There are two new sections up on the latest bad_penny thing - History of the HP BNF Inner Circle, to be precise.

Also, I was going to be working on my next links list (Because then my more recent recs will be easier for me to find for [livejournal.com profile] crack_van thing. Lucky I have about about the first weeks worked out, which gives me some more time). But I had that odd thing where I slept in quite late, but still got tired rather early, so I gave up shortly, and plan to read my book and then go to bed. Or lurk around b_p

I have also managed to gain a blood blister on my foot, and I have utterly no idea how. Which is odd.

In fannish stuff: If even hearing Freema Agyeman's name makes you nauseated, then you may want to leave fandom, for your own health if nothing else. Because she's going to be around for a while, yet.

Also, the US premiere of S2 is tonight. I look to the next few months of fandom with a mixture of fascination and sheer horror.

ETA: WHAT THE SHIT?

ETA2: Another Bad_Penny section up. This one contains references to boob flashing.

. . . every time I think DW fandom is hopelessly batshit, I look over at the Harry Potter fandom and suddenly I don't feel so bad . . .

Seriously, this [livejournal.com profile] bad_penny stuff should be an annotated reference guide or something.

I look over at the Harry Potter fandom and suddenly I don't feel so bad . . .

This somehow begs to be filked to "My Favorite Things:"
...and when I remember other batshit fans
I suddenly don't feel so bad!

Any time you really want to lose your faith in humanity, buy me a drink and ask me about Beauty and the Beast fandom. Seriously. We have yet to hit those kinds of levels of weapons-grade guano.

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

They're Beauty and the Beast fandom?

And they wank?

Over what in the sweet jesus do they find to wank?!

From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com

I'm talking about the Koslow TV show from the late 80s, not Disney. And the main actress left the show before the final season, which was rewritten to bring in someone else and focus on action instead of romance, so you can kind of fill in the blanks...

But seriously, it was FUGLY of a kind that I just haven't seen these days, mostly because it looks like people can spin off their own comms and snipe at each other. People being blacklisted from clubs ugly. People trying to make other fans bankrupt ugly. People refusing places to print stories ugly. Slander, attempts to get people fired, shutting down charities ugly.

Someone bitching me out in a panel at a con fifteen years later over a letter published in Starlog ugly.

And all over a guy wearing makeup and his fake girlfriend.

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

fifteen years?

You officially win the intarwebz. I cannot imagine that level of crazy doing anything other than turning my head into actual physical mush.

From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com

Yup, 15 years. It was the first Gulf War when I wrote in saying that that the body count overseas was more cosmically important than a TV romance, and she showed up at my panel on fan wars at Media*West front and center to bitch about "How could I WRITE such a horrible thing to a fan magazine? How could I INSULT fandom like that? That letter Made Her CRY!" (complete with capitalizations, of course, and a tamely nodding husband verifying that her heart had been broken.)

And yet I so oddly persist in thinking that much as I love it, TV is only TV, and if Starlog felt it was an inappropriate letter, then they wouldn't have published it. Silly me.

Fifteen freakin' years, and she was still trying to guilt-trip me about a letter to the editor. (She finally stormed off the panel when 1) I refused to repudiate what I'd said and 2) nobody else rose up in indignation to throw me out.)

Almost 17 years now and I can still quote chunks of said letter, so I may not be much better. But then, suffice it to say that I was not permitted to live down or forget such infamy for quite some time at the time, so things do get burned into the memory.

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

Some people.. just.. sweet jesus. I thought I'd seen nuts, but this takes things to another level.

I'd go with your view that hey, you have a point there, and the Peoples That Be wouldnt have published stuff they thought inappropriate. Some fen just really need a reality check. Possibly with a baseball bat round the head, y'know.

I mean, when you're crying over a letter about a fandom then hey, must be nice to have nothing better to worry about in your life, but please, step in to reality sometime, plzkthx. People so batshit.

I swear, someone could print the bad_penny stuff (The MsScribe story, the plagiarism debacle, and this lot), and sell it. It'd make a fascinating read.

