I wonder, just how much of the crazy in the Doctor Who fandom would be avoided if people would actually come to terms with the fact that Rose isn't the exception, she's just the first example of the new rule?
Oh yeah. Just like the way Harry Potter fans in the future are going to be completely bewildered by all the shipwank (what with knowing how it all ends up...)
Since I remember hearing people whinge about David's "looking wrong" after the CiN special, I expect quite a few. Though I suspect the mods of certain comms might be planning to crack down on this sort of off-topicness.
Nah, just an idiot on the OG claiming the only reason Billie was in the credis was because she was already well known, and because she was "the link to a new generation of fans." Or something.
Which one could interpret as saying that Billie Piper was stunt casting, which is an amusing implication.
The idea was weird to me at first, when I read about the new companion (before I finished series 2) I was all "Wah, Rose is leaving??"
But now I'm kind of looking forward to it. I like the idea of someone new with new family and new issues etc, to inject new drama etc into the show. Looking forward to meeting Martha. :D
Oh yeah. I had a whole argument with someone a while back who kept saying that Martha would never be as "important" as Rose was. I was like do you have any idea how this show works at all? Sheesh.
It's a Rose vs other companions thing. Or, to be more accurate, a New Series companions vs old series companions thing, that the Rosefen percieve as a Rose vs other companions thing.
Basically, it used to be that companions got a perfunctuary backstory that feature in maybe their first story, or one or two others, and then was swiftly forgotten, that they weren't as important as the Doctor, that the Doctor/companion relationship was platonic (or at least sold as in advertising...), that the other companions were disposable, and easily forgotten, etcetera and so on.
And Rose, as we saw, wasn't. And people are saying "It's because Rose is special!" when really, it's because the production team has a different attitude to companions now - hence Martha, the next one, also getting family and being generally as important as Rose.
(Certain people have been saying that because Martha has a family she's a copy of Rose. Because only Rose is allowed to have a family. To which sane people go, Bitch please.)

But Rose is just as important as Martha. :) Anything more or less would be strange.
