Good Lord, I seem to have a social life at the moment. That's kind of scary.
Anyway, Tuesday evening meant another CHAS meeting at The Pancake Parlor. (Mmm, pancakes...), which was as entertainingly random as ever, especially when we discovered plans for next semester, and the astounding fact that we actually have money.
And then, afterwards, we went to the movies. To see The Da Vinci Code.
I am sure a few of you are aware of my opinion of Dan Brown's books. So I wasn't expecting much from the movie. To be brief, I will just say that it was a lot better than the book - not that that is actually hard. I always said it read like a movie novelisation, and so the movie fit the story better. No painful prose or blocks of exposition that just piss me off, or the oh-so-Sueified personal descriptions.
So, it was okay. Watchable, but not particularly good. The Pirates of the Caribbean trailer was awesome, though.
Then, last night,
fa11ing_away had gone and arranged for a late Birthday dinner thing, so yay her! So
fa11ing_away,
punk_rock_nerd,
altheas,
lena_supercat,
de_chel,
knave_scurvy,
bellmeister,
ranorith and me went out and Mexican. Which is quite yummy and fun and all. Especially the part where I had rather too many margaritas.
And then we toddled up to The Croft Institute again (hurrah for weeknights and no entry charge!), which now official qualifies as AwesomeTM. Which was also yay fun. And Pink Grapefruit and Gin = yummers.
You know what? This social life thing, it is actually rather appealing. I can see why people go for it.
Also, My fandom is completely bonkers.
And The Cornfield and The HMS STFU have imploded somewhat, due to
vanceone being a misogynistic wanker. So naturally, when I am not being outraged, I discuss Doctor Who with a cool mouse.
Oh, and Rob Shearman remains awesome.

That post on T&C makes me use this emoticon 0_0 now for the first time. And I sat there sniggering while I read the post and the thread. I would have giggled, but I'm in a public computer room...
Is it me, or is fandom_wank now entirely populated with, if not DW, then at least David Tennant fans, pretty much down to you? (It may be biased, because I almost only see these things when you link to them, but it sure looks like it. :-))

It was hilarious, but in the best possible way. *loves her crazy crazy fandom*
Hmm... well, I have sort of gained a reputation as the token Doctor Who obsessive amongst certain people on f_w. I know there are at least two occasions where someone has mentioned Doctor Who in an entirely unrelated thread, and the next response was: *waits for
And there's the fact that f_w has a huge Harry Potter population - it's pretty much the biggest wank source these days. The fact that Tennant was in the movie got him huge exposure to a certain section of fandom. And so you get a lot of fans who remember him from Harry Potter, and thought he was kinda hot, and are interested in his other performances. And I am quite willing to pimp

And yay!birthday dinners.
Think Doctor Who will ever kill the HP-fandom? *will keep trying this.*

Birthday dinners are good. Particularly with margaritas. And sangria.
We can only keep trying.

And we can just keep going with it. Someday, we may actually achieve success. Particularly if a few other HP actors cross over to Doctor Who.

Ah yes, the pimping of the Tennant. :-) I should do that more. The problem is, when I try that IRL, I get the reaction 'Who?', and a response of 'The Doctor' wouldn't make any sense, since the whole series *hasn't* been broadcast yet on a Dutch channel, and even if it had, I doubt it would get as popular as it is on the other side of the Channel (or even world ;-)). So all I have to point towards is HP, and to be honest, I didn't actually like DT's performance in that all that much. Too OTT again.
I believe Casanova has been snuck in on DVD over here too. I've yet to find it, though. (Not that I need to. I own the British release.)

I talk about him a lot on my LJ (as you may have noticed...) and since most of my RL friends are on LJ too, I've managed to get a few that way. Plus the whole being in a bunch of Sci-Fi clubs, where my obsession is well known. And Casanova and Blackpool were on telly at the end of last year, which helps.

I personally could have BBC1 and BBC2 programmed in the place of NL1 and NL2, given the frequency that I watch them, but most people seem to prefer their drama and humour either in Dutch or at least subtitled. Yes, I did try. :-)
Actually, they (well, the first series) *have* been broadcast with Dutch subtitles. On one of the Belgian channels. But that was at four in the afternoon or some such, really weird timeslot. I'd warned a friend about them as she seemed interested, but she didn't manage to catch any of them.

People are weird, yes. Though I wish I had Ceefax on mine, because subtitles can be good.

Work's finished now (screwed up again, so 3 days of getting up early and leaving far too late for nothing). God, I need that coffee now ^^

I did an internship two years ago in one of my Uni's OrgChem departments. It happened twice that I had to run an ionic exchange collumn that always took me until late every evening, no matter if started early. Mostly because the compound I got out of it was so unstable it couldn't remain in solution overnight, and I was doing the column in H2O/EtOH so evaporating the solvent took *hours*.
XWA
Did that even make sense? I have this vague recollection that you did something chemistry related, but I might be confusing you with

Scrimgeour; hmm, I dunno. I'd imagined *him* as a lot younger than TB, so I guess that doesn't quite work. :-)

So yeah, that made sense. Didn' know you were 'one of us', too! :) EtOH alone is bad enough, but with H2O? gaaaaaah!
I actually liked my OrgChem time. Lots of free time to be on the net and faaar to much coffee. Same as now in the Genetics department when I think about it ^^

That explanation wouldn't have made much sense to a non-chemist, though. (Maybe
I was in the OrgChem department, but apart from synthesising that one unstable compound, I was more working on physical chemistry (phase diagrams of surfactants and internal structure of microemulsions).
Still left me plenty of time to go on the computers, though, yes. Although I'm still not entirely sure that was that good a developement. I still haven't readjusted to doing some actual work in the times that I don't have classes...

Only one of my RL friends is on LJ, and *her* I managed to convince of DT's charm on the strenght of Casanova, which I loaned to her (it was a wrench, yes precious ;-))
For the rest, my RL social circle and my internet social circle don't overlap that much. Makes it tought sometimes if I'm excited about something and have nobody to talk to about it. BF comes closest, but even he has no notions about the joys of fic reading/writing, for instance.
