Good Lord, I seem to have a social life at the moment. That's kind of scary.

Anyway, Tuesday evening meant another CHAS meeting at The Pancake Parlor. (Mmm, pancakes...), which was as entertainingly random as ever, especially when we discovered plans for next semester, and the astounding fact that we actually have money.

And then, afterwards, we went to the movies. To see The Da Vinci Code.

I am sure a few of you are aware of my opinion of Dan Brown's books. So I wasn't expecting much from the movie. To be brief, I will just say that it was a lot better than the book - not that that is actually hard. I always said it read like a movie novelisation, and so the movie fit the story better. No painful prose or blocks of exposition that just piss me off, or the oh-so-Sueified personal descriptions.

So, it was okay. Watchable, but not particularly good. The Pirates of the Caribbean trailer was awesome, though.

Then, last night, [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away had gone and arranged for a late Birthday dinner thing, so yay her! So [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, [livejournal.com profile] punk_rock_nerd, [livejournal.com profile] altheas, [livejournal.com profile] lena_supercat, [livejournal.com profile] de_chel, [livejournal.com profile] knave_scurvy, [livejournal.com profile] bellmeister, [livejournal.com profile] ranorith and me went out and Mexican. Which is quite yummy and fun and all. Especially the part where I had rather too many margaritas.

And then we toddled up to The Croft Institute again (hurrah for weeknights and no entry charge!), which now official qualifies as AwesomeTM. Which was also yay fun. And Pink Grapefruit and Gin = yummers.

You know what? This social life thing, it is actually rather appealing. I can see why people go for it.

Also, My fandom is completely bonkers.

And The Cornfield and The HMS STFU have imploded somewhat, due to [livejournal.com profile] vanceone being a misogynistic wanker. So naturally, when I am not being outraged, I discuss Doctor Who with a cool mouse.

Oh, and Rob Shearman remains awesome.

Guess what [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away has gotten me for my birthday?

...

A Fourth Doctor scarf!

*glee*

There is no end to her supreme awesomeness!
Hurrah, 'tis my birthday properly! I am now 20 years old.

And I am choosing to celebrate by... downloading The Idiot's Lantern. *facepalm*

At least I managed to sleep in a bit, and so get a really, really fast one. (24% done, hurrah!)

But yeah, Happy Birthday to me.

This goes out to the people I know in RL, but I am rather disappointed with you lot. Why? Because of your complete and utter lack of response, online or in the real world, I, yet again, had no real celebration for my birthday.

It was so nice of you to pay no attention to it at all, really.

The exception to this, of course, is [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away, who was nice and lovely, and so we went out and had dinner at Pancake Parlour (mmm, pancakes), and then wandered up to Eurotrash to have Absinth. And Pocky.

They were both very good.

And we also went on a Croft Institute adventure, actually managing to find the damn place, which was fun. It also has the best decor of a bar ever. Oh, and the bartender was a guy who I went to school with, and when he found out it was for my birthday, gave us drinks for half price.

(Also, he initially didn't recognise me, because of the blonde hair, which was just weird. Seriously, it doesn't look that different, does it?)

Then we wandered up to Cab Noc again, which was rather busy. I love the outfits there, they are so cool. And the music isn't bad either. And the entire night was worth it just to see the Goths all flee when the DJ put Franz Ferdinand on.

*pouts* I'm going to go and eat my birthday Pocky now. It's yummy.

In other flist-ish type stuff, a whole bunch of randoms I have never spoken to, or even heard of before have friended me. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?
You want to know how to get a whole lot of attention? Catch a busy tram, with an entire school group on it, whilst wearing a pink striped dressing gown. And carrying a towel.

'Twas rather amusing, actually. I had to work quite hard to keep a straight face.

In any case, I dealt with the whole Towel Day/Glorious 25th of May thing by having...a lilac coloured towel. Ah, fandom collisions.

Also, last day of actual class for this semester. Now there is just studying for exams, and folio stuff for Creative Writing.

