Oh, blarg on you, stupid assignment. Yes, you aren't actually due until Wednesday, but I am already sick of working on you. You are no fun at all.

And then there is also the fact for whatever unknown reason, despite the fact that I am trying to get a good night's sleep, I ended up tossing and turning and lying awake until 5am last night (...morning?). Which also added to the non-fun of today.

On the plus side, I made quesadillas! And the actually worked for once, instead of falling apart when I tried to flip them and leaving a big cheesy goopy mess in the fry pan.

...So, not all bad, I suppose.

Here, have an adorable kitten eating watermelon. (It's the kitten doing the eating, not the watermelon.)

Oh bleh.

My Exam/Presentation/Whatever thing was today. And I am grumpy at myself because it went less well than I had hoped. I kept forgetting what I was supposed to say next and having to look at my notes. In retrospect I seemed to cover all the major points I meant to, but as presentations go, it was rather less than spectacularly executed.

And for some bizarre reason, my body decided the best time to be all nervous and unable to eat was after the damned exam, which rather ruined my lunch.

*sigh*

At least that's done with, leaving my just one more assignment to get done for the rest of the semester, and that got it's due date pushed back a couple of days.

Though, I feel the need for some cheering entertainment - anyone up for taking advantage of Cheapass Tuesday movie tickets tomorrow? I could use a movie, and I hear that the new X-Men movies is actually quite decent. I also hear that Charles and Magneto have a whole lot of homoerotic subtext going on, but that's an entirely seperate point. Except for when it isn't.

Aside from that, I've mostly been watching Doctor Who fandom go mildly kerblooey - either because they had their minds blow, or were underwhelm/predicted things, which is interesting.

I had the personal experience of seeing one of my housemates walk in just in time to hear only the very last line of the episode. Poor bastard.
So, for that wonderful thing we call University, I have an exam on Monday.

Though really, it's not so much an exam as it is a 10 presentation we get assessed on that just happens to worth a whole lot of marks.

Anyway, I have spent the past couple of days writing out what I'm going to say, and getting my PowerPoint presentation all done, and I seem to have finished, huzzah!

...Now I just need to practice, and make sure it, you know, actually goes for the 10 minutes it is supposed to. Sigh.

And then after that I have one more assignment to do, plus trying to figure out a way to both do the assignment and get back to Hamilton way for a day or to to check out if there is anything left on the farm that I want to take (rather than get sold in a clearance sale or so on.)

Here, have an amusingly geeky music video for a delightfully perky song. Cheery music is good for the soul.
So, I got home from dinner with my father to find that at some point while I was out, there ,must have been a power surge or something at the iPartment.

And it managed to kill the power supply on my computer. We think.

Which really, really bites.

If it's the power supply, I may have things fixed by tomorrow evening. If it's not, or if I've lost data too - well, things won't be at all fun.

I'm currently on a kinda dodgy antique-ish laptop of the HouseMatt; tomorrow I may spend some time at the Uni labs, seeing what I can get done. Or I might just try and sleep in.

Either way, I'm really not happy right about now.

So, today at Uni the bookshop was having a sale over at Union House.

And so, as well as a couple of cheap books, I ended up getting a 5 dollar webcam, because I didn't actually have one at the moment.

Because at a price like that, I am sure that's some quality merchandise, amirite?

Anyone care to come on MSN and help me test it out. But only if you have a webcam too, fair's fair..

I also had this wonderful quote from my lecturer: "The time-table is now up. There are no times on it."

Oh Uni, you can be kind of ridic. Even when I am not at FOUL meetings, which was rather tame today.

Here, have a picspam someone else made
You know, as Armageddon goes, I'd have the give that one an "F". There wasn't even a nice dramatic thunderstorm.

That aside, I've had a rather busy few days and it's only Saturday so far.

Thursday evening I went with [livejournal.com profile] lena_supercat to check out her public speaking club... thing. Which was actually kinda interesting, though I am undecided about actually joining because LOL, the cost.

Friday involved a seminar thing for Uni, then drinks after with other student teachers at the school I was at to celebrate the end of block placementing, and then off to Fitzroy for the book launch of "Matthew Lang"'s book The Secret of Talmor Manor. Which, aside from getting books, a reading, and some signings, involved some music from a mini-orchestra, an art auction, and a drag queen as MC. As one does at a book launch.

