Curse you, social life, for preventing me from posting!

Good Lord, I seem to have a social life at the moment. That's kind of scary.

Anyway, Tuesday evening meant another CHAS meeting at The Pancake Parlor. (Mmm, pancakes...), which was as entertainingly random as ever, especially when we discovered plans for next semester, and the astounding fact that we actually have money.

And then, afterwards, we went to the movies. To see The Da Vinci Code.

I am sure a few of you are aware of my opinion of Dan Brown's books. So I wasn't expecting much from the movie. To be brief, I will just say that it was a lot better than the book - not that that is actually hard. I always said it read like a movie novelisation, and so the movie fit the story better. No painful prose or blocks of exposition that just piss me off, or the oh-so-Sueified personal descriptions.

So, it was okay. Watchable, but not particularly good. The Pirates of the Caribbean trailer was awesome, though.

Then, last night, fa11ing_away had gone and arranged for a late Birthday dinner thing, so yay her! So fa11ing_away, punk_rock_nerd, altheas, lena_supercat, de_chel, knave_scurvy, bellmeister, ranorith and me went out and Mexican. Which is quite yummy and fun and all. Especially the part where I had rather too many margaritas.

And then we toddled up to The Croft Institute again (hurrah for weeknights and no entry charge!), which now official qualifies as Awesome^TM. Which was also yay fun. And Pink Grapefruit and Gin = yummers.

You know what? This social life thing, it is actually rather appealing. I can see why people go for it.

Also, My fandom is completely bonkers.

And The Cornfield and The HMS STFU have imploded somewhat, due to vanceone being a misogynistic wanker. So naturally, when I am not being outraged, I discuss Doctor Who with a cool mouse.

Oh, and Rob Shearman remains awesome.

Ah yes, the pimping of the Tennant. :-) I should do that more. The problem is, when I try that IRL, I get the reaction 'Who?', and a response of 'The Doctor' wouldn't make any sense, since the whole series *hasn't* been broadcast yet on a Dutch channel, and even if it had, I doubt it would get as popular as it is on the other side of the Channel (or even world ;-)). So all I have to point towards is HP, and to be honest, I didn't actually like DT's performance in that all that much. Too OTT again.

I believe Casanova has been snuck in on DVD over here too. I've yet to find it, though. (Not that I need to. I own the British release.)

Doesn't seem to work that way, oddly enough.

I personally could have BBC1 and BBC2 programmed in the place of NL1 and NL2, given the frequency that I watch them, but most people seem to prefer their drama and humour either in Dutch or at least subtitled. Yes, I did try. :-)

Actually, they (well, the first series) *have* been broadcast with Dutch subtitles. On one of the Belgian channels. But that was at four in the afternoon or some such, really weird timeslot. I'd warned a friend about them as she seemed interested, but she didn't manage to catch any of them.

Have they now? I rarely watch telly these days, and mainly just the Doctor.

People are weird, yes. Though I wish I had Ceefax on mine, because subtitles can be good.

I do find that icon highly suitable at times.

I talk about him a lot on my LJ (as you may have noticed...) and since most of my RL friends are on LJ too, I've managed to get a few that way. Plus the whole being in a bunch of Sci-Fi clubs, where my obsession is well known. And Casanova and Blackpool were on telly at the end of last year, which helps.

Only one of my RL friends is on LJ, and *her* I managed to convince of DT's charm on the strenght of Casanova, which I loaned to her (it was a wrench, yes precious ;-))

For the rest, my RL social circle and my internet social circle don't overlap that much. Makes it tought sometimes if I'm excited about something and have nobody to talk to about it. BF comes closest, but even he has no notions about the joys of fic reading/writing, for instance.

Casanova got one of my friends, Harry Potter a few more, and then there are a few people I met this year and already liked him. Hurrah them!

And as for my social circles...well, just take a look at who I had for my birthday dinner. And we tend to talk about a lot of this stuff in RL. Though the combination of the two has meant I have had some impact on certain things they are involved in.
