Wanted: One New Name

It has come to my attention (via altheas's rather disturbing co-worker, and some truly appalling Sue-fics) that as of late, the name "Melissa" has been used in a lot of disturbing and unnatural ways. As a barer of this name, I am shocked and appalled.

So, in order to escape these horrific connotations, I have decided that I shall now renounce the name Melissa, and take on an entirely new name.

Sadly, I have no suitable back-up.

So, I put this out to you, my noble flist: Find me a new name.

I am open to all suggestions, though I would quite like it if you can supply a good reason why said suggestions are suitable for me to take as my new name.

The winner will be rewarded with...something. I am sure it will be glorious and magnificent.

So, go, my flist, and find me a name!

I always liked that name.

It's from Japanese mythology, I think. Means something about "Star in the sky" or "Shining in the heavens" or something...

It's japanese, so it's pronounced phonetically, right?
A-me-te-ra-su.
You CAN drop the "u" on "su" with verbs i know, but i don't think so with nouns.

Though the "r" is more of an "rl" if you want to do it all proper like. That's the hardest bit.

Amaterasu: Japanese sun goddess from whom all the emperors are supposedly descended, and hence the divinity of the royal family. They gave that up a while back (I think when Japan lost WWII). [/history geek]

Well, it could be worse. You could be called Serena or some variation *snerk* On the same hand, you could be called Serenity. And while it does have about fifty thousand Mary Sues to its name (aha! pun!), it also has that Firefly connotation that everybody* wants.

*I say everybody, but I haven't actually seen any yet. I've just been told by numerous people that I would like it, so...you know.
