And now we are up to Chapter 9 of the MsScribe epic.

And it has to be one of the most horrific accounts of fandom I have ever come across. Some pooor woman with cancer getting stomped on by a whole bunch of BNFs just because she asked one of them to link her fundraising website. After they had been going on about how fandom supports it's own and all that, too.

I don't think I have ever been so appalled by fandom as a whole. The things that were said...

That's it. I'm going to stay in my happy lurking little state of treating everyone with respect and kindness and happily and harmlessly squeeing. This is just insane, utterly and completely. *brain is still boggled*

I mean why? I just don't get it.

Yep. See I only really got into the HP fandom at all in 2004 when I got an LJ (before that I wrote fic about a lot of British cop shows and lurked around the boards of those, also avoiding craziness). And of course I missed all this and even now I wouldn't have known anything about the craziness around the release of book six if I hadn't had people on my friends list who seek out wank.

I think looking at this, it seems like some people forget that other people online are real people, with real feelings and that things you write online do hurt.

Bleuh - I'm going back to fangirling over David Tennant and writing fics for my own amusement.

I think that's what a lot of this really comes down to - someone made an interesting comment along the lines of MsScribe spending so much time playing with people that she might have believed everyone did that, hence her reactions in the Charitywank thing.

And I think fangirling Teh Tennant is a very good way to go right now.

Yep - I think that could be true. It just...it makes me depressed. Because fandom is supposed to be a fun thing where you meet interesting people and squee over the particular book/tv show/movie/pairing that you like and then have respectful and interesting debates and discussions about it. *sighs* Again, the fact that I tend to expect human beings to be good and decent and reasonable has come back to bite me.

I think to cheer myself up I shall watch the preview for the Christmas Invasion, stare at my David Tennant icons and possibly look for someone goodfic.