Bistromathics was on tonight. My team was called "I Can't Believe It's Not Chifley! (The Soy-Based Chifley Substitute)" and consisted of me, [livejournal.com profile] daemon42, [livejournal.com profile] how_common and [livejournal.com profile] jess_with_a_hat. We ended up coming third. And we were winning at the halfway point, too. *sulks*

Anyway, 'twas fun, what with lots of Jason Elderhurst bashing (and the plotting of his more than timely demise), and Vogon Poetry, and trivia questions. Naturally, they went and dug out tricky Doctor Who ones because I was there.

Being the token Doctor Who fangirl in the club = not always fun.

Also, we had radoactive cheese rings.

Oh, and my Dad has gotten me a heater for my birthday. Hurrah! I must pick it up this weekend.

Speaking of: Since yesterdays post got very little response, if anyone would like to join me for dinner, and then some cocktails tomorrow night, plz let me know ASAP.
So, D&D was on tonight, and was as cracktastic as ever.

Mainly because by the end of it, we got to the point where everyone had been broken numerous times, and you couldn't say anything, really, without everyone bursting into fits of laughter (or cringing).

We successfully managed to break the DM many, many times though, which was of the good.

Curse our smutty minds!

But yeah, this session had:

- Steven Quartermain selling silk.

- Far too much singing of "We're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard." Again. Including the silk version.

- Possibly a brothel named Isengard.

- Silk. Again.

- A ship's captain covered in bling.

- A Paladin committing suicide by beating himself over the head with the public phone.

- Me going by the pseudonym "Miss O'Crappe"

- Me in a nurse's outfit. Again.

- And it ended on a cliffhanger with the entire party drugged.

Some quotes from it:

[livejournal.com profile] mercdaemon: "You wake up to the Paladin crowing."

[livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and myself (in perfect unison): "Say it, say it, say it!"

[livejournal.com profile] mercdaemon: "Oh crap."
Me: "You called?"

[livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away and I got back from D&D, and there was stuff all over the living room. O_O

I've finally gone and given my birthday list to Mum. And [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away keeps taunting me with hints abot what she's getting me, which is most unfair.

Also: About the birthday thing

I'm too lazy to bother arranging somehing proper, but I can do something quick on the fly. So, I'm leaning towards having dinner somewhere as a group, and then going out for a few cocktails. We'd probably meet around 6 or 6.30 in the Basement Friday, head off for the meal, and then people who know clubs and bars better than me can direct me to some good ones.

So, if any Basement/Second Floor/Melbourne types are interested, please comment to tell me you'll be able to come along. And give me your recommendation for a dinner spot. I'd prefer responses by Friday afternoon, so I can book a table if necessary.
So, seeing as my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, I probably should get on to organising things - particualrly because I actually want to do something fun this year, unlike the last few.

The main idea I'm having is [livejournal.com profile] fa11ing_away's suggestion of a cocktail party, which would be very fun. But there are a few details to that people need to consider if they wanted to come.

(For reference, the party would be on the evening of either Friday 26th or Saturday 27th of May)

Oh, and the poll is open to anyone. But higher importance will be given to the opinions of those who might actually attend.

[Poll #722289]

Making polls is fun. I should do it more often.

ETA: Because it is just as important, I'd like it of people could comment specifying which date they would prefer: Friday 26th, Saturday 27th or something else entirely.
It is a month until my 20th birthday. Dear me, how time has flown.

But since I plan on doing something this year, after the non-events of the last few years, I feel planning should begin shortly. Any suggestions?

Yesterday we had our "Social Tute" for Linguistics. Translation: instead of doing work we had coffee and chatted. Which was interesting, and rather random. The big question of the day: What would the ingredients be if you invented Welsh Coffee?

Oh, and my first subscription copy of DWM arrived today. I was happy (Yay, no having to lurk around Minotaur waiting for them to get it in!) And it ain't half bad either. (Ooh, the previews for the upcoming episodes look good, and intriguingly cryptic in a few places. Comic isn't nearly as slashy, though) Yay for Sarah Jane!

Also, GIP for new icon courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] __kali__

ETA: Hearing the band Ash do a punky version of the Star Wars Cantini Band song is glorious crack.