But I do now have another book to add to my (now rather depleted) To Read pile. Which is all signed and lovely and everything. (Kisses to you, "Matthew".)

(There was also a jaunt in the middle to get something to eat in the city, which involved watching a whole bunch of Free Palestine protesters to take their protest into the middle of Melbourne Central. I also visited the place that sold Durian Strudel, but wasn't game enough to try it. I have blueberry instead.)

And then today Mum sent me into the city to pick up her suitcase from Myers, since they were having a sale on luggage today. Which hey, allowed me to scope out books I can consider getting and also have dinner at a Japanese restaurant at the time the world was supposed to be ending. Unless practicing my skills at eating rice with chopsticks is a sign of the apocalypse, it all rather passed me by.

And that was that. Onto fannish stuff!

There is now a full trailer for the upcoming FMA movie. And also official art. Be nice if someone would translate the dialogue in that trailer, actually...

Oh, and speaking of pre-release publicity, we have the first picture for the next Nolan Batman film. Featuring a rather buff Tom Hardy.

Actually, to get back to the books thing, before the 10% off thing at Book Depository is over, I think I might pick some stuff up. Anyone got any suggestions of some books I really need to read?
Stuff I did today:

- Went to class
- Headed down to the Spencer Street shopping centre, and put some nifty (but kind of expensive) boots on lay-buy. I think the current plan is that when Dad asks me what I want for birthday, I get him to pay off the rest.
- And then went and saw Thor, since I don't want to get too behind in my viewing of current movies.

It was actually kinda fun, though I am mildly disappointed we never got a scene of Spoiler for something that didn't happen ) Also, Loki was so damned interesting.

Yes, I know I am a bit late on this. But I don't seem to get to the movies as often as I like these days.

Also, hey, check out some nifty pendulum patterns!

And I am getting me some new icons. Yay for shiny things.

Ah, the wonders you see at Supanova. Seriously, I love that photo there. It's just too good.

And while I'm linking things, FMA is having a one-shot "Prototype" in the magazine in June. Which I must confess to being deeply curious about.

Anyway, today was the last lectures before Easter break, though I still have a few classes on Wednesday. Bleh.

Plus I also had out regular FOUL meeting which resulted in some rather interesting conversations about Supanova, Draco Malfoy's wimpiness, the Harry Potter movies, David Tennant's epicly fanboy family tree and under what circumstances we would kick Hitler in the balls. This all made perfect sense at the time.

Also, one guy declared that the clothes I was wearing made me look like a female version of Chrestomanci, which is quite possibly the most flattering thing anyone has ever said about my taste in clothing.
So, busy weekend. Well, busy yesterday, and today had lots of sleeping in, getting grumpy at LJ and doing some of my assignment.

But yeah, Supanova was on and I headed in as planned on Saturday, complete with dressing-upness. Which isn't exactly cosplay, but hey it's an excuse to dress up nifty and a few people wanted pictures so I suppose it counts.

Anyway, the queue to get into the building was completely insane. I was kinda amazed at how long it was. On the other hand, I arrived early enough that it wasn't all that busy inside, and even more fortunately the queue for the anime signings was almost non-existent, which was great for me. So, I went and got a free Evangelion: Rebuild poster and got it signed by Tiffany Grant and Yuko Miyamura aka English!Asuka and Japanese!Asuka. I also got a picture with Tiffany Grant - I wanted one with both, but apparently Yuko Miyamura isn't allowed to get photos taken.

I can't be arsed trying to upload my pic to LJ with things like they are, but it's on my computer and I could link it if anyone is desperate to see.

I also went to the panel with the two of them, which was surprisingly not full given it's, you know, Evangelion. Though, given how long the autograph line was in the afternoon, maybe everyone just showed up late.(I confess to laughing at how long the wait was after I was lined up for only like 15 minutes) But there were some interesting questions and then some... kinda dumb ones. Hopefully mine was a good one.

I didn't really go in for any other autographs (well, except some other anime guys who showed up) because some of the lines were insane. I heard someone was in line for Tom Felton almost all day.

