drakyndra: The Music Meister demands you sing! (Fuck Your Shit Up)

It's quarter to four in the morning. And the goddamn smoke alarm above the staircase in our building is going off. And as far as I can tell, I'm the only person awake

And the fucking roof is too high for me to turn it off.

I hate smoke alarms.

It could've... gotten loose by itself? Dunno, will it stop anytime soon if you don't?

Depends how the batteries are going.

At the moment I am listening to music on my headphones.

Ah, okay. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone else will switch it off... there isn't anything on fire out there, right? Just in case...

Not that I can tell. And the alarm in our apartment tends to get set off when you burn the toast, so they might be just a little oversensitive.

Argh, these over-sensitive firealarms are really annoying!

When I was in England as a visiting student, the ones in my college used to go off all the time when people had burnt their food and lighted a candle on a birthday cake or stuff.

Have you got earplugs? Earplugs plus a pillow over your head sort of help to ignore the terrible noise.

I'm used to the one in our apartment going off for odd reasons. The one in the hallway, not so much. And no, I don't have any earplugs.

Err, then listening to music on your earphone while waiting for a neighbour to have mercy on you all and switch the damn thing off is probably the best strategy... :(

You reckon that's bad... My Dad has a remote monitored smoke alarm. And it's ridiculously sensitive. It was set off by something when he was in the shower a few weeks ago--he told me he came out of the shower to discover the fire department in his driveway with sirens flashing thinking his house was on fire.

On top of that, he gets charged $300 a pop for false alarms. :(

I take it you have no ladder and it can't be got at by standing on a chair? Can you maybe fashion a long poking device to deactivate it without knocking it down?

The boarding house of my school had alarms like that - we had the someone in the shower setting them off thing, as well.

And I have neither a ladder, and a chair wouldn't be nearly high enough, also, it's above the damned staircase. And I don't know which button to poke to turn it off.

Okay - that's really freaky because although we're in completely different time zones and you're half a day ahead of me, this morning at just before 4 a.m., my smoke alarm went off for no reason whatsoever, woke me up and scared me half to death.

*cue eerie music*

Not only are over-sensitive fire-alarms annoying, but highly dangerous. You tune them out as they ussually just mean "toast is being cooked". I slept through one going off right outside my room once.
Not only that, but test's should that in some real house fires, the kind where there is initially less smoke and more flame, they sometimes simply don't work at all.

There is another kind that works much better, and doesn't go off when your neighbour goes outside for a cigarette. I don't know what they are called, but I know that A) They don't have a radiation hazard symbol on the back and B) They cost more, and are therefore less common.

That is very annoying. Mine you can shut up by waving a cushion/towel underneath the bottom of it to get rid of whatever it was that set it off. Maybe that would work?
