. Go me.