I did stick around for the cosplay competition though. Not long enough to find out who won, but long enough to see all the costumes and performers, some of which were a lot of fun. The Draco Malfoy act was clearly inspired by A Very Potter Musical, but was still kinda hilarious.

And yeah, the regular convention wandering around, looking at people's costumes, looking at stalls and buying things. And eating overpriced convention food. Plus some guy from the 501st gave me some "Join the Dark Side" cookies.

The only person I knew who I actually ended up running into was [livejournal.com profile] connikins who was unsurprisingly Inception-ed up, though I know a few others were around.

I ended up getting the first Rebuild movie on DVD, a box set of Eden of the East since it sounded interesting, an R2-D2 Pez dispenser and a badge. As one does.

And then I headed into down for dinner with my father and my sister, while still in my convention outfit. Well, I hadn't had time to get home and get changed (and I'd spent half the day worrying about getting there on time since my phone battery almost ended up dying on me), which I am sure looked wonderful after all that rain.
So today was the last day of school (for school schools, not Uni), which meant that placement today was kinda... interesting. By which I mean the SRC decided to have a Harry Potter themed day, and there were a bunch of kids running around in Potterverse costumes.

I think the best was the kid as the Golden Snitch. He had a shaved head and had painted himself gold. All over (as far as I could tell- he was wearing shorts).

Personally I just stuck with wearing my wizard hat. ;)

But I have a busy weekend ahead of me, it seems. Supanova is on and I decided I was going to go on Saturday (ie. Tomorrow) - I know a few others on flist were planning to go, anyone want to meet up at some point. Or I could just check phone details and work out something when we are there.

Plus, after that my Father decided to inform me just yesterday that he was planning on being in Melbourne tomorrow and would I like to go out to dinner? He may just have to deal with me dressed in something ridiculous, because I don't really think I would have time to get home to change.

And then on Sunday I shall have to do homework. What a thrilling end to the weekend.
Well, today I actually managed to work out why my alarm didn't go off on Friday and ended up causing me to miss my bus and be late to school placement - apparently the settings on my clock radio were wrong, and the alarm was set to go off at PM instead of AM. You can see how that might be a problem.

Now, how do you think I might have worked that out...

Yeah. It was like that.

And in continuing time-related fuckery, I had completely forgotten that Daylight Savings ended on the weekend and hadn't managed to put my clocks back (though my mobile apparently did so automatically), which resulted in me being very, very confused come lunchtime.

I should just like not do things involving clocks. At all. Egads.

And because someone brought it up when we were talking about webcomics at FOUL during my deeply confusing lunchtime, I give you Hipster Hitler. I am aware I just Godwin'd myself, but I am now filled with vast amounts of LOL WAT.
I am currently being grumpy at Supanova. Conventions going to be on next weekend, and they still have posted a schedule online. How am I supposed to know which day I want to go to if I don't know what stuff is on? /whines

I was actually getting all prepared and everything. I did my assignment that isn't due for another week this weekend, just so I have less assignmentage to do next weekend.

*pouts at the universe refusing to be helpful for my desires*

Aside from my productiveness in writing up assignments, I also bring you a collection of random silly things I found online I found between writing paragraphs. Because that's just what I do, apparently. But thank you, internets, for informing all the people who have stranger lives than I

So, there's the blog of this guy who goes around asking authors to insult him when they sign books.

There's a guy who glued a tiny sequined hat to his head.

And there's Stephen Colbert singing "Friday". Yes, that Friday.

And have a meme I think I yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] rhipowered without actually commenting on. (Sorry, Rhi! *hides*)

iTunes meme. Or LOL, look at all the silly music Drakyndra has )

Oh stupid, stupid Melbourne weather. And stupid 9am classes. I had great fun trying to find something to wear that would actually manage to keep me warm when it was bloody freezing this morning, and yet didn't cause me to overheat when it actually got properly hot this afternoon. At least I was inside for most of the day. *sigh*

And I had to a presentation for English Learning Area. I had been getting all grumpy at the partner I was supposed to do it with, because I had kept on sending emails trying to arrange a time so we could meet up and sort out who presented what, but I got no response. And then I saw her in the actual class, and apparently her Uni email was borked and wasn't working. So yeah.

