I just spent an entire hour counting how many fics had been posted to [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips at certain times, in order to prove that no, there wasn't a slump in the amount of fics posted post-Doomsday.

God, I am sad.

ETA: No, Drakyndra has no graphs. Drakyndra needs no graphs!

ETA2: ...But that doesn't stop her from thanking [livejournal.com profile] seti_drd for her sterling efforts. Their resemblance or lack thereof to a crudely drawn cock is entirely up to the viewer. Or you could just ask [livejournal.com profile] tencrush.

I can't believe you did that. It's the sort of thing I'd do.
(I once started an excel spreadsheet detailing the amount of orgasms Rose has in fic, and how she achieves them. I had to stop because the dichotomy between Nine's magic cock and Ten's magic tongue started to depress the hell out of me. It's still there, and I will finish it one day. I am still undecided on what would be a good random sampling of fic.)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I think I just had a very geeky day - I was arguing with one of my lecturers about the coding used in the modelling program, and then we were collecting data for the statistics in our Psych papers.

Also, I like being right.

And this magic cock vs magic tongue dichotomy intrigues me.

Being right is always good.

Ummm, yeah. I guess Ten just canonically licks things, which explains a lot. Whereas with Nine there seems to be a lot of comfort sex, and magical emo timegasms. Or something. I think I might just take a random pick of 25-30 for each from the Teaspoon and reassess. If I was bored, and had nothing to do, of course. Which obviously never happens. ;)

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Which is possibly why Ten!smut doesn't weird me as much. We've seen Ten be tactile and ...oral, so it sort of fits with him. Whereas I just can't imagine Nine having sex. Actually, even the thought of him kissing feels a bit odd to think about - PotW ending notwithstanding. I find it hard to visualise him as going much beyond the hugs and handholding (though this might just be my own mental blocks)

The emo timegasms probably didn't help, mind. There's nothing like bad smut to put you off a certain pairing.

From: [identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com

Our view of Nine's sexuality is so much more based on fanon, innit? So it's less weird when Ten shags things.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

Well, it's not entirely fanon based - Nine was always more closed off, a bit more... oh, I don't know, maybe it's that thing about his supposed "intensity", but he strikes me as the sort of character who would attach a lot of significance to sex, because that kind of intimacy with someone is a Big Fucking Deal for him.

Whereas Ten seems more... it's the tactile thing. He likes to experiment and explore, and I get the impression that he would try sex, just for the hell of, but it wouldn't be nearly as important. He'd do it just for the hell of doing it, and not really think about it afterwards, you know? Which also explains why he wouldn't have sex with those he loves, because it isn't a matter of intimacy so much?

Or basically, Ten is a slutboi alien tease.

Seconded. Graphs are good. Plot the episode air dates against average fic writings and prove something to us. Anything. Either that, or manipulate the data so the graph looks like a crudely drawn cock. Either way's fine.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Not without a graph... let's see if I can sleep tonight, if not I might put something together in Excel. Do you have the number of fics?

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

I have a note book with number of fic posts for all dates between 1st-7th April, 1st-7th May, 1st-7th June, and from the 8th July after Doomsday aired until the 1st August.

Some posts had more than one fic, too.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Then a graph should be done in no time... *glances at you*

Some posts had more than one fic, too.

This fandom is scaring me...

There are initial findings inna clicky linky thing at the top, if you can be bothered to distill them. But not enough to make a decent graph with, and certainly not one that will resemble a crudely drawn cock.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Pity. But I doubt there would be enough data to verify that cock graph *g*
Are there somewhere the fic-postings per day? In a list? I see it coming that I count them myself

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

The multi-fic posts were generally people linking to fics they had up already on other sites, like The Teaspoon or The Pit.

And I is too lazy to type up all the numbers again. Woe.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Woe, it's not as exponential as I thought it would be... damn you, science!

Maybe I did something wrong, who knows. Shows quite well that we're slowly coming back to the normal, linear growth of fic, though

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

That's only a one episode comparison. You need time periods around other episodes to see how typical this pattern is.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

too much work... and the explosion after the 8th is proof enough for me

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

Improved it some more so we get the angry Girl in the Fireplace Peak, too. Fandom is beautifully predictable ^^

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

You gotta love it. The three big peaks: Post GitF (opposing ship), post The Impossible Planet (mortgage conversation, the helmet kiss, and the didn't Rose's departure get announced at about this time?), and of course the finale.

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

You mean that one on the 12.6.? Technically that doesn't count, it was the deadline for a ficathon

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

We're lacking a betaing-shift on the other hand, I had expected the peaks to appear a lot later than the airing dates...
xwingace: (Default)

From: [personal profile] xwingace

I think that would depend on the speed of the betaing....

;-p

XWA

I've always said you're mind-boggingly fast *hugs* :)
tencrush: (fangirls)

From: [personal profile] tencrush

Ahhh, but you did a sum of fics. You should have done a tally of new fics. Not added up. Or something that looks like a crudely drawn cock.

Am I repeating myself here? I don't remember.

From: [identity profile] nostalgia-lj.livejournal.com

We're taking our cue from Rose with her whole family including HER PREVIOUSLY-DEAD DAD and her nice house and her nice job, etc.

MORE! WE WANT MORE!

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

*LOL*

It bet denial!fic increases exponentially after Doomsday. I wonder when the Hiatus Carter Catastrophe will come

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

It's the theoretic point where an exponential graph, like the one for the world population breaks down completely... thought it fitting for AU fics... maybe I'm just spending too much time on this

From: [identity profile] dune-drd.livejournal.com

I should add that this theory is also called the Doomsday Argument *rofl*

From: [identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com

*whines*

But I want a bar chart.

I think people feel that there was less fic about because a vast majority the fic was THE SAME!

The general story strands were:
[x] Rose is emo
[x] The Doctor is emo
[x] Rose has the Doctor's time!baby in the alt!universe
[x] The Doctor finds a way to get back to Rose
[x] Rose finds a way to get back to the Doctor

Or a combination of the above. So since Doomsday there have been like five fics only retold many, many times.

From: [identity profile] drakyndra.livejournal.com

You forgot one: Rose meets the alt!Doctor.

So there's six storylines.

But apart from that, you are dead right.

From: [identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com

But I've only read one of those so far and it was actually quite good and the Doctor didn't fall madly in love with her straight away (and actually didn't like her all that much).

But yes, six storylines. I have a feeling it could be seven but I can't think of what the other one could be.
tencrush: (facepalm)

OMG IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! It was all a dream.

I thought they agreed it was like on Dallas? No, seriously, someone made a post about it