*imagines what HP fans in a decades time will think of it all*

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

Heidi would call plagiarism and trying to make money off Cassie Claire's OMGPublishedAuthor status. And then the world would laugh.

I love that my only real ship in HP is Remus/Tonks, and even then I'll happily read them with others. Fen utterly make my day sometimes.

Except the RoseFen, I'm getting sick of bashing on Sophia/Freema cause they arent Billie/Rose. Do they not understand Doctor Who isnt a RomCom with aliens? It is not the h2g2 film, Richard Curtis is not writing it, and everyone prefers the Doctor to be the crazy loony alien, not in the least cause then Tennant will do that hot angry thing where he gets all scary but so so guh. (Holy run on sentance, Batman!)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

The world would laugh, and laugh hard. *is waiting for CC's book to get sporked and wanked over*

I'm generally a canon-shipper in HP, but I'll read anything that I've had recommended to me.

It's a stupid reason to criticise, anyway - and it's giving me deja vu of this time last year (with the Tennant bashing). If they had waited until she had been seen on screen, then I may have taken them more seriously, because then, at least, they can honestly say they like her less for a reason. But just because she isn't Rose or Billie? It makes them look stupid, and means that when Martha comes around, I am unlikely to take their criticisms seriously, because I can't trust it isn't Rose bias.

Yays hot angry Ten!

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

Y'know, the batshit Rose adoration is making me like Martha more. I'm not sure how I can justify it, as she has even less screen-time than Tennant had at the this point last year, but dear god I do love the Tennant, so I'm gonna stick with my gut.

Think if we're very good girls RTD will give us more angry!Ten this year? It's so his thing. I dont want emo!Doctor again, that was Nine's thing, I want Ten all that calm-angry when he's upset. It's way hotter than an emo Time Lord.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Y'know, the batshit Rose adoration is making me like Martha more.

The exact same thing happened for me with Ten (Not Tennant, because I saw several of his other shows after PotW and developed a fannish love that way): The more people went on about the amazing wonderfulness of Nine, and how Ten could never possibly be as good and was an evil bastard for stealing Rose away, the more I liked him.

So yes, trust that gut of yours. Worked for me.

I want Ten all that calm-angry when he's upset. It's way hotter than an emo Time Lord.

God, I hope so. *fans self*

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

I love my gut. And the weirdness of that sentance.

But yeah, the Ten-love thing pretty much exactly mirrors what I felt. That and it helped that I'd been a Tennant fan for a while. Ever since I was walking to the cinema and saw a giant billboard with him on, advertising Casonova (on Three for it's first run, I do believe), and had the urge to look up what he'd done. Imagine my joy when a little while later this fairly unknown actor who I thought was hot is all over the papers for taking the role of the Doctor. That was just cool, man.

Think if we hope long and hard enough they'll have him licking things as well as being all calm-angry-sexy? That'd be just oooh. *nicks the fan*

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I hadn't heard of him before PotW (and I didn't know there was a regeneration coming, either, though I knew of the concept - I saw the entire second half of the series in a single night marathon session), but after that, I liked the look of him, so I looked into his other stuff. And the ABC, bless them, ran Blackpool and Casanova not much longer after that, so I saw them and GoF, and became a fan.

*hopes as hard as is physically possible*

From: [identity profile] kittenblah.livejournal.com

He's just too hot/cute/talented not to become a fan.
I mean, he's fit to look at (arse = woah), but it really helps that he's actually a rather stunningly good actor. The way into my pants is talent, yessiree. Ahem.

Lets hope they go for having him and Jack around lots. Naked. I wasnt keen on Jack at first, but Barrowman just made me like him. Once he dropped the cheesy act and was just snarky and fun it was utter win.

Maybe Tennant could be licking Barrowman? (rather not-likely wish, but oh, just think of the possibilities!)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Talent does add to attractiveness, oh my yes.

Tennant licking Barrowman = best idea ever.