Presentation was kind of crummy and disorganised, but it happens. At least it gives me something to talk about in the reflection on it.

On the other hand, I did end up in a class watching clips from Singing in the Rain and The Princess Bride, so there was that. And FOUL had it's lift party that didn't actually happen.

And I am, once more, in need of more sleep. Huzzah for my lack of classes tomorrow.

Also, several fandom people appear to have friended me recently. Congratulations! You get to put up with this sort of whiny junk post. I do try to be more entertaining usually, but I am lacking in new amusing links right now.
So, I spent most of the weekend working on an assignment that is due in tomorrow. And now it's done, hooray! (Okay, so I still need to finish off the appendix. That won't take long).

Which has meant I spent a long and rather boring past few days. Excluding the bit last night where I went out to dinner with a bunch of people for [livejournal.com profile] neo_leviathan's birthday. So very much food at the dumpling place.

So instead I come today bringing YouTube videos. Which I didn't, in fact, use to procrastinate with.

- So you know that Friday song that's become rather memetic with it's, um, hilarious lack of being good? I was highly amused by this cover of it.

- Cats with Thumbs! Be afraid, be very afraid.

- A... rather interesting multifandom AMV about anime and yaoi. I don't even know like half the characters there, and I was still amused.
Oh blarg Uni. Aside from the fact that we didn't get the day off despite it being a public holiday today (which meant I still had my 9am lecture to get to), I also ended up sticking around Uni until late.

See, one of classes has four readings every way, most of which are quite long. So instead of making everyone read a couple of hundred pages every week, we have this thing where everyone is divided into groups of four, each person in the group does one of the readings, writes up a summary of it, and then shares it with everyone else in the group.

Well, my reading for this week wasn't online - it was in a book that was on the recommended reading list, but not required (so I didn't buy it). And all the copies at the library were taken out, some overdue. So I ended up, after class, grabbing a two hour lone copy and a borrowed Uni laptop, trying to read 40 pages and summarise it all in one page before my two hours were up.

Fun.

In other news, FOUL had a tea party at lunch today. Which was rather unexpected, given this is FOUL we are talking about.

Oh, and a few people on my flist seem to have some offers up over on [livejournal.com profile] help_japan. I really must work out how high I am willing to go with bidding on that.
So, today I spent my first day of my teaching degree actually at a school. (No specific details will be revealed in public posts - if you want to know more, hit me up on MSN or something.) Not that I did any actual teaching, which would have been scary. Instead me got a tour and did admin and I sat in on a few classes to observe. In an observey way.

I also had to be there at 8:30, which meant catching a bus at 7:45. Ick, early mornings. Though the day finishes up at 3pm, which I suppose evens things out.

But there were people calling me Miss. :/ And like all the senior boys were taller than me, too, which is just not right. Though I did get to discover the wonders of what goes on inside teacher staffrooms.

And then I went into the city after and got my glasses. Which I actually have now. Here, check out the MySpacetastic picture I posted of them on Twitter. Ignore the sideways.

I hadn't realised just how bad my sight was until I put them on. Those blurry things in the distance, no longer blurry any more.

And to get away from my crazy and somewhat hyper from lack of sleep life - George R. R. Martin has apparently announced the release date of the next A Song of Ice and Fire books. I say I'll believe it when I am actually holding the book in my own two hands.

And without comment, I will link you to ...this video. Australian politics, ladies and gentlemen.
The rest of Uni started up classes again today. As a result, my day ended up exponentially more absurd.

...Or that may have just been because of the way this week's scheduling worked out, I had a 9am class, and then nothing from 10am to 2:15pm. Stupid time to kill. I may have gotten infected with the Sudoku disease again.

I obviously didn't drink enough coffee.

But things of today included a lecturer using manga art - well, manga styled art, she wasn't actually certain about what manga was - in an illustration of Vygotsky's theories. As one does.

And hanging around Second Floor rooms at lunch time again, while people played board games. I kind of missed that. And wished I had time to join in Settlers.

Oh, and this fascinating quote from Tristan: "No matter where I go, I always turn into a gigolo."

And the obtaining of free Union hats. Why the Union was handing out free hats I don't know, but it's me. What did you expect would happen?

Even if the hat decides to send you a message. No, seriously, they had these tags with this written on them:

Dear adorable customer. I have been made with love & care by Jorge, especially for you. I have been reformed by a creative eye, & designed to accentuate your individuality, to adapt with your style & be worn with love. May our love affair begin.

I am not entire certain I want a love affair with a hat. And even if I do have one - what does that make my relationships with all my other hats? Is that like bigamy?

And to escape those searing and profound questions, have a music video of some Code Geass cosplayers. Knights of the Round, with guest appearances by Euphie. And a very in character Arthur. It entertained me alright.
So, how about that new Thursday Next book that just came out?

Okay, so I haven't finished yet since I just got it today. And I am too tired to bother with sitting up all night reading. But hey, 20 percent off at Dymocks.

Otherwise today involved class - preparation for next Friday when I start with the actually being in a school bit - and then heading up to Uni for the O-Week stuff, like signing up for all the Second Floor Clubs at the clubs and societies tables. Not that I will be able to make half of the meetings, but they got my 2 dollars out of it.

And then there was FOUL picnic, which meant I got to meet back up with a whole lot of Uni peoples I hadn't seen in a while. Plus n00bs! I am actually now one of the older Second Floorers around. This is kind of scary.

Then I went back to the city to look at glasses frames again - I really would like a second opinion on things before I buy anything though. It's all new and scary. Anyone want to volunteer to come with me some time next week to pick stuff out? I could use some help. I should be free Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

And yeah, there was the buying of books and the impending homework to do this weekend and so on. Huzzah.

...Probably rather more sane than the other night's I ACCIDENTALLY A CULT. If less lulzy.

Also less lulzy, the New Zealand earthquake, and whatever the hell is going on in Libya. The world is really kind of crazy at the moments. :/

Here, have a YouTube video. Or as I like to call this one, FUCKING REAL LIFE ESCHER, HOW DOES IT WORK?
And more Uni has been had.

Wednesday involved more tutorialising, this time in the new teaching building, and by new I mean they haven't actually finished building it yet.

Also, our classroom had whiteboard paint on the walls, which means you are allowed to write on them. This may be fun!

And we got assigned groups for homework stuff, so yeah.

And today I we had Professional Practice seminar stuff, by which I mean preparation for our placements. I actually have a placement now, though I won't be saying any details on it in public - I saw what happened with that lady who with the bitching about her students blog.

Then I went to the College of Optometry to make an appointment to get my eyes checked next week, and then bought some new clothes to wear on my first day of placement. Because we were told to dress like we were going to a job interview, and I am somewhat lacking in suitably professional summery clothes. (I have summery clothes, and professional looking clothes. Just not much that is both.)

And that made my exciting and wonderful day. Here, have some live action Mario Kart.
Egads, I had forgotten just how painful 9am lectures are. And yeah, that's really how I wanted to start off at Uni again after a semester off. :/

At least I don't have any more 9am starts. Though there's a 10am one on Friday.

But yeah, two lectures and a workshop today, since one of my subjects doesn't start this week. I am also yet to hear what my school placement is yet, to my distinct annoyance. Hopefully that will be up soon.

And my strange university factoid of the day: My English Learning Area tutor apparently used to be John Marsden's personal assistant. What an interesting career she's had.

So that marks my return to Uni.

Otherwise, not a real lot has been going on - though I suppose that's a big enough deal in itself. Went to [livejournal.com profile] altheas and [livejournal.com profile] lena_supercat's housewarming party on the weekend, bearing cupcakes and booze, and discovered that their new place is in their own words "very linear".

But hey, it's a chance to catch up with a whole lot of people I don't get to see in person at anything other these events. Plus there was food (like booze and cupcakes) and socialising and we ended up watching all sorts of random stuff on YouTube. As one does.

I also had the rather strange experience shortly before that party when a complete stranger came up to me while I was eating my dinner and asked if they could take a photo of my clothes. Which was a bit different, especially when you have a mouth full of fries.

A a token link that seems to be yet another competitor in the file of things that are fascinating and yet I can so see being the cause of future horror movies: Furniture that eats insects
